Hy-Road Nano

The Original Hy-Road was introduced in 2008 and bowling hasn't been the same since. Now Storm is introducing the Hy-Road Nano. This bowling ball takes the same Inverted Fe2 Technology core found in the other Hy-Road balls and pairs it with NRG nanotechnology Solid Reactive coverstock that was introduced with the Virtual Gravity Nano. This cover increases oil traction helping to control the midlane. The core in this ball has less material allowing the ball to have a thicker shell which produces more energy that transfers to the pins and allows less deflection. The Hy-Road Nano continues the tradition of more power and control due to enhanced dynamics.

The Storm Hy-Road Nano has the familiar Hy-Road engine but in this version, we have the NRG solid reactive cover used on the Virtual Gravity Nano. Unlike most, I never found the original Hy-Road to match up real well for me. I decided to go with a 50 x 5 x 60 layout on the Nano which puts the pin under my middle finger. It comes at 2000 grit out of the box. I first threw this ball at a higher friction house with synthetic lanes on a typical house pattern. I was floored with how well it cleared the fronts and maintained such a defined, controlled breakpoint. Within the first couple shots, I knew this was going to be a GREAT ball. To date, I have thrown the Nano on a variety of house patterns ranging from 40 to 46 ft in length. It has impressed me in every situation. One thing I liked about the original Hy-Road was the shape at the backend, but many times it was too much for dry conditions, but not enough for tighter conditions. I see that aggressive, yet controllable backend shape I love, but I personally get more use out of the Nano since my speed seems to dominate my rev rate most of the time.  I worked a rather large Matchmaker recently and to no surprise, this was a favorite amongst the participants as it matched up extremely well for a variety of styles.

The Hyroad Nano is the new kid in the family and the crew at Storm are proud of their bouncing baby boy!!! This ball is STRONG….like, it makes me look like I can hook it strong. I went to my “pin up on everything because that’s how I like it” layout and I was flat out impressed. The day I tested mine, I was shooting four different bowling balls and had a pretty good feel that day. The Nano was the last ball I decided to roll, in fact, I wasn’t too sure if I should shoot it that day…I’m getting old, so I was tired…haha. Just watching this ball roll down the lane after my first shot got my blood pumping again. I continued to bowl with it for almost an hour longer and it was hard to put it down. I’m a bit of a low tilt guy with some forward roll and it is tough for me to get left and bounce it, that is before this thing. I got my feet to about 28 and the Nano had no problem arcing back from five, smashing the rack and then rolling back out of the ball return grinning like, “I got you bro!” Honestly, that’s how it happened….I’m very excited about this ball and it will be in my bag for awhile to come, not to mention, we can’t keep them on the shelf in the shop. Go now, buy it, drill it and #bowlupastorm

As a fan of the Marvel-S and iQ Nano, I was excited to get my hands on the HyRoad Nano.

So far I have been disappointed.  The hi-rg core with the massive cover makes for a ball the goes sideways for me.  I have 400 rpm, 20’ tilt and get around the side of the ball. Perhaps more surface will simmer it down.... but if smooth reaction is what you are looking for, this ain’t it.

The Hy-Road Nano uses the NRG solid reactive cover stock with the inverted FE2 weight block. I drilled mine 65x4.5x60.

I first used the Hy-Road Nano on the Viper sport pattern with medium volume of oil. The ball motion was very easy to control. Using different speeds and releases, the ball allowed me to attack the lane from different angles. On this pattern I felt the box 2000 finish was best.

I next used the ball on the THS. On this condition the 2000 grit surface forced me further inside. My carry was not as good as I moved inside and opened up my angles. I made a surface adjustment by adding some Storm reactive polish. This made a big difference in my ball motion. Now the ball used less energy in the front half of the lane and I had more continuation going through the pins.

I would recommend this ball to anyone looking for a benchmark ball motion. The ball is very versatile and hits great. Thank you Storm for another great piece.

This ball yells the original Hy Road core with an RG of 2.57 and a Diff of 0.046 but futures NRG Solid cover that comes 2000 grit out of the box. I drilled mine 5x5x2 with no extra-hole. My first thoughts when throwing this ball was despite the dull Nano cover, this ball is still clean throughout the front part of the lane with a strong motion in the back part of the lane like the original Hy Road. Medium length patterns with tighter backends or those longer patterns after a few games will match up the best with this stronger cover stock. Lower rev bowlers will also like the stronger cover to use on a variety of conditions. This is another great addition to the Hy Road line for when the original Hy Road isn’t strong enough

Who hasn’t drilled a Hy-Road?  In the nine-or-so years it’s been around, it’s been seen on television multiple times and all types of bowlers have enjoyed the success they’ve seen with such an all around great ball.  The Hy-Road Nano gives players the historic Hy-Road core with the N-R-G solid coverstock.  It’s been an extremely successful combination and I’ve been able to use it on multiple patterns. 

I’ve drilled two so far and really like what both of them give me.  The first one is mapped out as 4 x 4 at a surface of 3000.  This gives me a very clean and predictable response time.  I find this to be a ‘pattern finder’ ball if you will.  After a few shots with this Hy-Road Nano, I can quickly figure out if I need something stronger or weaker to attack the pattern.  I’d categorize this as the most predictable ball motion in my bag.

The second one is mapped out as 5 x 3 with a 57/64 hole on my axis.  The surface on this one is around 2000 and I’ve used this Hy-Road Nano to open up the lane a lot more.  I’ve been able to use this one later in blocks when the pattern has broken down and I need to create more angle in the front of the lane. 

I think you can drill the Hy-Road Nano multiple ways and have a lot of success on multiple patterns with it. 

Go drill a couple!

I'm 61 years old.  I drilled the storm Hy-road Nano 50x43/4x35 pin up. This is a great ball for oil. I don't have a lot of hand so I play straight up the outside. My ball speed is about 15-16.  This ball is great to start with when the lanes have a fresh oil.  Our house shot is 42 ft. when they start to break down and then I go to the phase 2 to roll the same line.  The Hy-road Nano ball is strong and smooth with a continuation off the friction to the pocket and has a lot of pin action. I shot 720 out on the box with the box finish of 2000.  Other bowlers keeping asking which ball I am using who they can order one as well.  One of my teammates ordered it and loved it (he is a full roller).

The Hyroad Nano to me was the perfect addition to the Hyroad family. The Inverted Fe2 core I have always been a fan of, and throwing the NRG cover on top of it made it an even BIGGER monster. I drilled mine with my very common 60x4 1/8x30 layout which is my A pin up layout. I have had success wiith previous releases that had the Nano technology cover and I have hit every one with 2000 and reacta shine to mellow/smoothen out the overall reaction. This ball is no different, and can be used on multiple lane conditions from multiple angles......... Another must have Thunder Line ball from Storm. Get your Hyroad Nano today!

I laid out my Storm Hy-Road Nano with a 2.5x4x6. My goal was to get a higher friction surface matched up with an arching, controlled symmetrical core placement. I wanted a ball I could square up with on heavier patterns, but wouldn’t spark early or go 60 feet.
I was extremely pleased with the results I saw even on a medium volume house pattern. Like you would expect out of a symmetrical core, the shape of the ball path was very round and very dependable. Even playing the dryer part of the lane, the ball still held energy as it hit the pocket.
The Nano surface continues to be a dynamic surface that tracks well on the fresh and evens out a chopped up pattern.

If you have a HyRoad you need a HyRoad Nano!  This ball is the absolute picture when it comes to a benchmark ball.  With the 2000-Abralon surface and the NANO cover technology, this ball gets through the heads of the lane so clean and retains energy for down lane!  On a THS I can play straighter angles or open up the lane from the start.  I typically start with my feet around 13/14 and target 13-14 out to 7-9 board.  This ball gives me good miss room, and a great read of the pattern.  I can move in as the games progress, without sacrificing the pocket and minimal changes to carry.  This ball is a great tool to even out any over/under or apparent cliff in a pattern.

I generally see this great addition to my bag as blending out the over/under in a pattern and definitely can see a shape difference when comparing this to my original HyRoad.  While my HyRoad Nano reads the lane slightly sooner than my Hyroad, it has a crisp and clean movement off the friction which can open up the lane.

My HyRoad Nano Layout: VLS (Approximate): 3.5X5X2 Dual Angle: 55x3.5x35

Ball Speed: 17mph

Tilt: 10 Degrees

Axis Rotation: 30 Degrees

Rev Rate: 380-400 RPM
