I don't think there is a scotch pad that's as week as 2000, let alone 4000. I want to say the finest is the white scotch brite at 1200-1500? And that's if you do it by hand. If you go to the "miscellaneous-bowling related" thread on this site, you'll see the 2nd "sticky". It's "BR unofficial FAQ"-(Frequently Asked Questions}. Click on that & scroll down until you find the "scotch pad = abralon info.

The finest grit Scotch Brite is the gold ones. The replaced the old white ones. They are equivalent to roughly 1200 grit. Red ones are about 320 and the Grey ones are like 800.

Sorry I can't find where you are telling me to find this info!!

the gold pads are totally different than the white pads. I never really found a use for the white pads.

I wasnt implying they were the same, just that the gold ones replaced the white ones. I paint cars and use them for scuffing panels to blend and the white ones were useless. Thats why 3M came out with the gold ones. They will tell you its the same grit, but they arent even close.

Yeah, yeah I totally agree with you. The gold pads have a different texture, totally different product.
