Ball for carrydown
« on: May 01, 2007, 01:31:50 PM »
Started a summer mixed league with my girl tonight, and ran into the same problem I always have in mixed leagues.  I average around 220 and started the night out with a 256 using my fired up.  As usual, alot of the people in this league just throw down the middle which creates problems for me in game two and three (no need to mention the scores!)  So anyway, I still have my credit in the pro shop to use and thought maybe I could go for something that would work for carrydown and maybe even a few of the PBA shots coming up this summer.  Any suggestions?

T Road has a lot of backend. If its the heads burning which appears to be carry down sometimes then this would be excellent.

An option of the Storm Pyro may be a good way to go. It has the same core and th coverstock is the same base but has a light load of particle added to help add traction. The pyro can work on more oil and also is more suited on carrydown and could give you a nice compliment to your Fired Up.

IMHO, Pyro would be an option - even though it is stronger than the Fired Up and might start burning up once carrydown starts. Another ball to consider is IMHO the Jolt Particle - probably with a slight surface adjustment to a very high grit or even polished. Good grip, weaker core, and with an arcing drill it should be a good step down once the Fired Up starts to get spasmic.

I concur with the Pyro suggestion.  If it is simply a carrydown issue go with a Pyro.  If the heads are drying up at the same time I would ask if you pro shop can still get you a Ragin' Banshee.  IMO this ball was an undervalued pearl particle that is perfect for fried heads with carrydown.

Another Pyro vote...I've used mine on a similar condition as yours in open bowling, and even my league which has open bowlingn before us which is irritating, but the ball gets through the heads and carry down has never affected it quite yet. Hits real well too, and I love the grape smell

Particle pearls and reactive solids are usually the way to go in carrydown.  Depending on how much oil there is in the heads, the Shift would work.  Less oil, the Pyro.

You get another Pyro vote here. Right now carrydown is about the only time it comes out of the bag. But the particle pearl seems to do the trick - and the flat 10s go bye bye.

Another one to try might be the Shift from Storm or the Mystic from Roto Grip because of the Pearl Particle cover.  That's if the problem is truly carrydown.  I own a Fired Up and it doesn't really like carrydown all that much.  The Pyro is another option if you're looking for something that costs a little less.

Well, the good news is that I already own a Pyro, it just doesn't get much play.  I will have to drag it along to the lanes next Tuesday and give it a shot.  Bad news is that I'm not sure what to get now.  The most aggresive ball I have is probably the Paradigm, so I'm thinking about the Double Agent, or waiting for the Secret Agent.

What's the scoop with the Secret Agent anywho? Are there any other examples of this hybrid coverstock? I'm very interested.

I would go with the t road solid or like a shift the t road solid will handle more oil over all because its a solid and the shift is particle pearl and is just plain old stronger

Pyro would be a great for wet/dry or a short oil pattern.
Jeff Carter and I both use the Pyro on short oil.
We both bowl in the Midwest.
I have a nine ball Storm Arsenal and the paradigm is my strongest ball.
I'm waiting for the new stuff talked to Storm late June.
If you would like to know my Arsenal just ask be glad help.

Well, I took the Pyro along this week for the mixed league and it worked great.  Started with the Fired Up as usual for the first game and a half or so.  Carrydown created a problem, so I used the Pyro and moved my feet and arrow about 5 boards right and had a nice smooth line to the pocket.  Thanks for the suggestions.  I might even take the Pyro tonight and try it on the Cheetah Pattern.
