Barbed Wire
« on: October 15, 2003, 10:14:02 PM »
I just picked one up and going to punch it up.

Anyone have any experience with one or have anyone seen one thrown?

I'd love to know if it comes close to the ball reaction of the Bolt Pro, the best ball Storm ever made for someone with some hand. The Barbed Wire's specs seem to indicate it may have some hidden "reserves".

While I have never thrown the bolt pro I will post my findings in a few weeks about this ball.

Okay folks since no one else had to reply and I have begun my testing of the Barbed Wire I will post some of my opinions.

First off the ball is left in factory condition with no Elixir applied.  The ball has under 3oz top and a 2-3 pin.  Ball is drilled with the pin above the ring finger and cg kicked right 10:30 layout with a small weight hole on pap bringing the ball back to 1/2 oz side.

This ball goes long and it rolls smooth.  Lopes down the lane and then begins to rev in the mid part of the lane.  With an up the back release this ball gets midlane and gets into it's roll and just keeps going.  With a side rotation release it goes really long and has a small skid snap reaction.  Nothing like a Rotogrip Silver streak pearl.

This ball needs head oil and needs the dry in order to grip the lane.  Not surprising since this ball is for the dry condition.  On carry down it has a tendency to squirt with a side rotation release and does not do a great job at making it back.  With an up the back release and carry down it does better but it will ping 10's if you don't have any hand.  With carry down you should put this one away.

This ball would work well with strokers and tweeners with a small swing.  If you try to loop the lane like a cranker, this might not be a very good ball unless you have a some dry on the back end.

I will test this ball again with the Elixir and by applying a matte finish on it.

Overall this ball will be good on a light pattern and even a medium pattern if you have some backend.  With the 10:30 drill this ball looks good on the lane and retains the energy for the pins.

I compared this to my original Silver Streak drilled the same way and it is about 5 boards difference with my feet and a tighter line.

If you are looking for a dry lane ball this may be what you are looking for.

Got questions about this ball let me know.

Bared wired may not move much due to pro glide cover stock remember this is the same cover on the hit series. I want to see that core on stronger cover this may be sweat.

charlest...I know how you feel!!  My Bolt Pro has been retired for some time and I am still looking for a modern day replacement.  However, with Ebonite's new "hook again" system I think that I am going to see if I can get anything back out of the ball.
