El Niño X-It
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
The X-It features a combination of the proven El Niño 2000 Motion Control
weight block wrapped in an exclusive STORM PRO-Thane MT(tm) cover stock.
The PRO-Thane MT cover features ACCU-Tread(tm) reactive material combined
with a specific Thermo-Dynamic Response(tm) (TDR) particle load.  PRO-Thane
MT has less particle loading than the PRO-Thane XT (found on La Niña) and
more than PRO-Thane LT loads (found on El Niño 2000) for a truly dependable
reaction.  This weight block/cover stock combination produces reaction the
proper distance down the lane, not too early and not too late for an optimum
angle of entry.

The specifications are: Cover stock: PRO-Thane(tm) MT Particle; Factory
Finish: 800-grit matte; Color: Black/Raspberry; Hardness: 76-78 Rex D-scale;
Weight Block: Tri-Density Motion Control(tm); Radius of Gyration: 2.52
(Medium); Differential: .055 (High); Flare Potential: High (6" plus); Hook
Potential: 20+/18.5 (Dull/Shiny); Length: 4.5 on a scale of 1-10; Backend:
10 on a scale of 1-10; Recommended Lane Condition: Medium-Heavy to Heavy
Oil; Fragrance: Raspberry

I got this ball late last season.  I owned 2 of them for a while with 2 different drilling patterns.  I sold one to get an Apex Intensity.  I have since purchased the regular Apex Particle ball, but you can see what I think about those balls in my other reviews.  As far as the X-it goes, I can't say enough good things about this ball.  Smooth controllable hook.  Excellent hitting power.  I bowled my first 300 game with this ball.  This ball doesn't hook quite as hard as my Apex Particle ball.  This ball is a little more forgiving though.  I can tug this a little left and be OK.  It does a nice job of opening up the lane for me on heavy oil.  It doesn't roll out early when there isn't any carry down like the Apex.  I use the Apex Particle ball on heavy oil where there is a lot of carry down.  If the backends are screaming then I stay with the X-it.  it is quite versital.  I was slightly dissappointed that this ball doesn't seem to grab as well on synthetic lanes however.  Both the Apex's seem to do better there.  But you come to wood lanes with dry backends or short oil and this is a great ball.  Way to go storm, you've got a winner here.  I'll be sticking with storm equipment from now on.

15# pin 2-3" drilled reverse leverage
ball has alot of predictability on oil with a booming backend not what I had exspected with such a strong drilling.Carry is awesome, wish I had more oil so I could use it more.Great ball one of my favorites

drilled this one up 3 3/8 x 3 3/8 stacked leverage.. on my normal house shot this ball does great at its box finish(800 matte).. but it burns up its energy really fast.. so i polished it up as much as i could.. just threw it in the ball-polisher for a good 15 minutes.. after that it skidded through the heads and midlane and made a nice, smooth recovery.. had nice midlane reaction.. i use this ball when my Super Power Pearl becomes too much ball(its at a 600 grit finish).. ive threw the El Nino 2000 with a very similar drilling.. and it was rather strong.. and didnt burn up like my X-it did.. but still i prefer the X-it.. i rate this ball 8 outta 10

Well... when i first got this ball, i put a very small amount of revs on the ball so i really didnt see it doing too much, tho i was told it was a hook MONSTER. Well, now that i put ultra-cranker type revs on the ball, it really is a hook monster... hit wasnt best i have seen until i got it resurfaced... then it was awesome. Carried very light hits, kicked the corner pins, and hit so hard that i was left with 9-pins on the headpin shots. All round, a nice ball if you are looking for a big hook ball + awesome hitting power. Oily lane ball for sure. Only problem with it, is that becoz it is a particle ball it really needs to be kept in top condition or it is going to become fairly lazy + lose its awesome hitting power. Overall, i give this ball a 7.5 out of 10. Lefty 2K

This ball is supposed to be a huge hooking ball, and it is, if you have enough revs on it.  It's AMAZING in oil, the best ball in oil Storm has made, even better than the Trauma ER, I think.  It reacts directly to the amount of revs you put on it.  It has much more length than it says it does.  INCREDIBLY versatile.  Take some of the hand out of it, and you could run it off the gutter in virtually any condition.  I was extremely surprised with it.  It reacts nearly the same on dry as it does in heavy oil.  A deep inside line on dry will give you a smooth arcing backend and plenty of length if you're deep enough, and just move right for oil.  If nothing else can find even a board of backend on oily conditions, just slow this ball down a little, and you'll find backend.  Granted, heavy oil is difficult for anything to cut through, but this ball is your best bet in that respect.  I didn't do anything to the surface, just take it as is, it comes out of the box perfect.  Crankers will do better than strokers, but strokers will find this ball relieving on oilier conditions.  It flows right off your hand, and plays an inside line the best with the smooth arc to the backend that crushes the pins.  The carry is excellent, but it tends to leave soft ten pins occasionally if it comes off your hand with less revs.  Wonderful ball, in fact, I just talked myself into buying another one just writing this.  I'll order one tonight!

Started to throw this ball again lately and wanted to post another review on how good it is. Ball drilled I believe 3 3/8 x 3 3/8 (max hook if I am correct), with a small balance hole. Did a light sanding to it for a heavy oil flood (47 feet of heavy juice, outside 5 light oil). Was able to play up the pipe with this setup, ball set up by the breakpoint and made a hard, hard turn into the pocket. Shot high series with it this summer in a sport league, and once again threw this ball the last two weeks in my sport league. Carry was great if it hit the pocket, but it was tough with the shot. On a "normal wall" I usually throw the X-it about 4th arrow out to about 5-8 at the breakpoint. Ball retains enough energy to rip the rack non-stop. Bowled a tourney 3 weeks ago and when the outside dried up, I moved about 15 left, grabbed my X-it, and went the next 14 in a row (last 8, front 6) to put myself back into contention. Didnt make the cut though cause my spare shooting sucks, but thats a different story all together. Ball still has a spot in my bag and is always an option when my other equipment does not cut it on the shot. Still give it a 9 out of 10, very strong, hits hard, versatile when the lanes call for it.

Happy New Years Fellow ballreviewers,

I purchase this ball in used condition for a fellow ballreviewer Rick Stubbs.
Excellent gentleman to deal with and he's very professional with all the follow-ups leading to the final transaction.
Back to the review:
15-pounds with a 3 to 3 1/2 inch pin
Condition of coverstock
A-
I had this ball plugged (at my favoite proshop-Allstar Tamarac),and we'll drilled this ball with the pin just underneath my ring finger and the Cg is kicked out about 3 1/2 inch to my PAP.
Results:
I broke this ball in on New years day, this ball with proper oil in the heads area, will read the mid-lane and rolls nicely into the pocket.
Warning:
If there's light or no oil in the heads and the mid-lane area you need to put this ball away.
Once i got use to this ball, my last two games are as follows:
278 and 289 not bad.
I will up dated this review, once i put some tournament condition games under this ball belt.

I have had the X-it for at least 3 complete seasons and used it in several tournaments.. When the shot calls for this aggressive ball.. I bowl ABT in Salt Lake City and won our tournament this weekend with my X-it after just having the thumb hole plugged and redrilled..  Like having a new ball and it is just as awesome as it was when I first got it..  Shot 258, 190, 204 in qualifying..  253, 166, 258 in semi's and was the #1 seed and won it with my X-It with a 204..  Just enough..  The house we bowled in is much like where I bowled league for the first 2 years I had my X-It.. so I knew going in what I was capable of..  That 2nd game of semi's (166) found a pair that the X-It was too aggressive for.. Struggled all game and ended up with that damn 166 sandwiched between 2 250 games.  The X-It is still as strong as ever..  Best damn ball Storm ever made, if you ask me..  I tell everyone I know..  "Everybody should have an X-It"

BALL
15 lbs
2 inch pin, stacked over CG, 3 3/8" from PAP

BOWLER
Left-handed
Medium ball speed
Medium revs
Medium axis tilt

I've had this ball for about 3 years. Absolutely love it! I've had it in almost every surface condition, and loved each of them.
Currently, I've got it sanded to about 320 grit.
Bowled a tournament 2 weeks ago where they were real soupy. Pulled out the ol' X-It and proceeded to have the best "look" I had all weekend. Very smooth, predictable roll with plenty of punch at the pins.

After all the games I've put on it, it still hooks and still hits.
Definitely one of the all-time best from Storm!

Probably nobody will ever read this post considering the age of this ball, but I will put this up anyhow.

This is one of the best balls I have ever owned (and I've literally owned 100s). While my arsenal has changed countless times over the past 5+ years, one ballhas stayed in my lineup: the El Nino X-it.The cover gets the ball clean through the midlane.  When the midlane starts to breakdown and oil moves to the backend of the lane is when the X-IT is at its best. Strong enough to go around the carry down or through it without losing its hitting power.  Can play straight up the boards with minimum hand action, or with more rotation and a heavy hand.

I've had this ball dull, shinny and everything in between. With 200+ games on it, it is still one of my best hitting, predictable balls.  This ball has 5 300s, 3 299s and 10 279s.

If you have a 16lb X-it laying around, let me know and I'll take it off your hands.

What year is this????

Anyway, after a 5 yr layoff I am STILL using this ball.  Great for "wall shots", not so good for "sport shots".  Since it is "old" technology, it goes long but flips real well.

Mine is drilled with a pin 5.5 from PAP @ 75 degrees above fingers.  Great ball for inside walls that are broken down.  Nice crisp backend on the correct condition.  Still a "benchmark" for me.  Its on its 3rd resurfacing.

drilling - storm layout 3
weight - 15 lbs 2
age - 8 years old

I was given this ball by my pro after he used it for many years religiously. All I can say is that it kicks the s**t out of the reaction I got with my black widow !! Great ball by a great company !! would recommend to anyone as there are a few un-drilled ones still out there !!

Out of the box the El Nino X-it provides a strong arcing motion designed for heavy contions even on today's oil patterns. When taken to 4000 grit abralon or a polished finish the El Nino X-it saves more of its energy for the backend and still retains that strong arcing motion. I would recommend this ball be kept at a polished finish and it becomes a fantastic benchmark ball to allow you to find out the oil conditions quickly.
