They say 75% of the reaction is based on the surface...If you read the Storm or Roto reports, you'll see even the best in the world alter the surface to score.

I love the Shift or even Attitude Shift w/lane shine or when you can still ride the oil line.  It's got decent length for a solid r2s.  I've used mine all 3 games on occasion.  In fact I've been leaving my VG at home & just been using my Attitude & Shift exclusively.  Sucks that you can't hardly find too many Shifts NIB anymore.  Wonder what the replacement to the Shift will be?

As Mr. Straightball has mentioned also, knocking down the surface of a pearl may have the same effect on carry down.  I have a team mate who uses a dulled P/Domination all of the time.  He's got it laid out for skid/flip drill & that ball snaps wickedly throough the carry down w/excellent carry.

I hit my Hy-Road with a 2000 grit abralon pad and that ball really shines on the broken down and messy lanes. I find that surface is normally the issue when the lanes get sloppy. I also haven't lost anything on fresh shots with the surface on the hy-road, if anything its made it a tad stronger and easier to predict, making a great ball as a benchmark piece.

You have to decide if you want to go around the carry down or play through it.  If you want or have the hand to go around use a pearl to get through the fronts but drill it strong so it recovers.  If you don't have the hand use a semi strong solid with med to aggressive drill and play deeper.  Your carry will suffer if tug the pearl of roll the strong ball out to far.

T-Road solid is next strongest ball after the Hy-Road. It is solid, meant for medium-heavy oil and should be able to handle carrydown that the Hy-Road cannot.

No one can suggest a drilling properly unless we know your release specs and how the Hy-Raid is drilled.

Rapid Fire solid, knock the polish off as needed. The TRoad solid would work as mentioned above, but the RFS will provide more on the backend.

With 1500 grit polish, unless you have 500 rpms, or very light carrydown, I have to believe most bowlers will need something with more surface to conquer medium or heavier carrydown.

I always assumed that adjusting your line was the best bet for carrydown.

I use a 2D often on the shot you're describing. The pearl coverstock helps the ball get through low-volume heads and the mica load helps with traction when the ball is reading the lane. It comes OOB with Storm Step 2 (1500 polish).
