Ball to play down and in from first or second arrow?
« on: March 27, 2016, 09:31:23 PM »
Hi! I'm looking to buy a new Storm ball. I want to be able to use it to throw straight down the second arrow and hook into the pocket. What balls should I be looking at? How should it be drilled? My revs are low/medium. I have an old Brunswick Radical Inferno and that is way too strong to play down the second arrow.

Can you tell us a little more about your game?  Things such as ball speed, if you're on THS or sport shots, etc. can help us give some more focused suggestions.

If you want to hang out at second arrow, look at a urethane ball.

If the Radical Inferno is too much ball you'd probably need to look at urethane or the tropical breezes

This is exactly what I do If I want to play out and up the boards. I have both, a Tropical Breeze and a urethane.

I use a loco solid and a motiv rebel tank when playing up the boards. The rebel tank is probably equivalent to the pitch blue.

I will only be bowling on House Shots. Ball speed is around 14-15mph. People on Reddit suggested Sky Rocket and Hyroad Pearl to me. Those may be too strong I think.

Depends on how much oil you bowl on.. Both of those would work for me most nights but not all 3 games.

If you want to camp out on one part of the lane, you need lessons not a different ball.

I was going to say this, but a lot of useers are so sensitive here. If someone wants to deadbolt their feet on the big dot and never move, great.

I have no problem with adjusting. My two other balls are the Radical Inferno and Storm Lock. I'm just looking for a "weaker" ball that will allow me to play much straighter. I watched videos of the Storm Pitch Blue and that seems to have the reaction that I am seeking. I have never tried a Urethane ball though besides my fathers ball from the 80's. It didnt have fingertips or anything but it still hooked a bit.

If you like Storm, look at the Tropical balls, might work and reactive, low diff .009 compared to mix at .006

You'll just have to really "square up" all of the pitch users doink tens all night long while being locked into the pocket.  In other words don't try to hook it like a reactive.

Dont get me wrong if their totally fried, the pitch black/blue kills it, but for 3 games in league im a not a believer in urethane...at the weakest...its weak reactives..

I am able to manipulate the lower end Roto stuff as it really gets down the lane and responds to hand positions really well.

I still use a 2012 shout consistently as my super dry ball, but need to go up 2-3rd arrow especially late in the 3rd game to seal the deal with brackets, survivor, etc.

I know I'm not as experienced a bowler as most here, but that's basically the shot I start with, then make adjustments when needed.  The lanes are synthetic and basically a THS, but from what I hear from most of the more experienced bowlers on the league though, is that there is a higher volume of oil than most places.  My ball speed is 17mph with average revs and the balls I use for that shot are a Storm Special Agent or a Roto Grip Defiant Soul.   I start on the 17-20 board (just about center of the lane or slightly right of center) and as long as I hit the second arrow (plus or minus a board) both balls will break right into the pocket.  And FWIW, I contacted Storm a while back and asked them which ball in their current lineup would be a good replacement for the Special Agent and was told the Optimus Solid.
