Marvel Pearl
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
COLOR: Silver/Deep Purple/Maroon All colors do vary somewhat from the picture shown.
COVERSTOCK: R2X Pearl Reactive
CORE: Centripetal
FACTORY FINISH: 1500-grit Polish
FRAGRANCE:Aromatherapy - Score
RECOMMENED LANE CONDITION: Medium-Heavy Oil
RG: 16#-2.48, 15#-2.48, 14#-2.53, 13#-2.59, 12#-2.65
DIFFERENTIAL: 16#-.052, 15#-.050, 14#-.049, 13#-.045, 12#-.035
- A few tiny pit holes in the cover stock of the ball are normal
DESCRIPTION: Looking to expand the Master Line with additional performance options, Storm's product development team determined that, with the successes and feedback from bowlers around the globe, the series needed to expand with a new coverstock option. A highly polished pearl blend made the most sense being that Storm was looking to create a stronger move to the pocket. The Prodigy's pearl R2X material included enhanced traction mica (ETM) and a 4000-grit Abralon texture to help control the midlane with reading as early as the 2000-grit solid Marvel. So, taking the ETM out of shell and reducing the surface roughness with a 1500-grit polish, created more of a skid-flip reaction that bowlers love. Throw the Marvel Pearl out to the dry and watch it marvelously recover every time! Remember that it's the weight block/core that determines the roll pattern due to its migration path, and the Centripetal core's unique shape will power this new Marvel Pearl as well. The beauty of this shape is that it's easy to drill and produces a very predictable motion that really packs a punch.

Wow! The Marvel Pearl is Awesome! I drilled mine with the pin down below the ring with the cg kicked out and a hole in the P3 ( a small one). With this drill pattern it allows the ball to see a bit more of the front and mid lane but still give me that down lane reaction I want to see. Man does the Marvel Pearl terrorize the pocket! This one will come in handy. This ball definatly compliments the Marvel.

COMMENTS

Likes: originally had long (6+") high pin  CG mid grip drill, went way too long and way too snappy
redrilled to 4 x 3 with 4" pin (down) looked like totally different ball, easy to read arc, keeps pins very low for great carry

Dislikes: was very, very speed sensitive (old drill) now still speed sensitive, but much less so, even with surface sand (3000). This is the price to pay though for clean front reaction, but it is still a little iffy on high differential condition (heavy inside, dryer outside) as it will over read the dry, and completely plastic ball the heavy until some speed is scrubbed off (regardless of revs). Have yet to use on sport/ PBA condition, will repost after the 2012 Senior US Open.

This year I bought a Marvel Pearl. My bowling style is a cranker, so I got the ball drilled pin up. When I first got it I was hoping for a ball that could go really long and have a decent backend, but what I got was that and then some. The way this pearl ball reads the lane and finishes is unlike any ball I've ever had in my arsenal. Hitting anywhere around the pocket causes chaos to the pins and definitely saves my frame in the case of a bad shot. After having it for the entire season I am pleased to say it is my go to ball.

The first thing I noticed with this ball, is that it does not get the length that I expected out of a STORM pearl bowling ball. Mine hooks a surprising 2-3 ft. sooner than my Nano Pearl does, but it's reaction is significantly more mellow on the backend and still carries well. When my VG Nano pearl starts to become to angular as I am moving left, this balls slightly earlier and much more mellow reaction will normally a better entry angle into the pocket, and the two balls have been a very good 1-2 punch for me the last few months. For teammates of mine who have a higher rev-rate, this ball just tears through the backend and carries with tremendous consistency. The two different experiences make me think this ball is extremely versatile, and explains quite well how this was one of the best bowling balls of 2011.

Likes:responding since using in SrUS Open and PBA experience league. now drilled pin down, PSA out 45 degrees, low balabce hole ( very high track, tracks over fingers and close to thumb (oops) ) polished just too skiddy in oil. Light sanding makes it strong and predictacle- to a degree, still can be skiddy with too much speed, but carry and control are a real plus, NG on long heavy patterns, but medium, great!

Marvel Pearl: I purchased this bad boy with the Marvel S. It smells quite nice, and the pins scream for mercy just as loudly. The ball has a red, blue, and purple pearlized coverstock which accounts for its more gradual hook into the pocket. There is less of a sharp backend as there is with the Marvel S. Nevertheless this is a ball worth buying.  PBA bowler Pete Weber used it. He's one of the best, he knows what he's doing. -William Russotto

Check out our full review at:
http://tamerbowling.com/storm-marvel-pearl-bowling-ball-review-2/

This is our second review but if you can get your hands on one in the limited release, it would be worth it.

Excerpt:
Ultimately, what worked and made the the Marvel Pearl amazing on the sport shot made it a little trickier to use on house shot. Once you become cognizant of that and understand the ball reaction, you can easily figure out what will work to take advantage of the Marvel Pearl shape. I wanted to start with the sport shot to really demonstrate how great of a matchup this legend is on tough shots. Additionally, if you bowl on house shots where there are Pro Anvilane or other super clean surface up front with strong backends, this ball will be a monster.

There is probably nothing new that we can say about the Marvel Pearl, one of the most popular balls Storm has ever produced... That is why Storm decided to bring back this ball and they definitely did the right thing. This ball truly delivers.

For me the Marvel Pearl is one of those balls that you always need in your bag. It is a pearl, but it is not snappy or clean or angular as most of the pearlized balls that are in the market today. The Marvel Pearl has a strong midlane read and a strong, but controllable backend motion.

The Marvel Pearl is what I call a house shot killer. It blends the pattern quite nicely, is not too jumpy when it hits the friction and is not too clean to miss the breakpoint in case you miss inside your mark.

I was able to play in my comfort zone with the Marvel Pearl throughout the whole session. I started laying out the ball around second arrow and having the 5th board as my breakpoint. The Marvel Pearl provided me a smooth, predictable shape with a strong and continuous downlane motion. I was able to play up the boards with it or moving in quite a bit and the ball provided me the same motion shot after shot. I had a hard time missing the pocket with this ball, even on my bad shots, I still had great carry with it.

The Marvel Pearl is smooth and predictable as a solid but it also has a strong backend motion as pearlized ball. It gives you a great balance of both worlds.

On sport shot patterns, this ball is also a valuable weapon when your stronger ball produces too much friction and you need something a tad cleaner with more shape down the lane without being too angular.

The Marvel Pearl offers a lot of control on these conditions while it is also clean through the fronts and keeps the same strong but controlled backend motion.

This ball will be a great option on everything but the extremes. On patterns with a higher volume of oil the Marvel Pearl might be not enough ball, unless you are a rev dominant bowler. On lower volumes patterns or drier conditions, the Marvel Pearl might be a tad stronger and can be difficult to control at times, but on most medium oil conditions, the Marvel Pearl will be a great option.

Overall, the Marvel Pearl is a versatile ball that will fit into a lot of different bowling styles. This is one of those balls that will be helpful in a variety of different conditions and a ball that will always find a spot in your bag. Storm did the right thing bringing the Marvel Pearl back.

Thank you for watching!

Anybody that doesn't already have this ball needs to hurry and get one before they disappear again.  This ball is something special.  Never had a pearl (and I own more than dozen) that reads the mid lane like this ball does.  It acts more like a hybrid than it does a pearl.  Its just the kind of ball that you pull out of your bag and rarely think twice about if you should have another ball in your hand especially on house shot.  Incredibly versatile, predictable (and doesn't eat up the shot) and the kind of ball you will be grateful for fitting into your arsenal regardless of what pieces you already have.  A hall of fame legend proven by the test of time.
