The Storm Phaze A.I. is an evolution in the legendary Phaze line, designed to bring the game-changing performance of the Phaze II, but now with a powerful pearl finish. Engineered for bowlers who demand excellence, the Phaze A.I. combines proven technology with advanced innovations to deliver next-level performance on the lanes. With Storm’s Power Edge Polish, the Phaze A.I. achieves a smooth, high-gloss finish faster than ever, enhancing both grip and glide. The stunning pearlized coverstock not only provides exceptional control but also delivers quick and sharp direction changes, giving bowlers the confidence to tackle any lane condition. At its core, the Phaze A.I. is powered by the revolutionary Velocity A.I. Core. Building on the successful low RG/high differential symmetric design of the original Velocity core, this core maximizes ball dynamics while smoothing out backend reactions. The result is dramatically improved pin carry and enhanced control, offering bowlers a consistent and reliable reaction. Incorporating the highly successful TX-16 technology from the Phaze II, the Phaze A.I. boasts a tacky coverstock that creates a large footprint on the lane, ensuring strong traction through the mid-lane. This ball is designed for bowlers who need power, control, and versatility in one package, making the Phaze A.I. a true game-changer in bowling performance.

Storm – Phaze AI
14-pounds
Layout 5x4x1.5
Style – stroker
Ball Speed – 14–15 mph at pins
Condition – house pattern - HPL surface
Surface – box condition
I can easily say that this ball puts a shape in my bag that I didn’t have. Typically, that’s new ball hyperbole that gets said way too often. For instance, I love the ION Pro, it’s my benchmark, but it’s just a stronger version of an IQ Tour Solid for me. I have nothing that gets around the corner for me like the Phaze AI does.
The AI will be a transition ball for me. It’s not going to blend a pattern out for my style of play. But it played well as the second ball behind the previously mentioned ION Pro. I was lucky with the ball shipped to me as there wasn’t an over abundance of white in the ball. It’s readable off the spot. That’s something I’ve struggled with in the past when a ball has too much white in it.
Players with higher rev rates should be able to create some insane angles of entry. Not sure what the carry will look like, but it’ll be fun to watch. I’d previously thought the Optimum and Optimum Pearl with a spare might be an ideal 3 ball league arsenal. I’ve shifted that though now. This ball with the ION Pro and a spare ball will cover a wider range of use. The covers are super strong on the Idols and can tend to burn up and go forward some.
The new Power Edge finish on the AI seemed to be a bit tackier and the ball’s footprint was wide. It would be interesting to use that finish on another ball to see how it might change the reaction shape.
Players will have no question what ball is going down the lane when it’s being rolled. Sometimes that’s a good thing and sometimes not. This will be one of those times when it’s a good thing. My expectations were exceeded with the performance of this ball.

Ball Reviews:

Ion Max:
Asymmetric, strong and designed for heavy oil conditions. The Ion Max with its strong engine will combat the heaviest of oil. Built for the fresh to play on top of it early and slowly migrating in as the transition begins, the Ion Max will be the strongest ball out the bag. This ball can be used with a lot of volume, tighter oil conditions and/or longer oil patterns.

Sublime Focus:
Symmetric and strong. What I like about this ball is the ability to keep my angles tight and up the lane when there is more oil or they are tighter and the stronger asymmetric's are too much ball. For comparison purposes against the other symmetric solids, this  will be earlier than a Phaze 2 and provide a heavier roll smoother roll.

Phaze AI:
The Phaze AI is a throwback to those cleaner angular Storm bowling balls. This ball reminds me of what the UC2 provided with discernible backend motion. This ball will be usable for when the lanes begin to transition, open up and left to right (for righties/reverse for lefties) is needed without losing angle and continuation down lane. This is a great option to have when the solids become too smooth.

The newest addition to the Phaze line is the Phaze AI. Using the AI technology and for the first time the new power edge polish this ball will get down the lane and give some strong backend. I used a 40x5x45 layout on the one in the video. #bowlersmart #stormnation #coolwick #viseinserts

LANE CONDITION

Length:

Volume:

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):

Coverstock: TX-16 Pearl Reactive
Core: Velocity A.I.
Finish: Power Edge
RG: 2.47 (15)
Differential: 0.053 (15)

ME:
Right-Handed Tweener
Speed: 12-13 mph
Rev Rate: 315
Axis Tilt: 14°
Axis Rotation: 74°
PAP: 5 1/8 R 7/8 Up

Ball Layout: Pin In Ring 4 1/2 Pin To Pap 3 Inch Pin Buffer

The newest addition to Storm's Master Line is their latest Phaze. This one Uses a pearl version of the TX-16 cover featured on the Phaze II and adds the Amplified Inertia (A.I.) technology to the Velocity core. The Phaze A.I also features a new finish called power edge.

Storm has chased a ball that really exemplifies what makes the Phaze II great while providing a bit easier length through the front. In previous versions I always felt that they sacrificed a little of the ball motion that makes the phaze II what it is. This time they might have cracked the code.

I tested the Phaze A.I. in league. As I've explained in many of my ball reviews our house has lots of friction worn into the front lane panels and they use a longer, higher volume pattern to attempt to combat the early friction. The problems arise when the front of the lane transitions so much faster than the back. This transition neccessitates a ball which can clear the front but still read in the mid-lane because if it sees the front it will hook in the front and if if doesn't read in the mid-lane it's gonna have difficulty getting back through the tighter back end. All of this can be a nightmare when you're trying to navigate the oil as it breaks down, while finding a way to get your ball to continue through the pins.  The Phaze A.I is hands down the best ball I've used to date in this spot. Game 2 when the lanes start to change it provides a seamless move off of a ball like the Phaze II. It's also very continuous so you can stay in it through the 3rd game without much effort. It's exactly what it needed to be. A little cleaner than the Phaze II through the front, still gives the great consistant mid-lane read and a little more responsive to counteract the increased angle from moving in on the lane.

The Phaze AI should fit with all styles of bowlers very well. The speed dominant guys will love it as the lanes break down and the rev dominant guys will like it everywhere.
