Ball to Replace Motive Ascent
« on: December 13, 2015, 10:33:15 PM »
Was looking for a storm or roto grip ball to replace my green motive ascent.  Any suggestions?

Which Green Ascent?
There are 2 of them: the Green/Purple Ascent and the newer Green/Pink Ascent Apex. They are 2 very different balls.

Roto-Grip balls, even the weakest, are all much stronger in overall hook and oil handling; so they're out, in my point of view.

You're safest bet is either a Tropical Breeze pearl or the Hybrid. The Ascent is closer overall to the TB Hybrid, but the hybrid is slightly earlier, but an excellent overall ball. The Ascent might have a small advantage in length.

Personally I think the Brunswick Strike King is THE closest match up to the old Ascent of all the balls currently made.

A scream would be close.

Best dry ball imo if u have a fair enuff amount of Rev storm tropical breeze, if you want a lil stronger Prolly the storm ride. In my opinion I tried most of all companies "weakest ball" and only tropical breeze was what I considered weak. Apex was to strong for me ,Columbia 300 freeze etc... In my opinion of course.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I found the Scream much stronger than my Tropical Breeze.

Ken,

Have you tried the Strike King?
I thought it would be strong than my TB Hybrid because it had a lower RG and a higher differential, but I bought both when I was having severe problems. I drilled the TB Hybrid first thinking it would be weaker. I liked it a lot for the dry I was seeing.

Then, I figured I had the SK; so why not drill it. I put the same drilling on it. I brought it one day to league just to do a quick compare with the TB Hybrid. Thank God I brought it: the lanes were fired. The SK went longer with more backend than the TB Hybrid. The TBH was almost burning up; it was that dry! The SK saved my rear end. Though it has more backend, it handled the even lighter oil with finesse. They're now an almost 1-2 pair for me.

I'm not saying it's the same as a breeze, there is no noticeable difference between a scream and accent. Your statement of a scream being much stronger is ridiculous

I saw a noticeable difference. For me, the Scream was equal to the Ascent Apex. The other Ascents are weaker

Hmm no I never tried strike king but I do have a slingshot not sure if they are the same but now that I think about it the slingshot did go longer. I just recently got another tbh I drilled it this time negative thumb weight kinda looks like a Rico layout for a lefty( I'm righty) and the tbh is all skid no hook which is pretty nice. But yea if strike king and slingshot is the close to same I would also suggest the strike king.

The SK and the Slingshot are nowhere near close. The SK has a stronger, but stilll controllable backend. It was hard to get any backend out of the Slingshot at all. Both were great on dry lanes. FYI I am rev dominant.

That's insulting. Have some degree of courtesy.

If you're speed dominant or matched, I can understand what you're saying. I am rev dominant and I know what I have seen.
