Sam Cooper. Roto Grip Amateur Staff. The Storm Summit Ascent is essentially the “do everything” bowling ball. We have the Summit AI Core wrapped in the old faithful R2S Solid cover that has been a staple in the storm line for years. The high differential of the core with medium strength cover will allow this ball to be used on a wide variety of patterns. When I saw this ball on the rack in a storm video for another ball I was immediately curious what it was. The original Summit was a good ball when I really needed to control the lane. To me the original summit could be too strong for certain environments. The Ascent is and will be one of the most versatile bowling balls on the market.

I have tested this ball on a few different conditions already and it just seems to do the right thing each time. The Ascent is also good to throw in practice to see what the lane is giving you and can be used to make moves based off of what you see. When bowling on sport I usually do hit the cover with a 2000 pad to get a more consistent read. I have also let this ball shine up a bit and use it for majority of league nights. This ball gives you that clean and smooth look for a solid bowling ball. To me this ball is right in the middle of the bag. Stronger than my IQ Tour, that is essentially what this ball is a stronger IQ Tour solid. But weaker than Sublime Focus or Optimum Idol. The Ascent is on a similar strength level to the ION Pro just a difference in how they react in my opinion. Between the ION Pro and the Summit Ascent, these are two of the best balls out now for any level of bowler!

COMMENTS

The Storm Summit Ascent is a formidable addition to any bowler's arsenal. This ball's key feature is its strong hook potential (0.056), making it ideal for those tricky lanes with heavy oil patterns. The reactive coverstock (R2S Solid) ensures consistent traction, providing a powerful backend finish. The asymmetrical core design (Centripetal HD-AI) offers exceptional versatility, allowing bowlers to experiment with various drilling layouts to suit their style.

Drilled mine 5.5 x 3.75 x 1 in terms of performance, the ball delivers a smooth and predictable roll, which is crucial for maintaining control and accuracy at the breakpoint. Playing in my comfort zone (in the track) the Storm Summit Ascent is particularly well-suited all 3 games of league for bowlers who can migrate left/right as the THS transition. I can play a more aggressively as the R2S cover allows a smoother traction in oil with less burnup. The AI core will provide the extra carry of the corner pins. I have used the Ascent as my #1 or 2 ball on the fresh.

Overall, if you're looking to elevate your game with a high-performance, reliable bowling ball, the Storm Summit Ascent will be a top contender. It combines innovation with practicality, making it a valuable investment for both competitive and casual bowlers.

Storm Summit Ascent Ball Review by PJ Haggerty

The Summit Ascent from Storm is the newest addition to the Master line.  After using it on several different patterns and surface, I’m thoroughly impressed.  The coverstock is R2S solid, under the hood is the AI core, and with that combination, the Summit Ascent is a winner in my bag.  It’s been a perfect compliment to the Ion Pro Max and the Harsh Reality Pearl as well.

I’ve drilled two so far and have had a ton of success with one.  It’s mapped out as 4.75 x 4 x 2.5.  This puts the pin above my ring finger with a stacked CG.  I threw it out of the box to get some oil in the coverstock and it rolls really, really well.  When it’s time to get out of my Ion Pro Max or XCell, the Ascent provides length with a slow(ish) response time, but most importantly, a very smooth and predictable response time.  It’s worked best on those medium-length patterns where there isn’t a ton of hold and you need a ball to not go sideways off the end of the pattern.  A close comparison would be a Phaze 2, but I believe the Ascent is cleaner through the front portion of the lane compared to a Phaze 2.

If you need an extremely predictable ball that can be used on the short, medium, or long patterns, the Summit Ascent should be the next ball you drill!

This is THE Goldilocks ball for me. My home center has an older high friction lane surface. This ball bridges the gap between too much hook in the Phase II and not enough hook in the original !Q. It’s the ball I choose when I don’t necessarily need control from balls like my Tour Dynamix, ION Pro or !Q Ruby. I drilled mine with a strong pin down layout to stay on line longer and still gets it confidently around the corner. This one is exactly what I’d hoped it would be.

Storm Summit Ascent is all about control!
Review by Chris M. on 27 Nov 2024review stating Storm Summit Ascent is all about control!Bowlers Info: RH tweener, PAP 4-5/8 x 3/4 up, 380 RPM, 13* of Axis tilt, 60* of Axis Rotation

Ball Layout: 55 x 4 x 40
VLS: 4 x 4-1/2 x 2-1/2

Finish: OOB with touch of compound

The new Storm Summit Ascent was designed to provide bowlers consistent and predictable control on those fresh patterns and trickier patterns.Read more about review stating Storm Summit Ascent is all about control! Complete with the R2S Solid finished at 4000 grit, this ball gets into an early roll with the 2. 46 RG reading the midlane and provide bowlers a controlled, strong arc motion when lanes are not ready to open up. I went with a 4” pin to get into an early, strong flaring roll to play the outside part of the lane without the ball getting too offline but have enough to get up the hill to the pocket. Definitely smaller piece as compared to other solids in the line which is a great alternative in the arsenal. Looking for a controlled piece, give the Summitt Ascent a try!

Summit Ascent • Storm • Master Line • Centripetal HD A.I. Core • Coverstock •R2S Solid • Finish  4000 grit Abralon • Weight 14 lbs. • RG 2.46 • Differential .056 • Layout 90 x 2 x 45 • One Handed • left Handed •  PAP 5 15/16 Left and 1 3/16 up • Rev Rate 425 rpm • Average ball speed 14.5 mph
The Summit Ascent has an amazing combination of core and cover with the proven Centripetal HD A.I. core, and R2S solid cover. This core and coverstock combination has produced the most forgiving Summit to date with the Summit Ascent! Let’s talk about what I have seen form the Summit Ascent. I get a smooth predictable motion throughout the lane. Where this motion stands out the most is in the mid-lane, and how consistent the shape stays, but don't let that motion fool you. The Centripetal HD A.I. is also reading the lane early to give you this smooth mid-lane motion. while the R2S cover is giving you the forgiveness to stay on line with your target, because it is a clean cover. What I saw down-lane is how well the Summit Ascent retained its power where it is needed most at the pins. The Centripetal HD A.I. core and the R2S cover helps with strikes having a crisp impact at the pocket. This also helps to carry those lighter pocket hits too. In conclusion I Was quite impressed with the Summit Ascent. Storm has done an excellent job of combining the Centripetal HD-A.I. Core and the R2S Solid coverstock. I feel this is a winning core and cover combination makes the Summit Ascent a superb choice for any type of bowler and, this could be a good bench mark ball for most league bowlers. Stop by your local pro shop today and get your Summit Ascent. It's well worth it!! Sean Gruetter aka Madhatter bowling storm pro shop staff #Stormnation

The Summit Ascent from Storm is the newest addition to the Master line. I have personally loved all the balls in the Summit line and this one might be the best of the bunch. For me, this is the first ball out of my bag, as it provides me with length through fronts, does not overreact off the friction, but still provides plenty of backend to carry the corners. This ball fits perfectly between the Phaze 2 and the IQ tour for me and will be in bag for both league and tournaments due to its versatility.

I drilled up my SUMMIT ASCENT with the trusty 60 x 4.5 x 35 layout. I only got to throw it at box surface as I ended up giving it to a teammate when I dropped to 14 lbs.

I noticed that it had a very rolly type of reaction and was very similar to an oldie but goodie that I first drilled when I came on SPI staff in the SPECIAL AGENT. The SPECIAL was my go-to ball as a benchmark and reliable ball to keep it in play if there was oil and the lanes were touchy. The ASCENT showed a lot of those same characteristics, and I will put holes in another one in 14 lb once I get all of the gear I had drilled back up in 14 lbs.

Drill this one up if you want control on more medium to slightly slicker lane conditions or a good all-around first ball out of the bag.

The new ball in the Storm Master Line is the Summit Ascent.  This is the 3rd ball of Summit series.  The Summit Ascent uses the Centripetal HD packed inside the A.I. core.  The Summit is wrapped in R2S solid coverstock.  The original Summit had a little early rolling motion, the Summit Peak with the pearl cover was a strong rolling pearl.  The Ascent with the R2S is perfect combo of cover and core.  I drilled mine pin up 4 x 4 x 2 and added Storm Step 2.  The Ascent is so predictable.  It's not the hockey stick reaction, very controllable arcy motion.  Think a stronger IQ solid motion. I like it a lot on a wet dry house pattern as it is just strong enough in the oil, but doesn't bounce of the dry.  2 handers like it also as with their higher rev rate it just doesn't over react downlane.  Great addition to the Storm Line.

Review:
The Storm Summit Ascent is an exceptional choice for bowlers looking for a strong, reliable, and versatile ball that can thrive on medium to heavy oil. It’s a great option for players who want a ball that reads the midlane early but doesn't lose energy on the backend. With its ability to blend wet/dry patterns and provide consistent, powerful pin carry, the Summit Ascent is a valuable addition to any arsenal. Whether you're looking for a benchmark ball or something to handle fresh heavy oil, the Summit Ascent delivers on all fronts.

The Storm Summit Ascent features the highly successful R2S solid reactive coverstock and combines it with the Centripetal HD AI core.  At 15 pounds the RG is a low 2.46 with a differential of .056.  The Summit Ascent gets into an early roll with its low RG but the R2S solid coverstock is still clean through the front part of the lane.  This ball won’t wow you with how much It hooks, or how sharp the backend reaction is, but this ball will keep you in the pocket the majority of the night.  This is my new benchmark ball.  It just provides that predictable ball motion that makes it easier to navigate through the transition and the AI core provides the extra pin carry for when you have those off pocket hits.  It is much cleaner and more angular than the original Summit.  This ball is a must for league and tournament bowlers alike.

Definitely a gap filler in my arsenal. I drilled it 50x4x30. Cleaner then my Phaze 2 with more angle. A very usable reaction bowling on older HPLs with lots of friction. Allows me to stay in the same ball the whole league and in fact gets better as the night goes on when i can get left with it. A great complement to the other 2 Summit releases.
