2nd Dimension & VE or VG?
« on: October 04, 2009, 02:39:55 PM »
I''m currently looking at all of these balls... curious what everyone''s experience is with them. I picked up a 2nd dimension and not sure which other ball would compliment it within my arsenal. I don''t know much about the difference in the VE and VG. Which ball would you choose to go along with the 2nd Dimension, and why?

Thanks.

Okay... perhaps I should be more specific.

I have a 2nd Dimension on the way, and I'm considering a VG or VE. Which of the two balls would best compliment the 2nd dimension, and why? I'm not looking for a vote, but an honest opinion on why one ball is better than the other in your personal experience.

With you already having the 2nd dimension, IMO the Virtual Gravity would be my choice. the dimension is polished VG is dull. Leave them alone and you have a nice one two punch.

No ball is better or worse - they just meet a specific need.

Assuming your question is based on leaving the ball at box finish the Virtual Gravity will start rolling earlier than a Virtual Energy, while the VE will give you more length and more angle in the backend than a VG.  When you compare the two to a Second Dimension the 2nd will have more length than both with a similar angle to the pocket as the VE (not exact, similar).

If you already have a 2nd I would recommend the VG for a completely different look.  A VE will be a bit stronger than the 2nd but probably too close in a 2 ball arsenal.

I want to ask the real question here --> what are you bowling? Are you setting up a league arsenal or picking balls for tournament play?

the VE is a very strong late rolling ball if you leave it OOB finish. alot of backend and alot of angle..i have it and it rips but wont roll up as early as the VG all depends on what you want the ball to do...

I did end up picking up a VG to go along with the 2nd Dimension.

I haven't yet had a chance to punch the VG, but I now have 4 games on the 2nd Dimension. I must say, the 2nd Dimension doesn't have quite the hook that I expected. It actually ended up hooking less than my 8-yr old Storm Power Bolt, which is okay because that made it fill a gap in my arsenal for drier conditions. Now I haven't had a chance to throw it on dry, so I don't fully know what to expect as of yet.

I've been a BIG fan of my Power Bolt for some time, so I don't want to ditch it, but it was tough to determine where it would lie within the new Storm lineup. I feel like I finally have it placed, but I'm a bit surprised where it ended up.

I am currently only bowling league, but I'm trying to get myself ready for tournaments later this season. I'm sure it will be rough to start with, as I haven't bowled tournaments for some time, however, I'm excited for the challenge. I'll keep reading posts around here to give me a bit of knowledge before just jumping in head first.

Thanks for all the help!

A non-hooking 2D, that's impressive. I am curious as to how its mapped.

You know, my impression of the 2nd Dimension is that the reaction is a little better if you put some surface on the ball.  I didn't like the one I had when it was shiny.   Don't be afraid to put a little surface on this one.

I don't believe that I stated anywhere that the 2D didn't hook... simply that it hooked less than I anticipated on the conditions I have been able to throw it on.

I might try to alter the surface slightly, but then I expect it will be too close to my Power Bolt, and there would be no need to have 2 similar balls in the bag. I think as it stands it will be a great ball with a bit less oil on the lanes.

My 2D hooks a ton. It gets down the lane really clean and then it's a quick, sharp move left followed by continuation right through the head pin. I'm really impressed by the reaction of the 2D. It rev's with ease. I have it OOB and I usually don't use it until the last game of the set.

eltaco. How is your's laid out? Are you using it on a fresh shot?
