Title: Ball Choice

Greetings Stormers

 My friend is looking for a tame Storm ball as he was watching me throw my Diminsion and my (highly polished) Rapid Fire Solid.

 But I told him that these balls are fairly aggressive, well, actually real aggressive so I told him that I would come in here and ask for him.

 I'm thinking that the Street Rod Pearl or the Rapid Fire Pearl would be fine for him but I dont know which of those two were the weaker.

 My friend is a stroker who mostly plays the second arrow and sometimes will try to play over the third arrow but he's more comfortable playing striaght up the boards.

 Right now he throws a Brunswick Scorh'n Inferno for every game during league which is why he is now wanting a more usable ball for the second and third game when the houses lane conditioner is MIA

You are probably right.  I would say the coverstock & then the core would be your determining factor.  R2s for the RFP vs. Reactor for SRP. So RFP would be stronger ball IMO.

the street rod pearl would be the weaker ball the rapid fire pearl has more back end than my dimension.but you could use weaker drill and the rfp would be fine on the condition you describe

Both of the Street Rods are smooth smooth smooth and aren't overly aggressive.  Rapid Fire Pearl is very strong with a ton of backend, not a great choice for him probably.  He can probably take a Street Rod pearl, throw his favorite layout on it and tweak the cover for the lane conditions and feel right at home.

I throw a rapid fire pearl and it is very strong.  It is very sensitive to oil and flips extremely hard as soon as it hits a dry board.  I know it partially because of the drill, but is what the ball is designed for.  I am not sure a weak drilling would be what your friend want.

The street rods appear to be great balls.  A little cheaper and very similar to the Street Rod Pearl, with a little more flip would be the Spit Fire.  Try ebay for a spit fire, going for $50 for 15lb and $40 for 16 as of about a week ago.

Has he thought about Brunswick?  I know several people who throw both Avalanches and absolutely love them (I like the solid better).

Higher ball speed, Street Rod Solid
Lower ball speed, Street Rod Pearl
Basic 1:30 label drill(or favorite as Dan suggested) and have at it!

A Street Rod would be a great choice. And as what was mentioned a little earlier, higher ball speed(Street Rod Solid) or lower ball speed(Street Rod Pearl) with his favorite drill and adjust surface as needed.

Hey! thanks Stormers, It looks like the "Street Rod Pearl" should be the ball choice for him, so when I see him on league night I'll be sure to pass it along to him...

Btw, I have been throwing the Dimension and the Rapid Fire Solid as of late and all I can say is that these two balls are a great one-two punch at least for me.

I find that the Dimension I can play up the boards or swing it but I find the ball works better up the boards but the Rapid Fire Solid is one sick ball...WOW!!

It always comes back in fact the more I swing it the more aggressive it becomes.
