Hot Rod Hybrid
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
The Hot Rod™ HYBRID from STORM™ features their first Reactor™ hybrid (half pearl - half solid) reactive coverstock. This is a great ball for playing down and in and is very forgiving on a house shot. The new Reactor™ coverstock is polished to 1500-grit and is noticeably softer and more versatile than any other. The Hybrid core design is the same used in the Hot Rod™ Pro Stock and Pro Stock Pearl: Multi- Density with Power Mass Technology™. The core is symmetrical and really gives you a very predictable roll. This combination is a perfect match of coverstock and core! Get a jump on the competition and then bury ‘em!

16 lb pin below and between fingers
cg out slightly small weight hole on pap

This is my new dry lane ball.
It gets excellent length and rolls through the breakpoint no sharp turns with this one.It is also very hard hitting as are all of my storm balls.

This ball compliments my Warrior and Power Charge very well.I am able to go from the Warrior to the Charge then to the Hybrid as the heads start to burn up .This gives me an excellentrange of coverage for drier lanes.

16# 2.5" pin 2.7 top
Pin 5 ¾” from PAP – cg 4” from PAP with a hole 5” straight across
Sanded with multiple grits up to 2,000
Used 2 steps to polish the surface to 2,5000

First off, thanks to Ernest G, Technical Services Manager from Storm. He helped me out in obtaining the right shape down the lane with a surface adjustment. -WOW!- This is my 2nd Hybrid and maybe 2 times is the charm. I am not sure how useful this layout and surface adjustment would be for a hand-challenged bowler.

The ball flares about 2-3" and does not dead bounce left off the dry. The Hybrid showcases a continuous arc versus the “45x15” reaction power-players seem to make happen. That’s when the ball skids for 45 feet and then covers 15 boards the last 15 feet. Great addition for those times the back ends are clean or the wet/dry that every center has mastered laying out.

Great compliment to my 5x5 Fired Up, my big piece. If you are a power-player and don't have a FU, you are missing a GREAT piece.

15# 2.75-3" 3oz tp undrilled
Layout: Pin over ring finger, cg out 1.5-2" to the right, no marked MB.
This layout gives me a roughly 5" pin-pap.
Stats: speed 16mph+
Revs, about 300rpm+
PAP, dont know, but i track high.
Release, depending on lanes, 35-45degree or just behind the ball.

I wanted the ball to go long on med-light lanes, and to have a sharper backend motion, so i can move in depper. This ball goes longer than my XXX, and it has a strong arc when it turns. Stronger turn than my XXX, wich is smoother through the whole lane. The only lane condition i dont like to use the Hybrid on is when its light oiled. Its just to strong then.
I like to start with the XXX, play up a track and then take out the Hybrid. I can stand on the same mark, but i still get a completly different reaction.
This ball is sensetive on how you release it. A little slower ball speed and it takes off, to much side on the ball and it reacts to strong. For me this ball works best when i stay behind the ball with my hand and just let it roll off my hand, or when i have less side rotation than usuall.

Ive had my highest 3 seriers and 4 seriers with this ball, 639 and 843. And today i had a 7 in a row, finnishing up with 246. Note: i dont bowl on a THS.
After i bought this ball, 4 other people in my town have bought Hybrids.

I do not no drill pattern or pinplacent i do no that it is 15 pounds and the reason i bought this ball was for the dry lane patterns but the ball hooks to much on dry and not enough on oil and it leaves alot of ten pines

never give up

Just shot 300 with Hybrid tonight on a light oil pattern and no grab and still
hit very hard very happy with this ball. Tweener 15-17 mph Hooks a little less than my Jolt Pearl that as the ACCU cover stock. Same cover stock as my Ace.

I bought this ball used with low games, and drilled it up 4 x 3 pin-in-ring.

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i111/donsvo/hybridhotrod.jpg

The ball is one of my favorites so far on a house shot. I have the surface at 1500 with a hit of polish. If the line is there, I can stand 20, send it our over 10 at the arrows to 2 board, and it bounces back like money.

I used it on the Scorpion pattern with the same surface prep playing a tight outside swing (7 arrows to 3 downlane), but it was too over/under for my tastes. I moved deep inside playing 18 to 10 and then 18 to 8, but it burnt up too much and carry was mediocre. It was bagged after a game.

I had better results on the US Open pattern playing straight up 3, the carry was  impressive.

My likes about the ball are the recovery and the roll. It reads well in the midlane and responds strongly to the dry. However, this does make the ball touchy: if there are any over/under conditions... this ball might as well stay in my trunk.

It is most definitely my league shot ball.

Brunswick and Lane #1: there is no other. Well... maybe a few Storms... and a One. Did I mention Roto Grip yet?

dont like this ball. for my style the slightest mistake or wrong rev angle will cause the ball the completely react in the wrong way. i have it drilled pin under ring. ifits there its there, but other then that its everywhere else. most likely not a good choice for crankers, but i have seen it work wonders for strokers and tweekers
