Storm Jolt ?
« on: March 18, 2009, 05:33:36 AM »
Tell me about it.  What is it good for? I hear good things about the accutread cover.
I am looking for a medium -medium light oil ball that is super smooth arcing.  I want something that is above a Neptune in terms of handling oil but not heavy oil. I have a Neptune that is super smooth on dry dry conditions but with any medium head oil it gets pretty jumpy on the backend. Want Something that won't jump or over hook in the dry or overslide in the oil. Maybe something just below my Widow Pearl(angular backend) in terms of handling oil.

The Jolt looked like a pretty good candidate. I know it is an older ball but don't mind. Any other storm recomendations?

The Jolt is tamer but similar to the Twin-V core balls (Rapidfire, Surefire). Both the core and coverstock are less aggressive but the shape of the motion down the lane is similar. The Jolt Particle might work for you. Particle coverstocks hook well in oil but get tamer on dry so the overall reaction is really pretty smooth and not jumpy at all.

Thanks for the info. I don't want to go too strong though.  I figure I could always bring the grit down if I need more grab with the Jolt.

Hi J_w73, I have two jolt solids, both with pin under, the first one(1 1/4 inch pin) with a 5x 4 1/2, then the other one(2 1/4 inch pin) with a 4 1/4 x 3 1/4 with a small hole just outside the cg, the first one rolls then kind of snaps at the end because of the finger weight, the second one roles then hooks when it sees friction. If you want a smoother reaction, then I would stay away from anything closer then 5 inch pin to pap unless you wanted to do something like a pin axis or close to it, you could also do a 5 x 5 pin under and give it a little thumb weight then add some surface to it, that should keep it pretty smooth. I have a hot rod(3 1/4 inch pin) pin under with a 5 1/4 x 5 1/2 and it roles really smooth, I hope this helps

yes.. thank you.. I thought the jolt would be smooth based on the BTM ratings but I have seen some videos and it is alittle more jumpy that I want

thanks again for the info

Yes, you're welcome. Again it mostly comes down to surface prep

If you can find one it could do the trick but would need the right drilling and surface prep.

It was a med-medlight ball in its day similar to the street rods now.
the particle version would be better.

yes the video of the particle looked smoother.. I guess I need a weak cover than I can scuff up and smooth out the reaction.. something that when scuffed won't want to hook too early or too much though.  I think I may have found other balls that are a better fit.. not sure yet
