Arsenal for Nationals
« on: March 02, 2017, 12:11:59 AM »
So I was hoping for some help on what to bring to nationals this year.  I am typically a power stroker but can migrate to tweener if needed.  Typcially throw around 17mph and 350 revs.  I am willing to buy a new ball shortly as well if it will help me.  I can only bring 4 balls as I throw 16lbs.

I am currently thinking my Code Black for later in the shift and the IQ Tour for middle games and of course the Ice for spares.  I don't think the rest of my arsenal is worth bringing and am thinking about getting an Alpha Crux for the fresh.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Current Arsenal - Sure Lock, Code Black, Code Red, Hy-Road Pearl, IQ Tour Fusion, IQ Tour, Ride, Ice

Now Testing - Son!Q
Considering - Pitch Black

I have around 325-350 rev count and throw 15-16 mph, so we are somewhat similar in stats.  My team doesn't work together to break down the pattern, everyone does their own thing and hopes and prays it works.  A couple of us will watch what the lane and ball are doing and make bigger adjustments if necessary, i.e. going from an outside line to an inside line.

My initial thoughts about what I am taking is:  Storm Phaze II, Storm Marvel Pearl, and Plastic.  I want to take another ball and I am not sure what to take.  I have been seriously considering taking a Pitch Black because its something completely out of left field, but I could also take a RG Critical Theory in case I have to jump inside.

It was recommended to me by a friend that goes every year and has had some success...always have a "road grater" in the bag.  Based on what you are bringing it looks like you are missing one and should get the Alpha Crux or a different heavy oil ball.

I punched these 4 for state and nationals

Haywire, IQ tour, Hyroad pearl, loco solid.

Almost in the same boat as you.  Since my team does not work to break it down I just make sure I have a versatile bag.

In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

I'm going with a Rocket Ship at 1000 for a solid cover with surface and predictable rolly layout.  Eternal Cell at 1000/2000 for the solid cover but a little different shape (this ball gave me the best look I had last year).  Shiny DareDevil for when it's time to take the big leap left and the spot is defined.  Shiny Hectic as a step down from the DareDevil for more length and a little less back end overall....

For me, (not Storm, but ya know), I'd bring my Incinerate to blow a hole right of the spot, then Night Hawk to ball down to, then Boost Pearl when I really have to go left to right and I need push. Depending on length of pattern, I could see putting my Dream On in there, but if the pattern is too short, I would just put that ball away for control sake.

I'll be taking:

Absolute Nirvana
Grudge Pearl
Freak Show Solid
Brute Strength
Ridiculous Pearl

Unless I get on a team that breaks it down, I'm expecting to use my Absolute Nirvana or Freak Show Solid the most. If the backends really fly that's where the Brute Strength comes in as an IQ Tour like ball.

I agree that you should get a heavier oil ball like an Alpha Crux

If it were me, I would show up with what you have and make a decision based on what is being successful there.  Since you don't know the shot, there could be a decision between a couple of balls.

If the pattern is closer to 42 feet, then something asymmetrical (Alpha Crux, Sure Lock, Inception) could be an option.  But if the shot is closer to 38 feet, then perhaps something symmetrical could be better (Phaze II, Truth Solid, Dare Devil Trick).

You may have better luck getting some of the newer equipment at site, but you won't necessarily have your personal driller either.  Up to you.

Got to watch the Cote team bowl D & S from the second game of doubles all the way to the end. Brianna is Columbia 300, and i'm not that well versed in their product line, but she is a stroker and was throwing a pearl of some kind. Good execution, and her carry was good.  Another member of their group of 6 with a decent amount of hand was throwing a No Rules Pearl at 4th arrow and had a great reaction. Van Sickle, I think. The shot held there for quite a while. Around game 5, it changed and everybody went searching. Not sure what the lanes did, but it was obvious that something had changed as the scoring pace dropped off and even as we sat back there watching, it was hard to get a read on what was wrong with the ball motion. Big cores with clean surfaces for D & S was working for this group.

Did not get to watch any team bowling, but from the single video shot of Brianna I saw, it looks like the normal national team pattern type situation. Symmetric core with some cover to even out the reaction around 10, develop it and chase it in. Team pattern appeared to be shorter than the minors pattern, and as far as difficulty, scores tell me that it is on the order of what we have seen the last two years in team.

So it looks like it would be a good idea to get an Alpha Crux and have it with my IQ Tour and Code Black.  From what I can see that would be a good 3 ball combo on these patterns.

Our two teams probably won't work well together at a whole but a few of us will.  My regular ball guy will actually be bowling with me, he just won't have access to anything to punch it up, lol.

Thanks for all the help guys.  Long time listener, first-time caller kind of deal and I knew that everybody would be able to help.  Let's feel free to keep the discussion for arsenal building for this open for all that are going.

I'm heading out later in March and was wondering what to bring or what to possibly drill up myself. My lineup is a Critical, Snap Lock, Timeless, Hustle P/R/O, and the Mix. I would appreciate any suggestions as well. I'm a righty with medium revs and 15.5-16 mph. Thanks in advance!

I'm still on injured reserve until further notice, but my plan as of now is to bring the following balls:

Nirvana (500 or 1000 grit) - for burning up the outside to create a hook spot.
Melee or IQ Tour (1000-2000)
Zero Gravity or Forza GT (1000-2000)
Hyroad (2000)
Black Hammer Urethane or Fanatic BTU (500 grit)
Target Zone

Just in case these choices seem odd, I'm a no-thumber who emulates a style similar to Tom Daugherty.

I used an Alpha Crux at 4000 last year and it was my only good look.  This year I am definitely adding my IQ 30 which is a great read ball on flatter patterns.  I will probably add a new No Rules Pearl, an old cobalt Vibe, and round it out with my spare ball.

When you heading out there? I'll be bowling 3/22 and 3/23 the 830pm squad both days.

As for the op...I would definitely think an Alpha Crux or Sure Lock would work for the fresh for ya...

I personally will be taking:

Forest Quantum
Fire Quantum
El Nino 2000
Gem Tek Spare

Thanks everybody.  Alpha Crux is on it's way.  Of course they just discontinued it, lol

We are bowling on the 27th and 28th of March. I'm hoping to score much better than last year, but I think everyone can probably say that! LOL
