1/2 inch pin placement with X Factor, is that ok?
« on: April 29, 2004, 04:07:41 AM »
Hi,

I’m a beginner in terms of the technical side of bowling.

Just bought a X-Factor today.  I want it to go long and flip, the ball has a ½ inch pin placement, and the pin, cg and mass bias (RAD) are not in line.  Top weight is 1.75 ounce.

Ball was drilled with the pin slightly above and to the right of ring finger (right-handed), and the mass bias (RAD) swinging to the right (about 1 inch to the right of thumb hole)

Pin is 3.75 inches from PAP.  Balance hole is below the perpendicular axis line.

Question:

1.   Â½ inch pin placement, is that ok?
2.   I was told by someone that a ‘good’ ball should has the pin, cg, and mass bias in line, but my driller said with the drilling above, I should still get the reaction (long and flip) that I’m looking for (even with them not in line, and the small pin placement), who is correct?

Many thanks!!

p.s.   I haven’t had the chance to use the ball yet.

Balls that Are dynamically spun to find the MB the CG and MB and Pin may not be in a straight line all the time. There is usually depending on the manufacturer a limit to how far off the CG may be but generally not a bad thing.

KULAYGATAS,

Thanks for the input.

I still haven't really used the X-Factor yet, but from the few times that I used it, it seems that you are right, I have the exact reaction as you described.  It just doesn't seem to have that 'long skid & hard flip' that I'm looking for.  Waste of money??  Maybe......

A few others members on this site told me that they prefer small pin placement, cos it gives them smoother break-point, well I just don't like that kind of reaction.  Doesn't really match up my game.

Oh well, learning experience I guess, next time when I buy a ball, I'll know what to look for...

It hurts my wallet though, that ball's really expansive.
