great ball for the price
drilled pin about 3" from axis and underneath the fingers
i have lower revs with a speed of 15-16 mph and i play up the boards on a pattern that is heavy oil across 15-25 board and the track is medium oil and outside is dry, its a block pattern and not very forgiving.

i play up with my breakpoint ranging from 5-10th board and even though mine is 10LBS i can average a high average of 172 and my average is currently 152

i would recommend this to anyone wanting to play dry-medium lanes and or a beginner

I actually have in my profile that this is the first Storm ball I've owned. After my series on Friday night,it will not be the last.I've always waited until the shot had broken down a little to use this ball.I started with it right off and was I glad. With an open in the second(ringing 10 and missed it!)I ended up with 246 first game.I was in the pocket all night and shot 724.
The first one and hopefully not last one in a long time.
I like it.And will get another Storm/Roto-Grip for sure.

Hello all, I'm writing about this ball that I bought for my Son,(Who's only 10). We watched our son struggle in the winter leagues with a 10 pound Tropical storm. This summer however, with upped him to 13 pound and got the ocean/sky blue tropical one. Drilled in a 10:30 below both fingers, a late, smooth rolling ball it was. Anyway He finished the winter league with a 124 average, Now in the youth/adult league, he shot hie first 500 series, and averaging 151! Wow this ball maybe a beginner ball, but it is a stout one! Today in the saturday practice, he again surprised me with games of 178-176-193, for a 547 series! If you purchase this ball, you have to watch for the fast tracking that is has, making sure to refinished it about every month, that depends on used, and on lanes conditions also.
Overall I give this ball a great rating!

when the lanes break down and i moved as far left as possible being that i am a right handed bowler i pull out my tropical storm to keep my game at its best. very weak but great for the drier lanes when all else fails.

hey people. i would like your help with a drilling layout for my 2 tropical storm that i am getting for my birthday. i need one 2 go skid flip with a very strong backend n hard through the deck. that would be for medium 2 heavy oil which the oil is rather walled up through the middle of the lane. plus i need a layout for another one for dryer conduit which i would be able 2 play on the burn with and feel comfortable using. I would be most grateful if anybody would be back 2 me about the layouts and help me progress. i am currently bowling for Junior Team england and would like somebody expertise and help me make the right decisions 2 help me progress with my bowling.

Many Thanks

Tropical Storm Yellow/Purple

Layout- Pin next to ring, CG next to thumb, deep and narrow hole down by the thumb.

I  was thinking this ball would be a weaker option than some of my other  stuff, like my Dark Star, but to my surprise it actually out hooked it.  It was definitely longer than my other weak balls (Dark Star, Sonic  Boom, Venus, Neptune) and was noticeably more off the spot (more  backend), which is unfortunately not exactly what I was hoping for, but I  have to say, this ball provided a lot of hook for your dollar and,  given the location at which the ball hooked, I think this ball offers up  an excellent piece for bowlers looking for their first reactive ball  for all but the highest of ball speeds (see the Roto Grip Riot for the  flame throwers). The look of the ball was intriguing. You don’t see that  color combination very often, but the color DEFINITELY grew on me.

I love this ball as well...bought the black cherry one and love the look I get through the heads.  I tend to go to this ball in the third game and the line never changes :)  The coverstock is a little touchy to temps, I am now on my third one.  The first two cracked while in the locker.

The Tropical Storm has been an integral part of STORM’s line-up for several years now. While a lot of people have dismissed this as a “beginner’s hook ball,” I believe that the Tropical Storm has a place in everyone’s arsenal.

The Tropical Storm, with its 1500-grit Reactor Pearl coverstock, is ideal for light-to-medium oil patterns in which a low flare potential is vital. This ball goes long until it reaches any patch of dry lane; then it starts a heavy roll. If you are playing outside, this ball works very well due to its gradual and predictable movement. Unless your name is Jason Belmonte, I would not recommend throwing this ball cross-lane, as the low flare potential will not bring this ball back to the pocket. Otherwise, if you enjoy playing around the 1st and 2nd arrows, this is certainly the ball to own. And with a variety of colors and scents available, there’s no reason not to have one.

My Tropical Storm has a 3 inch pin and is drilled (for a lefty) with the pin above and slightly to the left of my ring finger and the CG under my ring finger. I got it because I wanted something that would give me length but still have drive into the pocket. I use the ball mostly on dryer lane conditions, usually a broken down house shot, and swing it out over the second arrow but I can also play more direct when there is heavier oil and the ball will just slide towards the pocket and then grip the lane late and hit hard. I’ve also found that it can be used on a fresh sport shot (if the pattern isn’t too long) for a few frames until the oil starts to carry down.

Every tournament bowler needs a dry lane ball, one they can turn to late in the day when the lanes are completely fried. The Tropical Storm is a great option and would be a solid addition to anyone’s arsenal.

I was looking for a ball that would allow me to play a down-and-in line or an outside line on a dry shot because I tend to be less consistent playing inside. For that, the Tropical Storm is just what I was looking for. It has a predictable roll and provides the length necessary on dry lanes when everything else you throw is hooking in the heads. The only problem with the Tropical Storm is that it doesn’t have much power in the backend if it hits any kind of oil. For league bowlers, there aren’t many shots that would break down enough to be suitable for a Tropical Storm.

For collegiate bowlers and other tournament bowlers like me, the Tropical Storm can add another dimension to your game if you tend to struggle on dry lanes. I almost look forward to the tail end of a tournament so I can pull out the Tropical Storm and see what it can do.

COMMENTS

Likes:great ball on short oil, or dry heads will simply not read early or midlane under any condition, but will move very agressively on dry backends (after some speed has scrubbed off) The secret to effectively using this ball is to get it to snap just a foot or so shy of the pocket at about 50' or so and the break will continue to drive through the 5 pin, If this ball does read even a little early it will lose energy and hit light, leaving  corners. Great down and in with dry outside and speed, good touch ball inside with medium revs and low speed (high RG means lower revs are easy)

Dislikes: RG a bit high for a coverstock that slides so well, a trade of a little flip for a little roll would make it unstoppable. Tried more surface (1000 no polish) but it just rolls out, not retaining any energy, Hmmmm
