Phaze II
« on: October 12, 2016, 04:25:58 PM »
The Storm Phaze II has the attributes of both an innovative core and coverstock technology. The fast-revving shape of the Velocity Core evens out the backend reaction without causing over-reaction. The TX-16 Solid Reactive coverstock leaves an unbelievable footprint on the lane. The footprint allows the Phaze II to perform well on sections of the lane that would normally be avoided. The coupling of the Velocity core and the TX-16 solid cover generate a powerful motion. Step up to the next phase, the Phaze II!

COMMENTS

The Storm Phaze II is the newest edition to the Master line and provides a great addition to the series. While the Phaze and Phaze II share the same namesake and Velocity Core, the similarities between the two stop there. The Phaze II comes equipped with the all new TX-16 cover that provides excellent traction in the slick part on the lane while still retaining energy well enough to make a nice strong move down lane. This cover/core combination is a superb pairing and the Phaze II is the perfect blend of benchmark ball and strong solid. The lower rev players and strokers will find this ball to be plenty strong and will be pleased with its overall hook. The higher rev and faster speed players will find that this ball gives the player a nice consistent read of how the oil pattern plays and is definitely strong enough to throw on fresh oil. Many players have compared this ball to the infamous Marvel-S. While there are similarities, the Phaze II is cleaner through the front part of the lane and saves energy much better than the Marvel-S. It's a wonderful edition to Storm's lineup and is often the first ball out of my bag no matter where I'm bowling.

I drilled up my Phaze II the same as my original Phaze, 75 x 5 x 35 which is my favorite drilling for stronger balls as they retain energy in the back end of the lane more this way for me. I noticed right away how much stronger the Phase II is compared to the original Phaze. I get continuous motion and can play multiple angles with this ball as long as there is enough head oil present. The Phaze II is a great compliment to the original as an early reading versatile piece of equipment.

Likes:  ability to handle oil, smooth predictable motion, great carry power
Dislikes: none
The Phaze 2 is Storms newest release in their Master Line.  The Phaze 2 contains the Velocity core.  The ball is covered with the TX-16 reactive cover and is finished with a 3000 grit matte finish.
I drilled my Phaze 2 with the pin to the right of my ring finger and the CG in my palm.  I wanted to be able to play straighter with this ball on heavier oil.  The goal was to be able to keep the ball in front of me and not give away the pocket.  This ball pretty much does that but I can open the lanes up when it asks for it.  The Phaze 2 reads the midlane real well and has fantastic hitting power through the pins.  The ball handles well and I could only imagine how well it would react if I put a stronger layout on it for me.  It only has about a 3 inch pin so the flare potential is pretty low on the one I drilled.
I recommend this ball for a bowler who needs something to handle oil.  This ball reads the mids very well but also handles more medium volume and length patterns.  It’s a great overall versatile ball.

Likes: The Phaze2 is a very good motion for me on tighter patterns. Compared to original Phaze, this one is much more versatile. The smooth continuous motion allows you control the lanes much better. Its a similar motion to the Marvel-S but not quite as early and strong. I highly recommend this ball for all tournament bowlers, its a must have in your bag. Its also good for guys on their league shot that alittle heavier volume.

Avg speed-15.5 to 16mph
PAP-3 3/8 over, 3/8 down

I'd heard varying accounts about the Phaze II, so I wasn't sure what to expect.  Thanks to Steve Kloempken, I had two to drill and tinker with.  Since my favorite Symmetricals over the last several years were the Marvel S and Disturbed, I drilled the first Phaze II with the same layout I had in both of them, 3x5x3.  Left the surface at OOB.  I can only say, "Wow."

This may be the best matching of cover and core since the IQ Tour Solid.  This ball personifies smooth, even and continuous.  The ball's characteristics appear to be to blend out transition both horizontally and vertically.  It is both clean and early revving at the same time.  Also noticeable is that it doesn't seem to lane shine much.  When the cliff develops, this ball will be right at home.  It also will be very effective on the fresh, so long as it isn't too heavy or long.

For comparison, I threw it along with a Wipe Out, IQ Tour Solid and an Alpha Crux.  I wanted to get a well rounded look at its characteristics.  The Wipe out was simply less ball, as you would imagine.  about four boards.  But being a dull solid, I wanted to get a broad comparison.  The IQ Tour Solid was actually very close to the Phaze II.  At 3000 surface, it was slightly less but a little more late reaction.  The Alpha Crux was earlier and more overall than the Phaze II for me.

I will be drilling a second one with a much more flippy drilling.  The Phaze II is a must have for the lower speed player.   :) :) :)

This has to be one of my favorite balls on the market. This is the strongest symmetrical bowling ball in the Storm line. This ball can be used on House shots and/or short, medium and long sport patterns. The ball really blends out the lane patterns well and gives the bowler significant control. It is easy to see the adjustments needed when using this ball. This ball is smooth and predictable. To show how much I love this ball I already own 3 of them!!!

**THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO MY FIRST REVIEW OF THE PHAZE II**

As promised, I drilled another one with a more flippy layout for my low PAP.  This one is pin on the center line reasonably above the bridge, resulting in a 5 1/4" pin to PAP with a 2 3/4" pin buffer.  The CG is swung out about 2 1/2 inches to the right, on the midline with a BFH (big f**king hole) in P4. I left this one at the OOB surface, just as my first one.

I was pleasantly surprised by the versatility displayed by this ball.  The marked increase in length (but not skid) and continuation (but not snap) over my previously reviewed layout was more than I had expected.  Most balls can't be altered in reaction to as great a degree as the Phaze II appears to allow.  I must state again, the is a great matching of cover and core.

Afterthoughts- testing a theory, I drilled two Torrents very similar to the two Phaze II's.  After comparisons on several patterns, I can say with a high level of confidence that these two balls are "linked at the hip".  They function in symbiosis as a ball up or ball down.  Very complementary.
