It sounds like you may be using the wrong PAP positioning. In my experience, if your track is only 1/4 of an inch from both your fingers and thumb, you would be closer to a 5 1/4 or maybe a 5 1/2 by 0 or maybe only 1/8 up or down. If you are only getting 3 1/2 inches of track flare, with the rings being close to 3/8 wide, you probably aren't getting as many revs on the ball as you think. You may want to move your feet a little right, and your mark a little left (opposite if you are a lefty) so that you can "square up" your angles to find the pocket.
Also, your axis of rotation is pretty important on a ball like the Gravity. It uses a low RG strong asymmetric core, and you may find that your ball is rolling towards the pins too much. An example of this is Randy Pedersen, as compared to wanting more axis rotation, like PDW. This helps your change of direction once the ball comes out of the oil.
