For the longer and/or heavier oil patterns used in my sport league I have been using the Axiom and I am looking for a ball to compliment it. 

on some patterns; the axiom doesnt get me the necessary entry angle; so I have been looking at asymmetric balls such as the Proton PhysX and Reality.


I had a lot of good luck with the OG PhysX; but I am concerned that the Proton and Axiom have the same cover stock and I may not get what I am after. 

anything else that I should consider or am I over thinking this?

Why would you not just get the Axiom Pearl?  Doesnt the pearl typically compliment the solid?  I would steer you towards maybe an asymmetric if you are a little rev challenged and need that added help from a ball like the RST-X2.  But as long as you have some rev rate, then just go with the Axiom Pearl.

I can't recommend the RST X-2 enough if you want something with more torque

It's quickly become one of my favorites and has worked well on a couple longer patterns with surface for me.

when I say a ball to compliment the Axiom, I am not thinking about lane transition.  I have a nuclear cell; that should cover the motion that an axiom pearl would offer.

my challenge is on the true longer and/or heavier patterns where the axiom doesnt turn the corner well enough.  something like Badger which I bowled on last year.  My axiom on the fresh didnt turn the corner well enough and when I could get it into pocket it was flat.  this is why I was thinking an asymmetric solid such as the Proton could be a ball to pair up with the axiom.

that would give me 3 options: a proton or reality, the axiom and the nuclear cell.  this is only a 4 game block so the chances of needing to deeper into the bag are remote.

hmm; maybe I should give greater consideration to the axiom pearl and use surfaces on it and nuke to create separation between the 2.  either way I am probably creating overlap

On longer patterns; the shot calls for playing further inside.  Typically, a solid asym playing deep is not a good combination unless you can really get around the ball and make it corner on the backend.  Balls like the Proton and Reality are great when you can play 12-17 at the arrows and keep the breakpoint in front of you (keep your angles pretty closed up). Those are not going to be balls you would want to play 4th arrow and deeper and expect the ball to have saved enough energy to create the entry angle needed.  This is where balls like the Nuclear Cell and RST-X2 (if you need the extra torque down lane) or balls like an Axiom Pearl, Zen, Trend 2 (I know that is a hybrid), or another high end pearl would do the trick. 

If it were me; I would do the Axiom Pearl or maybe the Zen to compliment the Axiom Solid and then have the Nuke when you really need some added pop from the core.  I would only do something like a Proton or Reality if you plan on staying around 3rd arrow and keeping your angles tight (breakpoint around 10-12).
