Marvel and Prodigy
« on: February 15, 2011, 11:55:19 AM »
Drilled up a marvel and it was stronger than I expected, so I'm going to drill a prodigy to use when my marvel is too much. Should I use the same layout that I have on my marvel, which is pin under ring or should I go pin up on the prodigy?

Same layout would give you a natural step down as they are in the same "family". Really probably depends on what you typically bowl on.

I agree.  However, I drilled my Marvel 60* 5 1/4" 25 and my Prodigy 65 5 1'/4" 35 just for a little more seperation, and it has worked perfectly for me.

I'm going to be the contrarian here. I have a Prodigy and Marvel, drilled identically. OOB, the Prodigy saw the front of the lane more than the Marvel. It took a lot of smoothing with a 4k abralon pad for me to get the Prodigy through the fronts with any energy left, whereas the Marvel did not. Perhaps its the ETM in the cover of the Prodigy, I had similar issues with the Dimension/2D. The OP may need to make surface adjustments to one or both to accomplish the separation he is looking for.

As to the OP's specific question, the answer would be, if he needs mostly to clear the fronts better, the same drilling with a surface adjustment would be ok, if he needs more length and angle overall and the ball is bogging down in the mids, I would recommend a pin up drilling.

So what would I see if I went pin down on the prodigy and changed the surface to 2000 and applied reacta shine to it?

Cleaner through the fronts, with a similar motion but stronger backend.
