2017 update: Marvel Pearl Replacement
« on: February 20, 2017, 09:35:25 AM »
I know this topic came up in the past, but just wanted to ask this question since a lot of new equipment has come out since. Has anyone found a good replacement to the Marvel Pearl? A versatile strong pearl that has been the centerpiece of my arsenal.

Just to clarify, I'm not looking to buy a NIB Marvel Pearl for $200+ nor interested in buying a used one. Although I agree with "whatever works, keep going with it", I'm looking to keep an open mind and moving on to newer equipment and not become overly attached to one particular ball/model. Can be any company and can even be an asymmetric core. Thanks.

Code Black is about as close as you're going to get, though it's asymmetric and you may have to drill it a bit weaker.  I noted in my video that for me it feels like an asymmetric Marvel Pearl.

I've seen some people say the Code Black and I've seen some others say the Dare Devil.

I would personally look towards the Dare Devil as I think the Amped pearl cover is close strength wise but it is a little more angular than the Marvel Pearl

How is the timeless not in the question. The marvel centripetal core is there inside all of that outer core stuff, look!

But doesn't the Marvel have a very low RG core while the Timeless and the Code Black have a relatively high RG core?
Doesn't that make a big difference?
Plus the Marvel's R2X coverstock is earlier than the R2S. The Timeless's hybrid cover helps but not nearly enough, I think.

Seems like the Marvel is/was considerably different, smoother, earlier and more powerful than the other 2.

Code Black is low RG. I would think an Inception Pearl. Low RG with some midlane read and from what I hear, the cover on that is R2X.

Storm (http://www.stormbowling.com/codeblack) says the coverstock is R2S and RG is 2.50. Marvel was 2.48; not a huge difference but a difference. The R2X (almost a particle in nature, as shown by its earliness even when polished) is a more significant difference.

If true about the Inception Pearl, that could the inheritor of the Marvel "throne".

I think since it's 900G and not Storm/RG labels slapped on the side, it'll go under the radar a bit though.

would a snap lock, drilled to be a little earlier roll match up with the marvel pearl?

Don't really know the difference between R2X and R3S, but the cores both have an RG of 2.48.  the diff is 0.050 vs 0.054 and granted the Snap Lock is a asymmetric, maybe its not the best of choices

What do you think about the Inception Pearl's symmetrical beother in the Truth Pearl?

Inception Pearl definitely fits the bill, I thought we were talking about staying within Storm/RG.  It's all about shapes for me, once you figure out the ball with the correct shape, there's a lot you can do with a layout and maybe a weighthole to get it close.  I still say Code Black because the shape is close enough, plus the .058 diff more than makes up the .02 difference in RG, and also the cover difference in my opinion.  The Code Black has a monster of a core in it and since the Jackals got banned, the 2.50 RG .058 core makes it about the strongest on the market, it flares off the planet.  It's definitely the closest in the Storm/RG lineup UNLESS you get a 2nd batch or later Phaze, no idea how people aren't onto that ball yet.  Yes the first batch sucked, second batch IS THE MARVEL PEARL.  Strong cover, only core difference is .051 diff instead of .052, it's early and it's rolly.  All the first batch Phazes should be gone.  I'll see if I can dig up a video.  My wife has a second batch Phaze and it's night and day different than the first one.

Yes, the newer Phazes are phenomenal from what I have seen.  One of my teammates uses his constantly.  It is his get out of jail ball.
