Special Agent
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
Intelligence has reported that conditions are becoming increasingly volatile. The agency recognizes this threat and has constructed a new, super device - code name: Special Agentâ„¢. Our laboratory has taken the EMCâ„¢ weight block and has encased it with the next generation of the original Reactorâ„¢ coverstock - the new R2Sâ„¢ Solid Reactive. Specially formulated for medium- heavy oil, micro additives give the R2Sâ„¢ amazing traction and friction.

Combined, this device produces heavier roll that smoothes out the transition and generates an unstoppable reaction to the pocket. The agency is depending on you - DO NOT FAIL

I practiced with it for 2 weeks and Sunday was the first time i used it in competition.  This ball needs oil, i like the smooth consistent hook to the pocket wich is very predictable.  First time i use it in competition and i shot 770 over 3 games in a bowling ally wich i hate. Shot my 2 lowest series (2x570) in that ally this year and now an amazing 256average

When this ball hits the pocket the pins have no chance.  It's an amazing ball!!

15 lbs, 2-3 pin and top weight

Ball has a strong but even reaction. The ball is never jumpy, even on lanes with drier backends.

This ball is by far the greatest ball i've thrown as far as forgiveness. On a THS, i can miss my mark by 3 boards left or right and the ball will adjust accordingly. The ball's hitting power and carry is yet to disappoint me, and is a great compliment to my Domination.

16 lbs. - 4" pin - right hand tweener, medium speed, pretty good revs.
Drilled kinda like this:
-----.-
--o-o--
------@--o
---o---

Threw a practice game on synthetics, THS (but a little long), fresh.  First got lined up with my Track Freak Out (pearl light-particle, skid/flip), around 10 to 7 with a late break.  For fun, I first threw the Special Agent in the same area for comparison.  Didn't really hook much more than the pearl, but started earlier and hit real flat.  But that's not why I bought it.  Began to move in, and things just got better and better.  Found the sweet spot throwing around 18 to 13, with lots of forgiveness either direction.  Threw one or two way wide and it stormed back and blew apart light hits.

Next, Monday, first league night on wood lanes, THS with flood inside of 10 and snappy back ends.  Typically, because of the flood, most guys are forced to play in the track area 10 to 5, which is usually good for a game-and-a-half until the heads dry out.  My goal with the Special Agent was to be able to find a way to get inside of the track area to avoid the break-down, over/under nightmare.  Started around 16 to 12 and did OK, but I think I was still in just a little too much oil down lane.  The ball was flipping pretty late and not quite getting into a heavy roll.  Still, I was in the pocket on every shot, but left a couple of ten pins and one pocket 7-10.  I found that this ball really likes to hook.  Kept adjusting and found the angle by going around 17 to 10.  The ball would find the friction, make a pretty strong move, and then roll hard.  Again, very forgiving, at least two boards either direction.  Ended up 221-238-300.

As everyone else has said, this ball does not seem to over-react, just a very strong rolling arc.  But you definitely need oil in the front part of the lane.  Three games doesn't make it a great ball, but so far, I'm in love.  Hope it lasts...

Then alleys are used for one league before we get on them, so you have to find where the oil is. I have been using this ball for six weeks in the league & have averaged 215 with it. I had a 193 average. The thing I like about this ball I can go way outside & long where no one has bowled. I start at the center dot on the approach & go out to the #3 or 4 board & go long, then the ball snaps left & hits the pins with a vengance. The pins just don't stand a chance. The hitting power of this ball is devestating & very smooth. I find I have a little larger strike pocket to hit due to the action & hitting power of this ball. Thank you Pete Weber for showing this ball on tv. I have had several top league bowlers ask me about tihs ball. Storm has a real winner with this ball.

I drilled the Special Agent with a leverage drilling and just a touch of thumb weight.  With my low track and high speed, I like the ball to get into a slightly early roll, but yet no roll out on the back end.  The pin is just above and to the right of my fingers, and the CG is 3/4 of the way towards the thumb, about two inches to the right of the vertical centerline between the thumb and the fingers.  I also have a leverage hole that is about an inch to the right of the CG.

I replaced a nearly dead Big One with the Special Agent, as the shell on the Big One finally got too squirrelly to deal with anymore.  Previous to the Big One, I used the Storm XXX Extreme, which I was extremely satisfied with.  No pun intended....

The Special Agent reminds me very much of the XXX Extreme.  The ball has great and continuous back end and has very good mid-lane roll.  The ball is very predictable and I can use it all three games, even with multiple people playing the same line as me.  In other words, I can use textbook adjustments with this ball as the lanes dry out and the ball does not become uncontrollable.  Carry with the Special Agent is pretty good--it throws the pins around on light hits, and keeps the pins reasonably low on solid hits.  I don't leave as many ringing 10s with this ball as I did with either the XXX Extreme or the Big One.

The Special Agent is not as strong as my Columbia Action Max, even thought it is drilled the same.  However, I bought this ball for a medium-oily house, so I can play the same line with this ball as I do at another heavy-oil house with the Action Max.

Provided this ball has the same longevity as the XXX Extreme, I anticipate this ball and I will get along just fine.  So far in league play, I have maintained my 228 average over four series with it (729, 660, 687, 700).

Well, after much anticipation, I finally drilled a Special Agent.

Layout
(15lb 3oz ball with 2.6 oz TW.) I kept the drill pattern deliberately simple - pin over bridge, CG stacked directly below.

Surface
The new R2S solid reactive cover makes this ball roll like a light load particle stock. I tried the ball with the original 2000 grit cover and was very impressed. It cleared the heads quite well and the finish was strong and continuous. I then polished it up, which incidentally looks very handsome on a dark blue and black ball. The polished cover got the ball through the heads very cleanly and elongated the break point. Even polished on long oil, this ball did not squirt or wiggle once through the break point.

Core
The Storm EMC core used in the Agent range provides a controlled motion by way of an ultra low radius of gyration (RG). You drill a long way before you hit the dense material at the centre. This makes the ball arc and roll, rather than skid and flip, meaning more control.

Carry
Pin carry was *very* impressive, although I must confess that the house I played in has good carry. It cracks a rack of pins with more noise than anything I have ever thrown. Even with a new grip and a thumbhole that needed more work, this ball ripped racks, tripped 4's and slapped 10's. It would have thrown some messengers if there were any 10 pins left. (1 stone 10 in six games. )

Recommended Condition
This is the ball for the oil or if you need some more hook. I have only used this ball on a 42ft sport pattern, with the shot inside 20 board. This was about three boards left of my Pyro to the same break point. Even polished, the Special Agent plain outhooked everything in my bags, including a XXXtreme and a Pyro.

Summary
A big hitting ball with controlled motion is a piece I'll pack for everywhere. I can't wait to try this ball out some more.

Cheers,
Jason

I bought this ball after purchasing and throwing the Agent. I am really impressed with this line of bowling balls.

I drilled the special agent identical to my agent. I was looking for a sooner break point, but still wanted good backend motion. I got exactly what I was looking for in this ball. Pin to PAP is 4 and 5/8 Virtual MB is 5 and 7/8. Cover is 500 Abralon.

This ball has a really smooth head and midlane roll with a continuos backend reaction. Even on med to dry lanes, I was able to use this ball and really open up the lanes. On medium to dryer patterns though, speed definately was a factor. If I let up a little, this thing would go hi. However, on med to heavy oil with carrydown, this ball really glided and then made the hard arc to the pocket and exploded the rack. This ball hooks about 5 to 7 feet sooner than the agent yet retains a ton of energy on the back end for good pin explosion. Overall, another great ball from Storm.

Ball revs up early yet is very smooth off the break and hits hard rarely
leaving a corner pin.  I swing this ball out wide on a fresh THS and it holds and archs strongly to the pocket.  Great ball for long oil patterns as well,  just add a little scuffing and you are good to go.  Great ball to go to if you are seeing over/under conditions from a pearl ball,  still retains plenty of energy when the lanes start to dry up,  just move left and keep firing!!

See stats for profile.

Lay Out: 4.5" from PAP (slightly under ring finger), 45deg angle. Large wt hole 3.5" down on the VAL.

Surface: Box or 2000abr.

Purpose: To give myself a arsenal ball that I could use on longer oil/higher volume patterns.

Observations: I have thrown this on a variety of shots mainly ones where there is a higher volume or longer distance. I have also thrown this on some medium distance shots (37-39 feet) as well. I threw it on our state tournament condition and also on a couple of PBA Experience patterns. This ball gets up off the medium patterns pretty consistantly. The longest I have thrown it on was 39 ft Chameleon pattern and it was still too much ball with this lay out. On our house shot when I get deep enough in the soup and send it away from the pocket, it comes out of the dry pretty strong and holds energy well. I am able to stay with this ball for a lot longer than most aggressive balls that I have drilled in the past.

Final thoughts: Storm nailed it on this reaction for the tweeners. Quite honestly, this ball reminds me of some of the Brunswick balls that I have thrown as it is strong in the mid lane and can be quite continuous on the right patterns in the back end of the lane. I jokingly tell my friends that this ball is more Brunswickier than some of the Big B's latest releases. I have not hit the surface with any more aggressive of abralon than the 2000. It will be interesting to see how this ball does now that our PBA experience league is hitting the 41 and 44 foot shots the next 6 weeks. I will update then.

Drilled this ball with the pin under the ring finger and a medium hole down making it about a 5" pin.  Left the surface OOB because I wanted an early reaction with a smoooth down lane move.  I rarely see enough oil other than tournament play to use it, but when it matches up I really like the reaction shape.  I was looking for control with this drilling and surface, so more direct angles with less hand provide the best entry angle.  For longer patterns and higher oil volumes, this core/cover combination is really good.

Hi,
Just purchased this new toy....15# and had it drilled stacked leverage...bowled on fresh synthetics but not known as a high scoring house...used my Robo Rule the 1st few shots to get loose...now the Robo has some games on it but still for a particle ball it still has some bite to it....lined up on 23(righty) out to 13 board the Robo just couldn't get back to the pocket(stroker)...tried the same line with the Special and flush pocket...1st thing i noticed was how straight the ball gets down the lane and the turn is more of a continous motion not snap..now couple things here...being a stroker and playing more of the middle than normal, i was impressed that when the ball made its turn there was no stopping it...now true new ball syndrome but also keep in mind were talking reactive vs particle...standing still on 23, tried a few shots out further...8-9 board and came back even stronger..make sense since a bit more away from the puddle....but most of the houses i'll be bowling league will be a softer pattern...and thats a scarey thought...might just knock the sheen off it on the easier houses and see what happens...but 1st thoughts are that really impressed with the ball....1st storm ball since the ill advised Trauma Response

This is my favorite rolling ball. Its smooth and very strong. Grabs to early on shorter patterns but great for medium and long. Its has a very versitle coverstock
that plays great polished or sanded. Its got med length and a smooth strong move toward the pocket. ( Look at bwp for specs). A great ball from storm.

I have 2 Special Agents currently . Both are drilled with the pin 4 1/2 inches from my PAP with the cg kicked at 45 degrees. #1 is pin under ring ,box finish with no weight hole. #3 is pin above fingers ,box finish with a weight hole on my axis. So far i have only thrown them on a broken down house shot but the reaction has been phenomenal! Both balls clear the heads with ease  and make a strong controlled move to the pocket down lane. #1 obviously picks up a couple feet earlier and is smoother on the back end than #2 but they give you a great 1-2 punch. Will post a review of the Attitude Shift i just finished drilling after league monday.

This is probably the most predictable ball I've ever thrown.  The cover is fairly strong and the ball will cover lots of boards.  My ball lost some of its reaction and I tried all the methods for oil extraction/rejuvenation, etc. I ended up polishing the ball and it makes a great 3rd game ball.  Overall this is one of the better balls on the market currently.

This ball was a big shock to me when I first bowled with it. I was bowling on med-high oil patern and the ball was giving me ALOT of hook. I was bowling from far left arrow towards far right and back towards the pocket. it was crazy. i couldnt throw at first arrow like i normally do it would hook to much and completely miss. But once you learn how and were to throw it it is a GREAT ball i completely love it I threw my high game with it.
