The research lab at Storm has been busy and discovered a unique coverstock by combining two proven coverstocks into one. The coverstock on the Storm Dark Code is a combination of the R2S and NeX to create the ReX Pearl Reactive coverstock, also known as the "Reactor Extreme". This coverstock along with the RAD4 core provides the ideal amount of mid lane roll and backend reaction as well as awesome pin carry. This ball has something to offer any style of bowler.

What a surprise!! This is the first ball I have thrown in the Code series. I never know what to expect when I drill up a Asym ball, the Dark code really surprised me. It has the smooth ball motion that I really like very predictable, and man does it pick up down lane. This ball makes me look like I have a ton of rev rate which I don’t. I believe this is what gives this ball some crazy carry when it hits the pins. For the past several months the Zen Pearl has been the first ball out of my bag. When the Zen goes a little to long and will not quit finish out comes the Dark Code. I can move in a little and know this ball will come around the corner. It is very predictable reads the mid-lane very well and its crazy off the spot. The Dark Code a strong smooth Asym pearl good continuation. It allows me to play straighter and move in when needed. Oh my gosh; I am in love! Storm introducing the news asymmetrical pearl to hit the market, the Dark Code. The Dark Code features the same core as featured in the Code line, only wrapped with a Nex Pearl coverstock. This ball is unreal to say the least. In my personal opinion, this ball is the perfect compliment to the Rubicon UC2. I absolutely not the UC2, but when the UC2 is too clean to throw on the fresh or first transition, the Dark Code does the job and it has a very similar shape. The Dark Code can handle oil very well, better than any asymertrical pearl I have thrown in quite sometime, and I have matched up so well with this core.

Review:
The Storm Dark Code is another great addition to the Storm Line. We had a good number of people pre order this ball at our shop. If you had a Code Black you will see a similar roll just more of it. My customers who have rolled both report the Dark Code is an upgrade on the original.  The Dark Code provides a large amount of hook for a polished ball. I feel what helps this is the mixture of the R2S additive in the pearl cover. Some people are Leary to roll polished balls when the lanes are oily but the new polished balls I’m seeing from Storm are very strong. I have used this ball a lot at two houses toward the end of our summer leagues with great success. I would put it above my Axiom Pearl in total hook. It is as strong as my Parallax Effect but I prefer the shape the dark code gives me. If you are looking for a strong Pearl or a Code Black upgrade this should fit the bill!

Summary:
The Dark Code is an upgrade on the original Code Black.
The Dark Code rolls well on a variety of patterns and hits hard.
This ball has a lot of motion for a polished ball.

I actually yelled and did a happy dance when the Dark Code was announced.  I LOVE CODE BALLS., especially the Code Black.  My only gripe with the Code Black was that it was too clean sometimes.  The Dark Code solves that problem with the new REX cover.  The Dark Code reads the oil more than the Code Black and still backends plenty.  It’s what I wanted the Code X to be but wasn’t, a touch earlier and smoother to use when there wasn’t quite as much friction.

I have a pin down and pin up version of the Dark Code and both are pretty sick.  I shot 300 with my pin down Dark Code the 2nd week I had it and I love throwing my pin up Dark Code late in a block.  It seems like it’s too early to work later in a block, but it never quits hooking! 

TO SUM UP, if you loved the Code Black, get a Dark Code!  Drill it like your favorite Code Black and you’ll love it!

I drilled the DARK CODE up 75 x 5 x 30. I have touched up the surface with 2000 abr lightly. i wanted to get a long and strong reaction with this one.

The DARK CODE is the long/strong reaction that many are looking for. Compared to my UFO ALERT, the DARK CODE comes off the spot faster. The ALERT rolls thru it while the CODE jumps off the spot. Touching the surface with the 2000 pad made it more controllable. I also tried my RST-X2 in the same spot and the CODE is still stronger at the spot than the X2.

The DARK CODE gives me the impression that if you are looking for something to get left and send it right, this is the ball.

The Dark Code features a brand new REX or (Reactor Extreme) Pearl reactive coverstock with the RAD4 Asymmetric Core.  The Dark Code has a low RG of 2.50 a high differential of 0.058 and a low intermediate differential of 0.020.  To bring this all together, the REX coverstock is a combination of the popular NEX coverstock with R2S.  The NEX coverstock seen in the Axiom and Proton Physics and the R2S we have seen in the Astro Physics and IQ Emerald.  The Dark Code is going to give you a very smooth roll very clean through the midlane and save all its energy for the backend.  It will allow you to get left to right very easily.
The layout chosen was a 75 x 3 ¾ by 80 which will give the ball a medium entry angle to smooth out the wet/dry on a house shot that’s either seen right away on the fresh or in the transition games.   
I did a ball comparison to the 900 Global Zen, Storm Code Black and Strom Trend. 
First up is the 900 Global Zen, the Zen is the hottest ball on the market for Global right now and as you can see the Zen blends the midlane very well and reacts very strong off the spot for symmetric ball.  The Zen is 3 and 2 stronger than the Dark Code.
Next is the Code Black, the Code Black and Dark Code have the same numbers, same core but the Dark Code has a different coverstock additive.  The addition of the REX with R2S really shines here because you see how the Dark Code is stronger by 1 or 2 boards then the Code Black.  The big difference you will see is how much sooner the Dark Code reads the midlane verses the Code Black.
The last ball in the comparison portion of the video is the Storm Trend.  The Trend has the R2S coverstock as well with a symmetric core but the Trend rolls very similar to an asymmetric core on how it changes direction very quick with the Piston core with a corkscrew type motion.  The Dark Code is at least 2 boards stronger than the Trend.

In my bag, the Dark Code can be a first out the bag or at very close second to the RST X-1 when its starts to burn up and leave flat tens.  A ball down to the Dark Code could be a Trend or a Hustle PBR.

The Dark Code features the tried-and-true RAD4 Core found in all the previous Code releases, but this new Code is wrapped in the new Rex Pearl Reactive Coverstock.  The first time I threw this ball I could tell it was going to be something special.  For me, this is one of those balls that the more you throw it away from the pocket into the dry, the more the ball continues to hook.  The polished finish makes the Dark Code extremely clean through the front part of the lane but once it encounters friction it makes a very strong move to the pocket.  On a typical house shot this ball is a head turner because of its strong motion at the breakpoint and the way it continues through the pins.  The Dark Code sends messengers with the best of them.  I did encounter a heavy volume, 44 foot pattern that I just could not get the Dark Code to hook enough.  Again, because of the polished finish, the Dark Code just never read this particular pattern.  I also would not recommend the Dark Code on the shorter patterns as it could be hard to control off the spot.  Any typical house shot or medium pattern which has a good amount of friction to the right will allow the Dark Code to excel.
