Parallax Effect
« on: March 04, 2021, 10:58:18 AM »
Every aspect of the Storm Parallax Effect supports the dynamic performance of this high-performance bowling ball. This ball introduces the Pearl version of the TractionX7 coverstock. The TractionX7 combines all of the best features found in Storm's seven most popular coverstocks to date. This coverstock offers durability, backend, slower oil absorption as well as versatility. This dynamic core surrounds the Aeroflo Core. This core features an ellipsed hole that is filled with lighter core material which creates a higher RG than usually found in asymmetric bowling balls. A flip block at the bottom of the core creates a high total differential. This ball offers a little more length, backend, and entry angle than its predecessor but a little less mid-lane reaction when on heavy oil.

Color: Tangerine/Midnight/Turquoise

The Parallax Effect features Traction X7 Pearl and the asymmetric Aeroflo core, and is basically a pearl version of the Parallax.  However, that’s where the similarities end for me.  While the original was very strong but very smooth, the Effect uses that same strength as shape.  The coverstock is extremely strong, even polished, and this allows the Effect to both dig hard through the soup and make a big move when it hits the end of the pattern.  The Aeroflo core isn’t necessarily super torquey, but it’s continuous and relentless, it keeps the ball motoring and going strong.  For those that didn’t get along with the Parallax, you don’t have to worry about this one, it’s quite a bit different, but if you DID like the Parallax and are wanting something with more shape, this will be what you want.  The Effect reminds me a lot of the original Intense from a couple years ago, it’s strong and chuggy but still manages a bunch of shape down lane.  I gave the Effect a 8 for hook, 5 for length, and an 8 for backend strength.  In the current lineup, it’s closest to the Incite in hook, the Parallax in length, and the Idol Synergy in backend strength.

I drilled up an PARALLAX EFFECT with one of my favorite drillings for big pearl assyms and that is 50 x 4.5 x 35. I threw it mainly box finish with a lite glazing over with a 3000 pad.

I was not a big fan of the original PARALLAX. It set rolled forward very quickly for me and if I tried to use it on longer patterns, it didn't make the corner. Just not a good look for me when other great Storm/Roto releases were sitting there in the bag. The EFFECT is a totally different look for me. More motion at the end like a typical Utah pearl. When my RUBICON or PROTON start to stand up and stop, the EFFECT just kicks in to high gear to compliment them.

Orientation:  Right Handed
Rev Rate:  400 RPM
Speed:  16-17 MPH
PAP:  4 ½ over and ½ up

Location:  Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO
Pattern:  High Volume THS
VLS Layout:  5 x 4 x 2 1/2
Dual Angle Layout:  50 x 5 x 40

I didn’t like the OG Parallax.  The Parallax Effect is much better.  For me the OG either wanted to hook when I wanted to go straight or flat 10 when I wanted to hook it.  The Effect is clean enough to solve both of those problems.  It will let me get straighter and it bags pretty hard off the dry.  If you thought the Parallax was almost amazing, the Effect is the ball for you!

The new Storm Parallax Effect is the pearl version of the Parallax. This ball features the Aeroflo Core wrapped in TractionX7 Pearl reactive cover. This ball will be good on a typical house shot or when you need a bigger pearl ball in a tournament. It reminds me of a Hyper Cell Skid and a No Rules Pearl with the motion I see out of it. I can see myself having this ball in my 6 ball arsenal because it bridges the gap between my asymmetrical solids and stronger symmetrical solids. Be sure to get yours today!

Cover: Traction X7 Pearl
1500 Polished
Core: Aeroflo
RG: 2.52
Dif:0.05
PSA: 0.019
PAP: 5 ¾” x 1” UP
Style: Stroker, more Speed Dominate

It took me a while to see if I was going to like the new Parallax Effect. Again, as I have said in serval reviews, I have a hard time matching up with asymmetrical balls. I have now practiced with this ball and rolled it with some other pearl balls that I have in my bag and this one is a keeper. I drilled this with my normal layout 55 x 4 x 30 (4 x 5 ½ x 1 close to those numbers) which puts the pin kicked out t to the right of my ring finger and the PSA about 1-2 inches away from my thumb. I really like how smooth this ball is and it is a bit cleaner down lane without being too sharp of the spot yet picks up well and has good continuation through the pins. This is a stronger pearl where I can move in which is good. I can create some shape when a few of my other pearl balls will not get around the conner or will burn up. I only have one other pearl asymmetrical ball right now which is a lot cleaner down lane. I like that the parallax effect is a bit earlier and smoother without losing energy. I took a little while and some practice but this one is a keeper for me!

LANE CONDITION

Length: 42'

Volume: 20mls

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS

The Storm Parallax Effect is the pearl cover in the growing Parallax family. The TractionX7 combines qualities from some of Storm’s best covers into one new aggressive and durable cover.

I went with my a 45x4.25x35 layout. I felt like my original Parallax, though smooth, was still a bit more sideways than I hoped for. So, to allow the pearl cover of the Parallax Effect to go a little more forward, I opted for a slightly heavier rolling layout.

The bottom line is I have an asymmetrical ball I’m able to stay a little further right with and not have to worry about it sparking off the friction. I find asymmetrical pearls tend to give me an over/under reaction on a house shot and I generally end up putting them back in the bag within the first game. Based on my initial read of the ball, I believe the Parallax Effect will allow me to control the pattern and still get that strong asymmetrical striking power we all love.

LANE CONDITION

Volume:24

The Parallax Effect takes the same Aeroflo asymmetric core found in the original Parallax and wraps it in the new pearl version of the Traction X7 coverstock.  This ball does not disappoint when it comes to backend motion.  But there is much more to this ball.  With the pearl cover it is no surprise that this ball clears the heads so well, but the traction in the midlane and on the backend is very impressive.  Don’t let the pearl coverstock fool you, this ball needs and thrives on oily conditions.  This ball allows you to move in to the puddle in the middle of your typical house shot and throw it to the right and watch it do its thing as it roars back to the pocket.  This ball is a must for tournament players on tighter conditions when you need to create some down lane motion.

LANE CONDITION

Length: 43 ft

Volume: 26 ml

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS on well maintained wood surface

COMMENTS

Likes: This ball is a great addition to the bowler's arsenal who needs a powerful asymmetrical ball that gets through the front and mid lanes cleanly. Further, the aeroflo core allows the ball to get down the lane further, accentuating the RG. The result is this ball stores energy and then makes a very aggressive turn towards the pocket. Mine is laid out with using the Storm buffer system at 4.5 x 4 x 1 7/8. This is an aggressive layout and creates almost maximum flare. On THS I find this ball to recover well from outside misses, and it offers forgiveness on the inside due to the pearlized coverstock.

Dislikes: I haven't found any yet. :)

Parallax Effect
While they share a core, the Parallax and the Parallax Effect could not be more different! This new TX7 cover on the Parallax Effect makes all the difference. The original Parallax was very heavy rolling and was great for what there was a good amount of oil in the front part of the lane, but when it was time to move in or when the fronts started to dry up it lost its magic. That’s where the Parallax Effect shines!

I drilled my Parallax Effect 50x4.5x30. I instantly knew this ball was a totally different beast from the original. The Effect goes through the front part of the lane so much easier, but still maintains is “stickiness” that I would expect out of that type of cover. I think the Parallax Effect fits very well in between the Parallax and the Axiom Pearl.

Parallax Effect - Ball Specs
Cover Stock: TractionX7 Peral Reactive
Finish: 1500 Grit Polished
Core: Aeroflo Core
Layout: 60 x 5 x 40
RG: 2.52
Differential: 0.054
Intermediate Diff: .019

Review
The Parallax Effect features the asymmetric Aeroflo Core with ellipsed hole providing an RG of 2.52 (15lbs) and the flip block creating high diff of 0.054 meaning the ball is clean through the front of the lanes with a very strong reaction on the backend. As mid to low rev player I struggle with ball reaction when the lanes breakdown and I’m forced to move left of the 25 board. I tested this ball on 44 feet typical house pattern with a lot of down lane transition. I was able to stand right of center and swing the ball to the five board and stand left of the 25 board while rolling the Parallax Effect to the 10 board without losing any ball performance and carrying power. This ball will be in my bag for league and tournaments especially when there is down lane transition. This is a great ball for all levels of bowlers. Order one from your local pro shop today! Storm Parallax Effect

Weight Block: Aerofloâ„¢ Core (Asymmetrical)
Color: Tangerine/Midnight/Turquoise

Review:
Strong pearl covers are a must for players with multiple pieces of equipment. Fitting in between the Parallax and my Axiom, this ball gets through the fronts much smoother, yet still continues through the pins like you would expect. This ball really stands out on the shelf in our shop and it is hard to find something negative to say about it. At a recent demo we held it was by far the most popular ball people wanted to try, and we sold a lot of them! If you are looking to create more down lane motion then this is the ball for you.

Storm Parallax Effect:
Cover: TractionX7 Pearl Reactive
Core: Aerflo core
Finish: 1500 grit Polished
Layout: 60 x 6 x 60

What Did I See: Know that I experienced a TON of over/under with the first Parallax, I consulted with Bret Stabley @ Bowlers' Supply and we decided on a 6 inch P2P with a weaker angle for the backend to combat that. Upon suing on lanes that were bowled on most of the ball, the Parallax Effect was super good, and roll very similar to my Axiom Pearl with a 5 inch P2P. What the main difference I saw was the overall length off the end of the pattern, where the Parallax would either hook quickly, or skate all the way to the pins and the motion was a tad later then the Axiom Pearl. Smoother through the pin deck and more noticeable carry also.
On newer HPL with a good amount of head oil and less of a cliff at the back end of the pattern and also using the Fire and Ice conditioners, I changed the surface to 5000 ab and the Effect blended the pattern more then the original Parallax where I could get no reaction because the Parallax would just hydroplane on the front of the pattern and never got a chance to change directions or "dig in" the conditioner and be more reliable. The Parallax Effect was able to slow down enough in the front part of the lane to have change of the direction off of the pattern. The more the lineage on the lanes, the better the Parallax Effect performed. I would not use it as a primary ball, but would use in situations where its on later into a block of games or where the left side of the pattern is asymmetric like some sport patterns are becoming.

Props to Vise Inserts for great products and Bret@ Bowlers' Supply, Inc for all the assistance over the past several years with my game, and of course, everyone at SPI for allowing me to be the man known as Roto Grip Rick...

The Storm Parallax Effect far exceeded my expectations. It gets through the fronts no problem like a typical pearl ball, but what sets this ball apart for me is the mid lane reaction. THS like to puddle up in the middle part of the lane as the night goes on and make most pearl balls will start to carry down, this does not happen with the Parallax Effect. It will still pick up in middle and continue all the way through the pins. For me, this is a similar ball to the Axiom Pearl, but stronger in the mid-lane. This ball will be a staple in my bag for upcoming tournaments.

Storm Bowling introduces the new combination of several pearl coverstocks coming together within the Parallax Effect. What’s so special about this ball is that Storm has fused a majority of their staple pearl coverstocks into one, coming up with the cover you have on the Parallax Effect with the original Parallax core inside. What I see out of this ball is a very controllable asymmetrical pearl that isn’t too early but is by no means lazy downlane. The Parallax Effect is perfert for medium to heavy oil medium and long patterns.
Something that you can control the back ends and break point when it comes to a player like myself. I like playing straighter angles and feel like I have control of what the ball is doing, while maintain good ball reaction and having the ball going through the pins properly. Liz Johnson is a perfect example! At the last PWBA event, she won and shot 300 in the semifinal match with this ball!
The ball has proven itself and had the GOAT’s approval! Visit your local Storm VIP Pro Shop today to get yourself one!

Review:
The Storm Parallax Effect is on the high end hook scale for a pearl ball. The Parallax Effect is very different from the original Parallax. The Effect is much cleaner through the front of the lane with much more back end. Sometimes my original would roll a bit too early but the Effect solves this issue while providing me with more angle and hit. I have seen more hook with the latest shiny balls from the Storm brands and surface adjustments are easier and provide a wider range of adjustments than before. The new Utah cover stocks have been exceptional.  I have used the Parallax Effect on a wide variety of conditions and found I can use it with success.  This Ball in my opinion does not need strong layouts to react strong. I have had better luck drilling my balls as well as my customer’s balls weaker and let the cover and core do the work. My Parallax Effect is the strongest shiny ball I have in my bag currently. When I need a hard hitting big hooking polished ball but with more angle than the trend or Axiom Pearl this is now my go to ball.

Summary:
The Parallax Effect gives a cleaner and more angular move than the original.
The Parallax Effwct rolls well on a variety of patterns.
This ball has a lot of hook for a shiny ball.
