The NEW Storm Reign On is a more modern version of the Reign Supreme.  The original CAM core that was in the reign wrapped in the ever so popular R2S hybrid gives you a nice smooth clean reaction.  I drilled mine 50x3 1/2x75 (Axis 3 3/4 over, 7/8 up)  and it did exactly what I thought it would do.  It allowed me to square up and play the lanes a lil straighter without reading to early.  I am going to like this ball on anything 39ft or shorter.  If you were a fan of the reign series balls, this new addition will not disappoint you!

The Reign On will not disappoint. For me this ball is later than the Reign of Power and more of an arcing backend motion. I have mine drilled pin above my middle finger and the cg below my ring finger. As I am left handed this ball allows me to stand more left than the Power and play a little straighter and if needed I can move right and open the lanes. I haven't had the chance to throw this on a sport pattern yet but I am confident that it will perform as I want it to.

Reign On review –
I used my favorite layout on the Reign On.  Pin above my middle finger and the cg kicked out at a 45 degree angle with a small hole on my axis.

I have had the opportunity to use the Reign on, on the following patterns:
House, Abbey Road, Broadway, US Open, Badger and Wolf.

The Reign On reminds me of the Reign Supreme.  The Reign supreme was one of my go to balls for a while that I could use on many patterns.  It looks like the Reign On will be just as versatile.  I think the Reign on is a little smoother than the Reign Supreme and hyroad.  The Reign on allows me to play a more direct line on the fresh.  What I really liked about the Reign on, is as the lanes broke down I could move in and never lost hitting power.

The Reign on will be ideal for medium length patterns (both sport and house shots).  If you like the reign supreme or hyroad you should also like the reign on.  It is a very versatile ball that can be used on most patterns.

Lay Out: 5" from PAP at 60* PAP angle and 40* VAL angle. Dual angle measurement would be 60/5/40. The pin ended up about 1/2 above my ring finger with the CG very slightly swung out from the ring finger. No weight hole yet, but plan to put one in the P2 section

Surface: I am box finish which is 4000 abralon.

Purpose: I wanted to drill up this up to try to get something that I could start closer to the oil line with but wouldn't overreact if sent a little wide.

Lane Condition Observations: I have thrown this on a couple of different house patterns: 2 different volume/length house shots on Pro Anvilane. The Reign On was only out of it's element on the lower volume shot; It just labored thru the front and didn't have much pop on the back. On the more puddled shot, the Reign On is strong enough and I need to keep it online thru the oil to keep it from leaving rope tens and nines.

Response to Friction: The Reign On in box condition is a medium response ball. This one looks to be versatile enough to go pin up or down if needed.

Other Ball Comparisons: I threw it with my Deranged, Lucid, & Byte. Compared to my Deranged, the Reign On is much more earlier off the spot and needs more oil or it will labor at the break. The Deranged gets a lot more length than the Reign On. My Lucid is still 4000 box and it gets up earlier in the midlane than the Reign On. I could probably dull the Reign On to 2000 to get it earlier than the Lucid. The Byte makes a good ball to go down from and go away from the pocket more.

Final Thoughts: The Reign On gives me the impression it could be a benchmark type ball as I know right away whether to go early/stronger (Lucid) or later/stronger (The Byte) right away after about 4-5 shots.

My Reign On Layout: 70 degrees x 5" X 2" (30 degrees)

When the Reign On was announced I was pretty excited to drill one up. I really liked what the Reign of Power gave me for a look on under/over house shots but especially at the 2013 Nationals in the team event. I felt like I had the whole lane with the Reign of Power.

My favorite attribute of the Reign of Power is it's smooth reaction and the fact that it doesn't immediately react to the dry and overhook or stop. As much as I like that reaction at times on under/over house conditions it's not always ideal. The Reign On will give me an option when the Reign of Power is just too smooth and need a little extra reation downlane. By comparison I would say the Reign On gives me 3 to 4 more boards of backend when compared to a similarly layed out Reign of Power.

Admittedly I have not used the Reign On as much as I would have liked the last month plus because the Byte has dominated my ball selection during that time. However, I have switched to the Reign On a couple of times later in the block when I had only the 55 degree Byte and it became too angular for me and couldn't stop leaving a 9-pin with it. The Reign On allowed me to move just a couple boards left and smooth out the reaction enough to finish the set.

Conditions I have used the Reign On on: I have preferred my ball reaction with the Reign On on AMF lane surfaces. I have used the Reign On on three different house shots/lengths on AMF HPL versus the couple of times I have tried it on Brunswick Pro Anvilane with a 43' house shot. However, keep in mind this is with a 70 degree x 5" layout, I have just drilled a new Reign On with a pin-down 55 degree x 4 1/4" layout which should work better on longer pattern/harder lane surface. I haven't had a chance to try this layout on the Brunswick surface yet but I will this week and will report back the results.

I have however tried the new layout on a 43' medium-heavy sport shot over the weekend and the ball handled the length and volume very well so I expect good results.

Where the Reign On fits in my bag: The Reign On is in between my Marvel-S/Reign of Power and my IQ Tour Pearl.

When I use the Reign On: I would use the Reign On when my Marvel-S or Reign of Power are too much ball (too early or just not finishing through the pins) but there's a little too much oil for my IQ Tour Pearl.

BALL REACTION
This ball rocks one of my favorite scents, GRAPE! Plus, I enjoyed the Reign Supreme and unfortunately it was killed by machine damage as I sat on the front 18. So of course I was excited to see this Reign On coming! The center I used the Reign On at runs a 42’ pattern with plenty of oil and this ball handles it just fine. The Reign On is not challenging to project down the lane as some want to think because of the matte finish. Off of the spot, this ball has that heavy move that the bowlers have come to expect from the C.A.M.™ core. It does not go sideways but you know it will get there without a doubt. So far, I’ve been using this ball on the fresh at league and despite not bowling any crazy games it keeps me around the 230 mark as it doesn’t fall prey to the over-under that comes from bowling on a THS.

For me, I hit this ball with an old 1000 grit pad and a little polish which has increased the back end motion for me. For me, the surface adjustment is helping the ball retain its energy which has increased my carry.

The Reign On is a hair smoother than the Reign Supreme but will give you all of the versatility you remember from the Reign Supreme.

Storm Reign On Ball Review

This ball is something different.  All of the balls with the Reign core in it have been more forward or roily for me.  This ball is right along those same lines.  I can see this ball being really, really good for high rev guys who feel like the Hyroad Pearl, Lights Out, or Freak’n Frantic are too angular for them.  This is one of the smoothest balls in Storm’s lineup.  I have drilled one so far and love it.  I drilled it with a very simple layout, 5 x 4 ¾ , no hole.  This puts the pin just under my bridge and the center of gravity just above my thumb with a slight shift.

My immediate reaction when throwing the Reign On is that it will be great for the first game or two of league.  If you see your ball change direction too hard when the lanes are fresh and you leave a lot of splits, this ball will be a much different shape.  Because it’s so smooth, it will keep you out of trouble.  Picking up single pin spares are a lot easier than splits! Or if some asymmetrical balls are too strong for you, this a strong, symmetrical shape that will NOT change direction too hard.

If you do drill this ball, I would recommend using a Hyroad Pearl, Deranged, Lights Out, Freak’n Frantic after this ball starts to labor.  A great benefit with the Reign On is it will tell you when to put it back in the bag.  Once some oil gets starts to move farther down the lane, that is when you can switch to a cleaner, more angular ball to give you those hits!

Right handed
  PAP- 4 up 1 1/4
  Rev Rate - 380-400
  Ball Speed - 16-17
  Axis Tilt - 15

The Storm Reign On uses the C.A.M.â„¢ (Continuous Axis Migration) weight block, wrapped with R2Sâ„¢ Hybrid Reactive coverstock.
I drilled mine 4 5/8 x 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 and added Storm Step 2.
Most of the balls in the Reign Series are kinda forward or rolly for me.
So with this in mind that is why I chose the layout above.  The Reign On has more motion down lane than the Reign Of Power, but still has a overall smooth reaction.
Which this reaction is great for bowling on the fresh conditions. Also for the several house shots that have the wet/dry look to them.  This ball for me will be a good one to use to help control the lane and keep the ball on line to the pocket.
Also when the other Angular Storm balls are just a little too much on the backend, the Reign On will help smooth out that reaction.
I think this ball is a step up from the IQ Tours and beneath the Hyroad Pearl and Marvel-S.

Another great addition the Storm Family!  #StormNation

Storm Reign On
PAP-5 over and ½ up
Ball Speed:  15-17mph
Rev Rate: 300-500
Right Handed
Layout: 4x4x2
Surface Preparation:  OTB

What I wanted from this ball:  I wanted a pearl version of the Reign of Power

Result:  Exactly what I expected from this ball.  A pearl version of my Reign of Power with a good length down the lane and a smooth controllable roll toward the pocket.

Compared to the Reign of Power, the Reign on gives me the length I need to get the ball down the lane and have a good consistent smooth motion towards the pocket.

I tested this ball on our home wood lanes with our house pattern.  Our house pattern is a pretty tough shot with dryer heads in the middle portion of the lane creating a huge early backend reaction for most and a massive out of bounds from the first arrow out.  There is a small hold area around the 8 board but you cant miss inside or out.

The first set of 3 games on a freshly oiled pair, I quickly found out that I cannot play deep inside with this ball without really putting a lot on it.  Over the 3 game duration, I migrated right until I ended up around the second arrow playing pretty straight up.  Over the course of the next 5-10 games, I continued to stay around the second arrow with just a minor migration to the left with my stance and kept the same line and angle to the pocket.  I also found out that If I throw this ball a little too firm, I tend to wrap a corner pin.  Once I settled down and started stroking the ball up the shot, I found the Reign On to roll very consistent and predictable.

To sum this ball up, I expected much more backend reaction than I got, but ended up being happy with the length and consistent smooth roll to the pocket.  I will utilize this ball on dryer lane conditions definitely or when I want to play a more straight up shot.

Pro Shop Reaction:  A pretty good selling ball so far.  My storm customers are slowly but surely buying this ball to compliment their Reign Of Power balls.

Recommendations:  I would definitely recommend this ball for a dryer lane conditions or a snappy backend.  This is a good ball to use when you want to calm down your shot and play a baby swing or straight up and have consistent control.

Benjamin Goede (Storm/Rotogrip Amateur Staffer)
Ball Weight: 14LBS
PAP: 4 inches over X 1/2 up
Layout: Pin under ring, cg stacked straight down, no hole

When first drilling this ball I wasn't sure what to expect.  I remember the reign supreme which was also a hybrid being very smooth and controllable and was hoping this would have similar reaction.  Well the one word I would use to describe this ball is SMOOTH.  I've found it to be an excellent reader ball and controls the whole lane.  The only time I've noticed an inconsistent reaction is when the lanes start to dry out and get toasty it tends to want to read to early.  I feel this ball is best suited for guys with less hand and like to play up the boards.  I didn't have to much success swinging the ball on various patterns.  It seemed to either hook up to early or never make the corner.  I tried some surface adjustments on the ball and it certainly helped. I took a fresh 1000 pad to it and it blended the lane out better and then when I shined it up it took away the early hook.  I would highly recommend purchasing this ball if you are looking for something to be your first ball out the bag to get an idea for what you are bowling on.

REIGN ON review by Storm staffer Jeff Richgels

DRILLED November 2013
The REIGN ON specs are here:
http://www.stormbowling.com/products/balls/reignon

You can see a picture of it in my blog here:
http://www.11thframe.com/reviews/26

I’m a huge fan of the REIGN SUPREME and still frequently use one I have hundreds of games on, as it’s great on hooking/broken down patterns that don’t feature a big puddle. It gets tons of use in PBA competition on Cheetah and Viper, particularly.

So a big sell job wasn’t needed when I heard about the REIGN ON, another ball with the awesome R2S (hybrid) coverstock (updated I believe in the years since the REIGN SUPREME was released) and C.A.M. (Continuous Axis Migration) weight block.

The C.A.M. symmetrical weight block is “shaped to create a steady migration of the axis throughout the lane” producing “a more consistent amount of flare even when you aren’t as consistent as you’d like,” according to Storm.

And that’s exactly what the REIGN ON has delivered for me so far, which is both good and bad — just as with the REIGN SUPREME.

I drilled my REIGN ON fairly weak, with the pin above and left of my middle finger and a strong drilling angle back through my grip. My goal was a smoother motion than my REIGN SUPREME.

The numbers are 6 1/8 pin to PAP, 2 3/4  “MB” to PAP, and 3 7/8 pin buffer.

My REIGN ON has absolutely excelled at times, most notably when I bowled on a very wet/dry house shot in our Senior City Tournament, and every ball I tried game me brutal over/under. The REIGN ON blended out my motion and gave me a 269 finale with 12 flush hits — yes, I wish I had pulled it out earlier!

However, at other times it has been useless, either providing nowhere near enough motion or weak 9-counts galore when getting to the pocket.
But that is fine by me as it has filled a niche in my arsenal — a ball for wet/dry conditions (without a giant puddle) and one that provides me controlled motion without any sharp movement.

The cover has taken fine to tweaking to different textures from 1,500 to the box 4,000 — not surprising since it’s R2s! (I have not tried it shiny since that’s what my REIGN SUPREME is.)

I’m sure a stronger layout would yield more reaction, but I don’t have any interest in that with this ball.

I think the REIGN ON should be great for big-hand players and anyone else looking for control. It might even be great for strokers as it might let them play straighter than a lot of balls would.

But if you’re looking for a skid/flip ball that makes that pronounced move, the REIGN ON is NOT for you.

LANE CONDITION

Length: 41'

Volume: medium

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS

COMMENTS

May be the strongest mid lane ball in either brand. This ball picks up at the end of the pattern and never stops. During our matchmaker it was the only ball any style of bowler could pick up and get a strong read out of. This is by far the strongest reign to date. It was unbelievable pin carry. Layout used was the Motion Hole by Mo Pinel.

Storm Reign On
50x3.5x60

The Reign On is definitely another winner from Storm Products in the Thunder Line.  Being one of the most successful lines in Storm Product history, anything coming out within it is sure to be great for a wide variety of bowlers and the Reign On definitely didn't disappoint.  The Reign of Power was one of the better balls I have owned recently and I couldn't wait to get my hands on the Hybrid version.  The fact that they wrapped the extremely successful R2S Hybrid Coverstock (made famous by the Hyroad) to the already great C.A.M. Core made me even more excited as I was laying this one out!

My intent of the layout was to get the ball to read the mid lanes well and keep the ball from snapping down lane on shorter patterns.  I expected the ball to be a little longer and have slightly more angle than its solid counterpart but this thing surprised me with just how well it could retain energy.  I was able to play multiple angles and zones on the lane without giving up entry angle or hitting power.  This thing started to move in the mid lane and just continued all the way through the pins everywhere.  I have been able to use the Reign On in multiple conditions including some longer patterns (Scorpion) as well as the shorter patterns (Wolf) without issue.

The best part about this ball is that it is very easy to read as it transitions from skid through hook and into roll.  The color pattern is contrasting enough to see the movement well but the cover/core combination just makes this ball behave for the bowler.  Its controllable without sacrificing power or entry angle and that is something I always look for when building a benchmark ball for my arsenal.

Likes: My Reign On is super smooth. I put a 55*4.5*60 layout on it. It reads the fronts really well and gets into a super smooth roll. I put a hole on my midline 4in out. Its overall hook is the same as my Hyroad Prl but its much sooner. It compliments my Prl stuff very well. I can start with this ball straight and when the lanes transition i can pull out the Hyroad Prl and stay in the same zone. It doesnt over  react on drier conditions which i love. It just gets into its roll and continues to roll smooth.
