core confusion...
« on: April 12, 2012, 09:36:09 PM »
Hey guys, need some help. At the risk of asking a dumb question, I'm trying to find out which core is stronger. The RAD+ that was in the Paradigm Domination or the N.O.S. core in the 2Fast? Just trying to figure out if a newer core in a lower end ball is stronger than an older core in a higher end ball. Any help is appreciated.

The RAD+ is a strong asymetrical design; the MB differential is 0.026 in the 15# ball, probably the highest ever in a Storm ball. The RAD+ also has a low RG, less than 2.50. The N.O.S. has a slightly higher RG (2.53) with medium flare. What really determines the dynamic is the coverstock. The Domination has the original Reactor cover, the 2Fast has the slightly stronger R2S (both pearls of course).

I had a Domination, and I felt that ball was THE best skid/flip ball Storm ever made, because they put a weaker cover on such a strong core. The transition was greatly delayed, and that ball jumped off the dry!

The R2S cover on the 2Fast will have a slightly stronger midlane and a softer backend response. The transition will be slightly earlier on the 2Fast, even though the hook potential will be much lower than the Domination.

When the T-Road Pearl and Special Agent debuted in late 2006, the description of the R2S cover was that it had a "flex additive" that widened the footprint and allowed for greater predictability, even through the standard oil transition. The R2S cover is also more durable (IMHO) than the original Reactor shell.

Hope this all helps...

The RAD+ core may be the strongest overall Storm has made. Just look at the performance of the overseas balls with that core and modern covers. The Domination Nano appears alot stronger than the VG nano in the Japanese videos.

...and I wish they'd bring the RAD+ core back to the good ol' U.S. of A.

Thanks guys. I have a Domination and am looking for something to go between it and a Tropical Breeze and/or between it and my Anarchy. I agree about the core strength. It's my favorite ball of all time and would give anything for an NIB. It's an absolute beast. I would love to have a Domination Nano. I'd trade my NIB V.G. Nano Pearl for one in a heartbeat. The thought of the RAD+ with a Nano cover makes me drool!!

Great question.  I learned a lot in this thread.

Oh regarding the R2S cover being more durable, it wasn't for me. My Fast cracked a couple of weeks ago while sitting in my roller bag. Trying to find a replacement. I fell in love with that ball right away. So smooth through the front and with a leverage drilling, was an absolute terror on the backend.

The only Storm balls I recall cracking were the first two Paradigms with the EOX covers. From what I gather, the temperatures between the core and cover during the manufacturing process were causing the cracking. Apart from that, I've never had a Storm ball break.

Only my Fast and a Tropical we bought for my wife, both used, have cracked. I have bought a ton of used balls and these are the only 2 that have cracked. I know it's nothing that I've done as mine are kept in my house and cleaned after each trip to the lanes. I think it's just a fluke. They all have the potential to crack. Some more than others. I will cry like a little girl if it ever happens to the Domination. lol.
