299 with my Rapid Fire Pearl!
« on: October 05, 2008, 04:14:44 PM »
I've been struggling with this piece over the last couple of weeks since I picked it up. I tried it oob, 4000 polished, 2000 polished, 4000 sheen, nothing worked! Then I decided to go more radical with a new 500 abralon pad and a touch of snake oil and WOW! I had almost unlimited recovery and much better midlane read than before. I took this ball out for the first time in league and go 299-745 with a solid 10 (and I mean 6 pin screaming over the top of the 10 pin type solid). I'm really surprised Storm doesn't put a lower grit on their pearls from the factory, but that's just an opinion.

twister,

Great game!

Well back in the day...2001-2004 they (Storm) undercut most of their coverstocks at 1500 grit then added a coat of polish.

Nowadays, they go to higher grit (#'s) and less polish to promote a more consistent read through transition.

Seems to me that some bowling balls that are factory polished just need to be roughed up to crack the polish and knock some of it off before you can get a more consistent reaction.
