I think that the Shift is really meant for medium oil too, so that would be a waste.  There are mixed reviews on the Paradigm Passion, so for heavy oil, I would go for the Double Agent.  A step down from that is the solid version; the Special Agent.

If you don't encounter dry lanes very much, then I wouldn't bother buying a ball for light oil.  I don't encounter light oil at all really, so my arsenal lays out like this:

Heavy oil ball - Strong arc reaction
Medium/heavy oil ball - Flip reaction
Medium oil ball - Strong arc reaction.
Spare

Still, the Tropical is a good choice for dry lanes if you get them a lot.  If you don't feel you need a medium-to-heavy oil ball, then just carry three in a roller.  It weighs less than a four-ball roller, and you can always strap on a Joey if you want to put on another ball.  Plus, 3-ball rollers are cheaper than 4-ball rollers.

Does this help you any?

Heavy: Passion/Double Agent/Special Agent
Medium: Pyro..I love this ball
Dry: Maybe a T-Road Pearl? Or a Thunderstruck Pearl? Or a Jolt? I'm not too sure on a dry ball really

I've heard the Shift doesn't handle a lot of oil very well, so that's probably not a good ball for heavy oil. I have a Passion and I love it to death, it's VERY predictable off the break for me and it carries very very well. But if you're looking for particle, check out the Double Agent. I've heard great things about this ball too.

For dry lanes Hot Rod Hybrid or tropical.
Shot 300 with Hybrid on 3/14 on light oil.
Wait for the new stuff comeing out in late June for Heavy oil.
Keep your eyes open for the new Agent Hybrid LT for Heavy oil.
Need more help just ask be glad to help.
