WOW! That is the reaction after you throw your first shot with this ball. The motion and power this ball brings to the pocket is incredible. Wrapping the SPEC cover with the Shape-Lockâ„¢ HD Core brings much more movement than the Crux Prime. The ability to move left, swing the ball, and create this much room is remarkable. Lose focus and miss your mark to the right and this ball will find its way to the pocket no problem. Make sure to wipe your ball with a Storm Shammy after each shot to ensure a clean SPEC coverstock and this ball is an absolute MONSTER! Great for oily conditions and sport shots where you are trying to create some area. Great job Storm!

Over the last 10 years or so, we can all admit how good the "Gravity" series from Storm has been. The one that sticks out the most was the Virtual Gravity. Our best minds at Storm decided to use that famous Shape-Lock HD core and wrap the SPEC cover around it, to create the Gravity Evolve. It's been a nice addition to the line and my league / tournament bags.

I've drilled one Gravity Evolve so far and have had success with it. I drilled it with the following layout: 4.5 x 4 x 70. This puts the pin above my bridge and the mass bias next to my thumb. I also hit the surface with 1000 pad with my goal being to use this ball on heavier volume patterns. With a strong drilling and a good amount of surface, the Gravity Evolve has a perfect spot in my bag when I need something early, forward, and strong.

I've had success using the Gravity Evolve on a few different types of patterns. On shorter patterns, I've been able to throw it to the gutter and have it stand up / late the lane do all of the work down lane because the Evolve is so strong and forward. On the opposite side of the spectrum, when I've had to really gear down and throw it slow, the Evolve has read the lane perfectly when there's a good amount of oil on the lane.

I drilled my Gravity Evolve 50 x 5.5 x 20 which puts the pin above my bridge with a very slight MB kick right. I get a very Crux Prime type look with this ball. To me, the balls are similar in where they pick up on the lane, but a similarly drilled Prime doesn’t quite make the move on the backend that the Evolve does. It is almost like the Evolve has another gear just at the very last second. Compared to a Physix drilled the same, the Physix is noticeably longer with a lot faster response to friction. Simply put, Crux and Evolve are slow off the spot and the Physix is noticeably quicker when it sees friction.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either the Evolve, Prime, or Physix, but it really just depends if you need slower response to friction or if you want to see your ball bounce off the spot more.

I was one of the unlucky ones who did not get to enjoy in the original Virtual Gravity series, so you can imagine my excitement when I saw Storm’s announcement of the Gravity Evolve. The Shape-Lock HD core wrapped around the strong SPEC cover makes this ball a beast for any heavier or longer lane conditions. For me, the Gravity Evolve provides more downlane motion than the Crux Prime, but still in a very controllable manner. The 45 x 4 ½ x 65 layout puts the pin under my bridge and MB kicked out a fair amount. This is one of my go-to layouts and it did not disappoint on the Gravity Evolve. I very rarely have seen this ball overreact on me, which is great for a high end piece. This ball reads the lane consistently and I have had no issues moving further inside as our house shot begins to break down and still carrying corner pins. Overall, I feel Storm has knocked it out of the park with this release. It should be a staple at the top end of their lineup for quite some time.

The Gravity Evolve is the latest Premier line release and features the Shape Lock HD core from the famed Virtual Gravity, and the new SPEC coverstock that was on the Crux Prime. The result is a ball that feels like a blend between the original Virtual Gravity and the Virtual Gravity Nano, earlier and smoother than the OG, but a bit longer and stronger than the Nano. This is definitely the most shape we've seen out of the SPEC coverstock thus far, which is a strong, early, and smooth cover, but the aggression of the core helps create a nice balance of strength and control. Due to the shape differences, I don't see any overlap with the Crux Prime, but there may be some with the Halo. If you were a fan of the original VG or the VGN, the nostalgia is strong with this one, it will definitely take you back and remind you of those two.

The Gravity Evolve is the second asymmetric ball released by Storm featuring the Spec coverstock. As you may have guessed, the Evolve uses the same core from the ever popular Gravity Shift series from a few years back. The Virtual Gravity was one of the most successful balls in Storm's history so it makes sense to see a new version with such a unique cover like Spec coming to market. Using the tried and true Shape-Lock HD core combined with the hook and control of the Spec cover, gives bowlers a unique combination of board coverage with controlled shape.

I drilled two Evolves. The first Evolve has a layout of 3 X 5 X 1.5 which is mainly intended for use on flatter, tougher patterns. The second Evolve is drilled 4 X 3 X 2, and more intended to be used on medium to high scoring conditions early on while the pattern is still fresh. Using both balls with the box 2000 grit abralon finish, the second Evolve only covers a couple more boards than the 3" pin Evolve, but isn't dramatically different, especially once both balls lane shine. Getting into 1000 or even as low as 500 Abralon, the 4" pin Evolve creates a much more defined move at the breakpoint, as well as about an arrow more worth of board coverage. It is very interesting how close in board coverage the two balls are with less surface, and how much different they are with a lot of surface. It goes to show how important it is to get both the layout and surface correct for a bowling ball. Even at lower grits, the 3 X 5 X 1.5 Evolve has a controlled hard arch to the pocket. This is great for challenging conditions that I want a readable reaction throughout the lane. The 4 X 3 X 2 Evolve does as expected and opens up patterns that are easier and allows me to be less than perfect and still score.

The biggest take away I have with the Evolve as well as the Crux Prime, both balls using Spec cover, is that they aren't going to be big backend hockey stick shapes. The Spec cover creates traction with controlled shape for heavier volumes of oil. The Evolve isn't the typical strong response to friction at the end of the pattern like many of Storm's covers but is a reaction shape needed for hook with control.
