BALL SPECS
Pin Length: 2 ½ “
Starting Top Weight: 2.58oz
Ball Weight: 16.1

DRILL PATTERN
5 x 5 x 3 ½ “ (pin to PAP, CG to PAP, pin buffer)

WARNING: This ball is pure butter!

The core was born light years ago in a great mind and has survived the test of time. A great core is not worth a darn without the cover that contacts the lane. Storm paired the R2S pearl cover with the inverted Fe² weight block so that your favorite layouts in your previous Road series balls will be just as good in the Hy-Road Pearl.

Yes, this ball is clean through the heads thanks to the cover and the core yells, “MOVE! GET OUT THE WAY!!!” This ball has that pop off of the spot that we all love. Not only does this ball come back with a vengeance but it offers the versatile to handle the house shot and tournament conditions. I’ve tossed this ball on Kegel’s Beaten Path, a 42’ house shot and the PBA Scorpion with nothing but a reaction that I can read. This nugget is a touch cleaner than the Victory Road™ Pearl but if you want the Hy-Road Pearl to not clear the fronts so fast than you can drill it stronger or take your favorite layout and hit the ball with a touch of surface.

This continues to be a favorite at the Storm MatchMakers.

I am going to start out this review by saying the Hy-Road Pearl looks better in other bowler’s hands then in my own. I do think it is important to understand that I have really don’t like many pearl balls at all.  I have had a lot of success with the Fringe, and Lights Out, the IQ Tour Pearl even made my tournament bag. For the most part I have the most success with Solid balls. Please refer to my reviews of the Marvel S and the IQ tour to see how I feel about them.

One of the reasons I tend not to write my reviews near the release date is I like to get a chance to see how balls roll for other people besides myself. I like to get feedback from other bowlers also.  I know in the past I haven’t had success with some pearl balls that other people loved. So I try to balance my feelings toward a ball with how much success others are having with it.

I am going to give the Hy-Road Pearl a medium rating even though I struggled with it because the ball has looked awesome in a number of others bowlers hands. Just this past Sunday, I watched a bowler in NEBA go from out of the cut to leading the Squad in one game once he switched to his HY-Road Pearl.   He even suggested I bring mine the next day. I have also seen the ball look great in a number of other bowler’s hands. Those bowlers told me they really love the ball. Please take that for what it is worth.

I have drilled most of my pearls pin up, and I am going to start experimenting with some pin down layouts on pearls. I am going to plug and redrill my Hy-Road Pearl with the hopes that a different layout will make mine roll as good as the others out there. We will see what happens.

I did like the ball on the day I shot the video, but I just haven’t had the immediate success with it the few times I tried it in league or tournaments. The ball squirted too much for me, which surprised me after seeing and hearing others talk about the ball.

I guess the point I am making here is don’t count out this ball because of my review.  Read other reviews and watch other bowlers before making a decision on the HY-Road Pearl. I have a pretty big suspicion I am in the minority here when it comes to this ball.

Hyroad Pearl Review

Benjamin Goede (Storm/Rotogrip Amateur Staffer)
Ball Weight: 14LBS
PAP: 4 inches over X 1/2 up
Layout: Pin Above Bridge, CG swung out 2 inches, Balance Hole on PAP (VAL)

I have used this ball on several different patterns over the course of the last few months.  It may be one of the most versatile balls STORM has ever produced! I was excited when the announced they were releasing this ball because two of my favorite all time bowling balls are the T-Road Pearl and Victory Road Pearl.  It reminds me a lot of the T-Road Pearl just made for todays thicker oils.  I still have my Victory Road and they compliment each other all to well.  The Hyroad pearl is stronger and a little earlier of the spot and what impresses me most is how clean and easy it reads the whole lane and never seems to want to read to strong to early!!  You can play all parts of the lane with this ball on most medium to medium dry lane conditions.  Another unbelievable ball from Storm!

I picked up a HR pearl last week.  I currently have a Lucid and IQ pearl.  I usually start the night with the Lucid and use it until the heads are burnt. Then I will switch to the IQ pearl.  Some nights on my Monday night league, I forget the name of the pattern but not a THS, the lanes become completely burnt and I can't control the IQ.  I believe it is called "The Beating Path".  I wanted a ball to go to when that happens.  My pro shop told me to get the HR pearl.  The HR pearl is NOT what I was looking for!  It clears the burnt heads slightly better than the IQ and goes slightly longer but it is stronger in the back end.  Which is not at all what I was looking for.  It is so strong for me that I honestly don't know when I would ever use it.  I already scuffed it with 4000 then 3000 and punched a small hole in the side but it is still uncontrollable in the back end. I might throw a few good shots with it and then the next shot it just turns left way too hard and leaves me a mess.

Edit:I am editing this review because I now realize this section is for reviews not to discuss the ball.  I started a thread in the forum section instead.

The Hyroad pearl is a very strong back end ball.  For me it is a true skid snap type reaction.  It covers more boards in the back end than any ball I have ever owned.  It gets through the heads easily and stores a lot of energy.  If that is the type of reaction you are looking for then you will love the Hyroad pearl.

In comparison to the Iq pearl the Hyroad pearl goes slightly longer and is stronger in the back end.  Much stronger for me.  My Iq pearl is @8 months old and the Hyroad pearl is brand new so that may have something to do with it as well.  Most balls will calm down a lot after 20 games or so.

Drilled up a HyRoad Pearl with pin above ring finger and CG kicked out a little bit. The reaction I got on the lanes were amazing on various house shots in my area. With its pearl cover, it goes a little longer than the HyRoad and enters into the pocket with more angle just as Storm advertises it. I got a chance to use it on a 2009 USBC Junior Gold pattern and I felt like this ball was very predictable despite its big backend.

I would give this ball a lot of credit in bumping my average by around 8 pins as I was able to have excellent carry with the added entry angle (compared to the rest of my equipment). I don't have the strongest hand and I have medium revs, but I was comfortable playing the deep inside with this ball. Very satisfied with this ball.

I originally bought this ball because I wanted a ball that would hook really late for when the oil would break down and I could have a ball that I could throw that would hook perfectly at the break point. However I haven’t really been able to have success with this ball and usually use it when I need to throw a ball really hard and really straight.
