Choosing a Masterline Ball
« on: September 26, 2005, 01:09:46 AM »
I've been looking at a few balls.  I found goods deals on the following.  Fear Factor, x factor, triple xfactor, triple xtreme, and x factor ace.  I bowl about 17-19 mph, med revs, and would probably rate as a tweener.  Oil is med to med heavy.  Depends if on league or house.  Any suggestions of what ball and what drilling pattern to use.  I like a lot of hook.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks,

Could you please explain where you want to ball to have its hook please...hook in oil, alot of backend, etc.?

Oh a ball with a 3-3/8ths pin won't necessarily hook the most, but it will have the core in its most unstable position which will create its maximum amount of flare.  Flare doesn't translate into backend hook (snap) which is why I asked my first question.

Depending on the relative truth of your revs and tweener self-evaluation, a Triple X Factor or an Ace would probably serve you best. An Xtreme might be need with polish, if you're really a low rev bowler. It's also better to indicate what you're using now, how it's drilled and exactly how it is not working for you.

The drilling would depend on your delivery specs, as Goof indicated already.

Forget the Fear Factor, as it's too problematic. The original X-Factor is for medium-light to medium oil patterns for the average bowler.

Currently bowling with a hot rod pro stock.  not sure on the drilling.  I will have to check the pattern and measurements.  I know the fingertips are slight below the pin and to the left.  Might be relative to layout 1 for storm.  Drilled for right handed.  Just hooks too late.  Tried scotchbriting to hook earlier but didn't work well enough.  I used to bowl cranker style with my lighter balls but have moved down to more of a tweener since increasing the weight.  I appreciate the feedback guys.  Thanks

I don't think you can beat an original X-Factor.  The Xtreme is kinda problematic too, even though I liked mine.  The Triple X is too flippy, and the Ace doesn't hook nearly as much as it's supposed to.  If you can get your hands on an original X, you'd better do it.
