Ordered a Code Black Today
« on: February 14, 2017, 12:36:59 PM »
Title says it all........time for a new toy!   :P

I've decided on replacing my Snap Lock with the Code Black....

I don't feel like the Snap Lock is a bad ball by any means but I do feel it is a bit condition specific and there is a more optimal motion I can get out of my asymmetrical pearl spot in my arsenal.  Snap Lock has a bit more mid-lane than I'd like here so I'm hoping the R2S cover will help remedy that.  Oh.......and all that diff!  ;D  ;D  ;D

With the Rocket Ship (at a 1000 grit surface), the Eternal Cell (at 2000), Code Black and Hectic I feel like I have a decent variety of motions for the upcoming tournament patterns...

I personally didnt like it.....but not every ball fits every bowler...

Why? Just curious
It was very over/under for me even with surface.

I absolutely love my code black (pin down) and would recommend it to highly to any similar type of bowler to myself.  I'm quite a low rev player (250) and therefore tend to use a more straighter line than my cranking brethren (with a league average of 195).  I have recently tested the ball in a few tournaments in Germany on a number of different patterns (Broadway, Beaten path and Stonehenge) and the carry was absolutely fantastic; what was more impressive was that most of the other bowlers were struggling with their balls and I increased my average by over 16 - 25 pins!  I'm now looking at upgrading my Hyper Cell and Crux to a Sure Lock to complement it and my Highroad Pearl when it is released next month. If it impresses like the Code Black then I'll be like a dog with 2 *****!  I'm so tempted to buy another to save for the future, but common sense tells me to wait until it comes down in price.  But I am so glad that I got this one!!

Waiting for the Sure Lock (use top 2 and this when I get it for League and tournaments only; others are for training).

Further thoughts to my original post in this thread after practicing a bit with it yesterday:

- My initial disappointment in it stems from the fact that I thought it would hook a little more and have a harder response to friction.  I expected it to be the "first ball out of my bag strong" for most nights in my current league and it just hasn't lived up that.  It's close but not quite there (low rev lefty problems)...

- It fits well between my Phaze II and HyRoad.  Part of my disappointment in the Code Black may be due to the sheer love I have for the Phaze II.  I have never had a strong symmetrical solid match up as well as the Phaze II.  I was expecting to feel the same way about the Code Black and it did not happen instantaneously.

I don't want to say too much as I've only got 1.5 games on it (and some practice in another house) but initial impressions are (at 2000+Xtra Shine):

-QUICK response to friction
-Definitely needs some friction.  On a fresh synthetic wet/dry pattern the ball sailed thru the heads and was too late at the break point to make a true read so I went with the Rocket Ship.  Once the pattern broke down I was able to move left and go to the CB.

I did hit the ball since with a used 2000 pad so I'm going to get a look at it with that.  It's a different motion but one I'm sure I'll be able to use once I get used to it.  I'm going to tinker around with the cover some.  It is definitely a transition ball though.
