Code Black
« on: January 13, 2017, 03:45:08 PM »
WARNING: You need a Code Black on the lanes! The Storm Code Black features a RAD4 core. This high torque, high differential core technology was very successful internationally so Storm is introducing it to the US through this high performance bowling ball. This core is paired with Storm's proven R2S Pearl Reactive coverstock and finished with a 1500 grit polish. This combination causes the ball to glide through the front part of the lane then create the unique breakpoint shape and backend reaction that Storm is known for.

Color: Black/Charcoal/Silver
Core: RAD4
Coverstock: R2S Pearl Reactive
Finish: 1500-grit Polished
RG: 2.50 (based on 15# ball)
Differential: 0.058 (based on 15# ball)
Recommended Lane Condition: Medium-Heavy Oil
Fragrance: Orange Chocolate

Code Black Review by Luke Rosdahl

The Code Black is a new entry to the Premier line and a new release stateside, but it was originally an overseas release in 2014.  The R2S coverstock is one of Storm's most popular and successful covers, and it's housing a super strong core.  Together, this ball feels to me like a supercharged Hyroad, very clean through the heads, but revs up well and delivers a very hard arc through the pocket.  For all you old school Storm fans though, this ball really reminds me of the original X-Factor.  It's extremely versatile, consistent, and controllable.  This is one of my favorite Storm releases over the last couple years, and that's saying something considering how great everything has been.  Definitely my first ball out of the bag for virtually anything.

After having a few months to throw the code black I am extremely impressed. With being a rev dominant bowler, it's often hard for me to throw asymmetric balls with strong covers during league. The code black with its weaker cover clears the fronts like nothing else, still revs up in the midlane, and produces a strong continuous backend motion. I've thrown mine in multiple houses on a few patterns and I'm very impressed. Huge winner here from storm! #StormNation

Orientation:  Right Handed
Rev Rate:  375 RPM
Speed:  16-17 MPH
PAP:  4 5/8 straight across

Location:  Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO
Pattern:  High Volume THS
Layout:  40, 5 7/8, 40

The Code Black is here!  This ball was release overseas several years ago, and since then I’ve wanted one really bad.  Let me tell you this ball doesn’t disappoint!  It gets down the lane very clean (same cover as the IQ Tour 30 and HyRoad Pearl) but it is still has a strong midlane roll due to the Asym core.  For Asymmetrical core lovers this ball is going to be your favorite.  Easy through the front and TONS of backend and continuation.

The Storm Code Black was an overseas release and it is now state side! One of my favorite balls was the IQ Tour pearl, well the Code Black has the same cover in the

R2S Pearl Reactive. Very Clean, but has a very strong core with a diff of 0.058. So you get strong midlane roll with the Asymmetrical core and huge backend motion.

I drilled mine 4 x 5 x 2.25. This is ball is a home run for Storm, great length and gives a ton of miss room to the right. The Code Black has been the popular ball in the Storm Matchmaker events that I have worked.

Right Handed
Ball weight:  15
Rev Rate:  400
Ball Speed:  17.3
Axis Tilt:  7
Axis Rotation:  45*
PAP:  3 3/4 horizontal, 7/8 up
Layout:  50 x 5 x 40

I wanted the Code Black to work on our high-volume house pattern.  It’s pretty amazing…

This one has plenty of length, but has no issue making the turn.  It flares a ton, so be careful with balance hole placement.

As the pattern breaks down, it is strong enough to allow you to move deeper into the puddle, with a hand position change.

I really like the motion I get from this ball.  It is long and sharp, but it’s not uncontrollable at the breakpoint.  On a normal league night, I can use this ball all night and never have to change balls.  Slight adjustments allow me to keep the ball in the pocket for the three game series.

The Code Black does not disappoint.  It is a great ball and should be a welcome addition to any arsenal.

My name is Doug Cutler and I am a Storm/Roto Grip Staffer and my ball review today is the Storm Code Black.  I am left handed and my ball speed is around 15.5-16.0.  I drilled my Code black with my Favorite drilling Pin Under the fingers, and the CG kicked to the left a little.  The surface I hit it with a used 3000 and man I love it. This Code Black is a Beast.  The Code Black is the Strongest Assym Storm has in their line and I think it is the strongest Assym on the market.  I have used this ball on multiple lanes conditions from Medium to Long patterns like Abby Road, and Rome, and Mexico City to your Typical House Shot and have done well on all of the conditions. I have shot 1- 300 and a 813 with this ball. The Code Black definitely creates angle down lane.  It will be best used on longer patterns, but can be used on medium patterns when you need more down lane motion. When I need something strong, but my Alpha Crux and Snap are to early, I use the Code Black.  Comparing it to the Snap Lock, the Code Black is cleaner and more angular down lane. What makes the Code Black special is that it doesn't give you the over/under reaction you can get from pearl bowling balls.  While it clears the front of the lane, it still picks up in the right spot and creates nice angle to go through the pins.  If you needing a strong angular ball in your bag, you need to get yourself a Code Black. I promise you will not be disappointed. #codeblack #stormnation #bowlupastorm

I've had a chance to drill two Code Black's one pin up and one pin down. Storm hit a homerun on this ball it's a great addition to there top line. This ball is cleaner in the fronts than the Snap Lock and more change of direction. My pin up allows me to play a part of the lane I can't normally get too. I can move way left when there's a big puddle and this ball can still make it back to the pocket. My pin down let's me stay more square to line and is much more controllable for me.
