Phaze A.I.
« on: October 18, 2024, 09:30:26 AM »
The Storm Phaze A.I. is an evolution in the legendary Phaze line, designed to bring the game-changing performance of the Phaze II, but now with a powerful pearl finish. Engineered for bowlers who demand excellence, the Phaze A.I. combines proven technology with advanced innovations to deliver next-level performance on the lanes. With Storm’s Power Edge Polish, the Phaze A.I. achieves a smooth, high-gloss finish faster than ever, enhancing both grip and glide. The stunning pearlized coverstock not only provides exceptional control but also delivers quick and sharp direction changes, giving bowlers the confidence to tackle any lane condition. At its core, the Phaze A.I. is powered by the revolutionary Velocity A.I. Core. Building on the successful low RG/high differential symmetric design of the original Velocity core, this core maximizes ball dynamics while smoothing out backend reactions. The result is dramatically improved pin carry and enhanced control, offering bowlers a consistent and reliable reaction. Incorporating the highly successful TX-16 technology from the Phaze II, the Phaze A.I. boasts a tacky coverstock that creates a large footprint on the lane, ensuring strong traction through the mid-lane. This ball is designed for bowlers who need power, control, and versatility in one package, making the Phaze A.I. a true game-changer in bowling performance.

Sam Cooper. Roto Grip Amateur Staff. Man the Storm Phaze AI not only does this ball look sweet going down the lane it reacts just as good as it looks. The TX-16 pearl cover paired with the Velocity AI core will be a great combination for many different bowling styles. I went with a slightly different layout than I typically do with symmetrical pearls. I did a 5.5” pin with a 2.25” pin buffer. When this ball sees the friction, it turns for home in a big way. This feels like the “Storm Reaction” that we have been missing with some balls. There have been many times I will say to myself that ball is not making it back and it just runs the pocket over.  If you are a Phaze 2 lover this ball will be the best compliment to one of the greatest balls of all time.
The Phaze AI also has a new finishing polish called Power Edge. In comparison to Reacta Gloss, I think Power Edge gives you a more consistent read and also hooks more in oil. On the house shots if you miss the ball in the middle of the lane I feel it has a better chance of striking than previous polished balls. I personally am looking forward to trying more spheres with the Power Edge polish on it. I believe this ball is weaker than the Roto Grip Optimum Idol Pearl but stronger than the Storm Hyroad or 900 Global Xponent Pearl. This ball(if you leave it polished) will need some friction on the lane but when there is it will be a fun ball to throw. Like I said before the people that are going to love this ball the most is when your Phaze 2 is hooking too early or not going through the pins properly. Pull out the Phaze AI and let the best compliment to the Phaze 2 do the work for you.

Finally, a pearl Phaze is BACK!! But how does this one improve upon the most recent iteration, the Phaze V? First, the updated core features A.I. tech. So, longer continuation window, more gradual change of direction, and better carry. Second, the coverstock is TX-16 Pearl, a healthy step up from R2S Pearl which was featured on the Phaze V. With all of these things together, you get a Phaze that is true to the identity of Storm but also provides great length, continuation and versatility. With a cover that can handle more oil and a core that keeps going from bigger angles than the original, the Phaze A.I. is a really impressive piece that fills a gap and is SUPER useable on today's conditions.

Hello everyone and welcome to another Beyond the Arrows Ball Reviews brought to you by Striking Results Pro Shop, Bowlifi and Turbo 2 n 1 Grips, today we will be reviewing the new Storm Phaze AI
The Phaze AI has a low RG value of 2.47 which means it will rev up early in the mids and a medium to high differential of 0.053 resulting with a big flare potential in the backend.
The Phaze AI features the Velocity core being wrapped in the Amplified Inertia outer core.    The Velocity A.I. Core elevates the low RG/high differential symmetric combination, enhancing ball dynamics and significantly boosting pin carry. This advanced outer core smooths out the backend reaction without over-reacting.
In addition, The Phaze AI features the brand-new polishing compound called Power Edge.  By combining the TX-16 Pearl coverstock previously seen in the Storm Journey you will the strongest symmetric pearl on the market.
I did a ball comparison to the Storm Lightning Blackout and the Roto Grip Optimum Idol Pearl on a 42 ft house shot, 25 ml of oil.
In comparison to the Lightning Blackout, the Phaze AI starts up sooner and has bigger footprint on the backend which is great for sport patterns with more volume up front.  The Blackout is very smooth through the mids and off the spot in the backend which gives you a very predictable ball motion good for the wet/dry backends.
In comparison to the Optimum Idol Pearl, again the Phaze AI starts up quicker due to strength of the core and cover combination but the Idol is again very smooth through the mids but does pack a punch for the backend.
As per the surface adjustments, the Phaze AI comes out of box with Power Edge polish which is 500>1000>Power Edge
On heavy oil the optimum surface would be a 500>1000 grit Abralon.
In the bag, will be the Roto Grip Xcell, HRP, Phaze AI and Storm DNA Coil
Please pick up a Storm Phaze AI at a Striking Results Proshop near you and please like and subscribe to my page Beyond the Arrows Ball reviews.  Use my coupon code Patrick300 on your first purchase of a Bowlifi jersey and get $5.00 off or $5.00 off a $50.00 or more purchase.

Storm Phaze A.I.
Coverstock: TX-16 Pearl Reactive
Finish: Power Edge
Core: Velocity A.I. Core
RG: 2.47, Diff: 0.053 (15 lb.)
VLS Layout: 4-1/2 x 4 x 2-1/4
Dual Angle Layout: 45 x 4-1/2 x 35
PAP: 5 3/16” right x 5/8” up
Rev rate: 400 rpm
Average speed: 16.5 mph
Location: Prairie Lanes, Sun Prairie WI
Pattern: Medium volume THS

The Storm Phaze A.I. is the newest iteration of the famed Phaze series of bowling balls and features the iconic Velocity Core. But this time the core is paired with Amplified Inertia (A.I.) technology and is wrapped in the TX-16 pearl coverstock – the pearl version of the Phaze II cover. If that’s not enough, the Phaze A.I. is also the first ball in the Storm lineup to feature the all-new Power Edge polished finish.

I typically find myself on the fence when it comes to factory polish. There have been some balls where I’ve left the ball shiny and others where I’ve lightly scuffed the cover with an Abralon pad. With Phaze A.I., I wanted to try out the new Power Edge factory polish before making any changes to the surface. For about the first 10 games I found the reaction to be a bit sensitive to oil than I wanted to see. I decided knock some of the shine off with a used 3000-grit Abralon pad by hand, which resulted in a much better reaction by blending out some of the over/under yet retaining that quicker motion on the backend that Storm is known for.

The Phaze A.I. is the perfect complement to the Phaze II. The A.I. is a little bit longer and more responsive off the friction, compared to the clean yet controlled reaction we’ve come to expect from the Phaze II. For me, the Phaze A.I. is a great go-to ball for both league and tournaments play when the lanes have transitioned and you need some extra length and pop on the backend. Bowlers of all styles will get plenty of use out of Phaze A.I., and it will fill that spot in your bag for when the lanes open up and you can create steeper launch angles. You won’t want to miss out on this one.

Ball Specs:
Storm Phaze A.I.
Coverstock: TX-16™ Power Edge Pearl Reactive
Core: Velocity™ A.I. Core (Symmetrical)
Color: Ivory/Anchor/Onyx

Review:
This is a BIG release for many reasons… First, the Phaze II is probably the GOAT so coming out with another variation has very large shoes to fill. Then comes adding the A.I. core to the famous weight block and not to mention the debut of the new polish POWER EDGE (Thank god – as we were not huge fans of the reacta gloss finish). The first thing we notice is it definitely has a patented phaze ball motion which is described as forgiving, continuous, predictable, stable, and versatile. We drilled this ball with our normal layout: tweener, 350-375 revs, 16.5mph, layout of choice is 4x4x2 (pin is above bridge). It is early to come to conclusions but the power edge finish probably has a lot to do with this ball seeming to be more forgiving off the pattern. In our short experience with the reacta gloss finish we did note that sometimes it seemed to give a little too over/under and be very sensitive off the pattern to speed. This polish seems not as “slick” and seems to pick up a touch earlier to help with this issue. So far we like what we see out of this ball. If there is any downsides… reading a black and white ball that is very shiny is a little tough and distracting but if the ball strikes then who cares. Another banger from the Phaze line!

Ball Specs:
Storm Phase A.I.
TX16 Pearl Reactive Cover
Power Edge Polished
Velocity Core (Symmetric)
Layout 4.5 x 4 with 2” Pin Buffer

Bowler Specs:
Right Hand. PAP 5” Over 1/2 up
Rev Rate 300. Tilt 20. Rotation 50.
Speed at release 17

Review:
The new Phase A.I. is a great rolling ball that reads the mid lane nicely but retains energy for a strong move on the back part of the lane. This ball is very versatile and should fit most bowlers’ games regardless of their style. Some players have told me it took a few games to get the feel of this ball but my first time out I shot a nice 733 series and I used it all three games with small adjustments. I have really been impressed with how the Phase A.I. hits and carries. I believe this is due to the combination of how it stores energy and the use of the A.I. core. This ball has been selling really well at the shop and from the distributorship. I think Storm has a hit with this one. I also believe the Power Edge finish is something Storm bowlers have been looking for. The bowlers I have sold the Phase A.I. to have been very happy. I would call the Phase A.I. a medium to strong ball that fits under my Ion Max but above my Lightning Blackout. I recommend this ball to anyone who wants a medium to strong benchmark ball with a strong back end. I think this will be a versatile ball that will have many applications on the lane.

Summary:
The Phase A.I. is an excellent ball for all types of styles.
The way the Phase A.I. moves on the back provides hard hit and excellent carry.
The colors of this ball are attractive and look great going down the lane.

Phaze AI isn't afraid of oil!!
Review by Chris M. on 27 Nov 2024review stating Phaze AI isn't afraid of oil!!Bowlers Info: RH tweener, PAP 4-5/8 x 3/4 up, 380 RPM, 13* of Axis tilt, 60* of Axis Rotation

Ball Layout: 45 x 5-1/4 x 35
VLS: 5. 25 x 4 x 2. 5

Finish: OOB

The new Storm Phaze AI is a ball I’ve been waiting for some time now. But Storm upped the game with the new PowerEdge polish that brings back that 1500-grit poliRead more about review stating Phaze AI isn't afraid of oil!!sh we all know and love about Storm and Roto pieces!! This piece is stronger than I originally thought and the PowerEdge, even at high polish, reads the midlane while maintaining its energy to pound the pins. I put a 5-1/4” pin with 2. 5” pin buffer which puts the pin high above my bridge so this piece will be a transitional piece and have a continuous strong motion once it sees the friction. Compared to my Optimum Idol, this one rolls a bit sooner and is more continuous with a very strong arc where I can get inside and play more of a rounded shape to get around the flatness of sport patterns. Put a touch of surface on it and it will dig into the oil for a great mid-lane read. This new core/cover combination is truly a winner that is great for a variety of conditions and player styles. Don’t wait on this one, it will deliver many strikes!

Orientation:  Right Handed
Rev Rate:  400 RPM
Speed:  16-17 MPH
PAP:  4 ½ over and 1 1/8 up

Location:  Enterprise Park Lanes, Springfield MO
Pattern:  High Volume THS
VLS Layout:
Layout 1:  4 5/8 x 4 x 2 ½ (Pin above bridge)
Layout 2:  4 ¼ x 4 x 4 (pin below bridge)

The Phaze AI is the best pearl Phaze ever.  The OG Phaze was too strong and chuggy.  The Phaze 4 and 5 were cleaner and more responsive but at times was allergic to oil.  The Phaze AI is JUUUUST right.

It’s very clean but it has no problem with oil.  I can use it on a little more volume or gear my miss into the puddle in the cliff and not be afraid of the weak 10.  I’ve also had the Phaze series want to get a little forward and the AI core keeps the axis a little longer than a typical Phaze.  I can see using it when there’s friction in the pattern or the surface and won’t have to worry about it not handling the oil as I move across the pattern.

If you have thrown the Phaze line bowling balls or not, this one will make you take a double look! I love the way this ball rolls. Not many balls out of the box I throw, but this one out of the box was and is still a ball to keep in my bag. For me either on a fresh league shot or tournament shot on that 6th game. You can move away from others and play your shot. It rolls very nice, the mid lane looks awesome, then the back end is there as well. I've been bowling for awhile, and I'm amazed what Storm has done! Awesome for sure!

Phaze AI: A Perfect Blend of Performance and Versatility
« Reply #25 on: December 05, 2024, 03:46:55 PM »
The Phaze AI has quickly impressed me with its performance. What really drew me to this ball was the AI core technology (which I LOVE) and the innovative Power Edge Factory Finish. It provides just the right amount of length without going too far, making it incredibly reliable. The Power Edge Factory Finish also makes this ball an excellent option for drier conditions, adding versatility to its list of strengths. Overall, the Phaze AI is an impressive addition to my arsenal!

"Transition Killer! That’s all Chaise and I have to say about this ball. The Phaze AI is an absolute game-changer for when lanes shift from wet to dry. It’s designed to handle the transition smoothly, allowing you to keep rolling confidently without constantly switching balls. This is easily one of the most predictable balls I’ve ever thrown and an incredible partner to the Phaze II. For the middle part of league or the challenging mid-rounds in tournaments, the Phaze AI is a lifesaver, letting you stay focused and struggle less. Back up the truck please, I will take a truck load of these please.

I drilled up my PHAZE AI with the trusty 60 x 4.5 x 35 layout. So far, I have thrown it at box surface but have thrown it enough to wear the Power Edge off of it and bring it to a more stable surface closer to 4700 grit.

My first impression was one of disappointment as I felt it was too close to the OPTIMUM IDOL PEARL in shape and length. Enter trying to smooth the surface by throwing it more along with lightly cracking the surface with a 4000 CTD pad which is more like 3000 in regular abralon. Now the PHAZE AI is different enough that OIP is very much longer and a nice compliment down from the PHAZE AI. I did throw it some also beside the newer ORIGIN but the ORIGIN is a much earlier and stronger reaction down the lane. The AI impressed me enough to consider drilling a second one with a pin down layout to close the gap to my ROAD WARRIOR which is a lot longer than the AI and OIP and smoother. I also may drill a second one and put more surface on it to bridge the gap between it and the ORIGIN which is a lot earlier than the PHAZE AI.
