Virtual Gravity Nano Pearl

- Description: Nanotechnology is the study of manipulating  matter on an atomic and molecular scale. As we have mentioned before, a  breakthrough in coverstock technology rarely happens due to the complex nature  of chemistry and polymer science. But Storm’s research and development team is  committed to maintaining the ‘pole position’ in bowling innovation, so it’s no  surprise that the new NRG cover has again taken the world by storm.
The  magnification of the surface of the new NRG coverstock shows you the increased  surface texture between the peaks and valleys, as well as the more aggressive  edges on the top of the peaks! Thank you nanotechnology!
Continuing to move  forward with the new technology breakthrough, our new release will glide through  the heads more easily than the original Virtual Gravity Nano yet still handle  heavy oil.
The Shape-Lock HD Core which powered the original Virtual Gravity  Nano produced a fast-revving action that helped bowlers create more ball motion  and total hook. While the new nanotech cover provided a lot of sizzle, unless  it’s paired with a quality weight block or core you will never see the  advantages of either.
In looking for different ways to expand the benefits  of nanotechnology, we explored several additive options to the base NRG  coverstock and found that adding mica to this shell material created a cleaner  glide through the heads without sacrificing any of its ability to handle larger  amounts of oil. You’ll see increased entry angle with the new Virtual Gravity  Nano Pearl with simultaneous amplified oil traction usually reserved for  textured solids.

Lay Out: 4 3/4" from PAP at 90*   PAP  angle and 25*   VAL    angle. Dual angle measurement would be   90/4.75/25. The  pin   ended   up  1" above my ring finger with the CG tucked toward the center-of-grip. The 90* angle put the lightning bolt in my thumb. I had a Gravity Shift drilled this exact way that I liked for the movement at the back end of the pattern.

Surface: I am box  finish which  is 1500 Reacta-Shine. I may touch this up with a 4000 abrlaon pad as on harder shots, this surface is over/under.

Purpose: I wanted to drill up a ball comparable to a favorite Gravity Shift from a couple of seasons ago. I was able to change the surface on this Gravity quite a bit and use it on patterns that were in the 37-42' range depending on surface roughness. The Gravity was my go to ball when longer/higher volume patterns started to open up in the track area.

Lane Condition   Observations: I have thrown this on our   house pattern and on a US Open qualifier that was 40' flat so far. I love the reaction of this ball. Strong but  predictable. Our house condition is 38 feet and they run two patterns of  it with one being slightly less volume. Our center is a huge open play  center so they run the lower volume shot on weekends for the open play  lanes. I noticed good pick up with this ball and very strong controlled  move off the spot. I would rate this a quick response in box condition.  The response might go down some with a smoother surface. I may also experiment to see what 2000 abr looks like on a longer pattern or more thru the 'soup' on a house shot. The flatter pattern is where this surprised me. I pulled it when I was out of the number just to get some lane time and it was nice left of a broken down track area. I could get it to push the front easily, but knew it would make the corner every time.

Other Ball   Comparisions: I did get to throw it  some side by side with my Virtual Energy and Nomad Dagger. The Nano Pearl is stronger off  the spot compared to the Dagger and about the same look as the VE. The VE is at 4000 abr and is also a "strong ball-laid out weak" so it holds a lot of energy at the break point. The Dagger pushed the front part of the lane much easier and should be a "ball down" when the Nano Pearl gets too jumpy at the spot.
 
 
Final       Thoughts: The VG Nano Pearl plays to me just like the Gravity Shift did a few years ago with an updated cover. This would make sense since the RG & Diff are the same along with the core. The updated cover does give it the grab to make it across the oil pattern. What I am noticing is it may be too jumpy in box condition for flatter patterns. Touching the cover with 2000 or 4000 (depending on oil volume) may be what the doctor ordered to get it in control again. I am thinking of drilling a second one with the pin in the ring finger with the bolt swung out to 45* to see if that is more controllable on patterns which don't give much help in the middle.

You can't go to a league night nowadays without running into a number of bowlers throwing the Nano.  I have seen  many people using them of all facets of the game but I always saw them go away after a game or so but now they don't have to.  The introduction of the Nano Pearl was inevitable and everyone (including myself) looked forward to it.  With this sought after introduction bowlers no longer have to sacrifice the hitting power they are used to while throwing the Nano. This ball clears the heads with ease and still picks up a great midlane roll, just like its predecessor.  However, the backend reaction is much stronger and a much sharper.  Some bowlers did not like the additional length the Pearl gives them forcing them to move further right than comfortable with and for them I would urge you to lightly scuff the surface with a 4000 abralon pad. The pearl coverstock will still allow you to get through the heads cleanly and will also allow this ball to handle any possibility of carry down.  HITTING POWER!!!!!!  AND AMAZING ANGLE !!!!!!   What more could you want out of a ball.  Keep up the great work Storm.

Well, if you're looking for a lot of back end with a really strong read off of friction, this is the ball for
you. This ball is at it's best when in the hands of the rotationally challenged in a situation where they
need to create "big boy" angle. Visually this ball is stunning and I love the new scent! It was the best selling
high performance ball in our shops the month it came out and is getting solid reviews from those in the center
in which I spend most of my time. Another HIT from Storm!

For a pearlized ball, this ball hooks! Mine is drilled just slightly right of neutral  (pin and CG placement), and the ball snaps off the backend with more total reaction than anything else I currently carry. It also stores energy much better than most solid-coverstock bowling balls currently in production for me, leading to better carry on the longer oil patterns. As a player with a low axis rotation, solid bowling balls tend to burn-up for me creating carry issues, but this ball quickly became my go-to ball on longer length patterns, and the amount that it hooks truly surprised me. I rarely find a need for a solid bowling ball anymore. It still hooks plenty, and it stores energy significantly better. I can move as deep as I would like with this ball as the lanes open up, and I know that this ball with continue to recover and hit the pins with enough velocity to carry the corners. My experiences with this ball support it as being rated one of the best bowling balls of 2011.

The Nano Pearl is one of the strongest hitting bowling balls I have ever thrown. I was thoroughly impressed with the amount of power that the ball transmits through the pins. My Nano Pearl has a 4 inch pin and is drilled with the CG slightly kicked out. The ball glides through the deteriorating heads with ease while still making a strong motion on the backend. In addition, it is a great option to start a tournament. I have had success with the ball on all pattern ranges from 37-42 feet. However, because of the size of the core and the strength of the Nano shell, the ball for me is best suited for patterns over 39 feet. The Nano pearl is a great fit between my virtual gravity and my reign supreme. I would recommend it to any bowler looking for the strong movement of a Virtual Gravity or VG Nano with even greater pin action and power in the pins.

I waited a bit to buy the Virtual Gravity Nano Pearl but am really impressed with the ball.

Held off on drilling one until a month ago. Layout is pin down with CG offset with no balance hole. Took the surface to 2000 Abralon with polish.

Have thrown the ball on four different THS’s,0 with varying degrees of friction, and one sport condition since buying the ball.

Let’s start with the house shots. On the typical versions the ball is very close to a benchmark ball. I have higher speed and what I consider average revs – 17.5/400 – and the ball is very clean through the fronts and has a sharp, but controllable, move in the mid lane and backend. Had an issue with the ball pushing too far on a slicker pattern but that’s not what the surface is for. At the drier house, I had to ball down from the Nano Pearl after one game.

On the sport pattern it was a little different. The pattern was a modified National team shot – admittedly with more friction in the back – and the ball worked great. Didn’t over-read off the edge of the pattern and was consistent and smooth through the pins. Was able to start 11-7 and gradually move in. Took two games on the fresh before having to switch balls.

Overall, the Nano Pearl looks like a versatile ball that you can adjust and use on multiple surfaces. Thinking of drilling one pin up to see the difference.
