paradigm or the agent for me?
« on: July 21, 2006, 04:53:00 AM »
i need some input from you guys that have both or just one! first i'll give you some technical info to help. ME: i'm a i'm a power player witha high rev rate, last time i had my pap checked, they said it is 3 1/2 over, and 1/2" up, similar to mike fagan. i have alot of axis rotation, and pretty colse to 90 degrees of axis rotation, but i can change that as needed. med high ball speed(16.5-18 mph qubica scoring units), and generally like to play anywhere from straight up 5 to 25-30 out to five at breakpoint. generally i have to drill agressive stuff like my trifecta with pin over bridge, cg kicked out. also have a diablo drilled rev leverage, that is great on it's intended condition. usually, anything other than pins over bridge give me tamer reactions, but doesn't carry well in this center.
i'm going to drill up something new for league, either a paradigm or an agent.
the center i'm bowling at has old guardian synthetics, and the shot varies anywhere from heavy oil, to med light, but usually is med hvy mostly, it just depends on what pair you get on.  so which one would you guys recommend for me?

Both will do the job.  IMO an Agent vs. Paradigm decision is 100% an angle of entry decision since overall hook and oil handling seem to be close to the same.

I went with the Agent because I was looking for a smoother response to the pocket.  I like to play middle of the lanes (20 out to 15 or so).  With that angle of entry I wanted a ball that would be consistantly square to the pocket.  The Pardigm seems to delay its turn a bit but it has a stronger turn in the backends.

If you throw a Trifecta and a Diablo you will find the Agent closer to that type of roll (i'm not saying the same - I'm saying closer).  The Paradigm is closer in roll (but stronger) to the Fired Up.

dr revs: i too seem to do better with asyms, but i've also had a lot of success with symetricals that were drilled with 5" pin to pap, with cg in palm. thats my dilemma! the guy who led our league last year in average used a paradigm and a one, and i don't think he ever got left of 15 all year! he's a flame thrower though so you can't really go by how he plays the lanes. i'm definetely feeling you on the pap, while others may create skid and backend, we do it nautrally! it can get tricky, depending on where others are playing on the lanes with us!

greenfam: so the paradigm i'm assuming will be closer the the trifecta as far as ball roll and midlane? where as the agent will be closer to the diablo in ball roll, right?

Stopncrank,

CZ said it more succinctly than me.

The Paradigm's more violent in the backend than the Agent.  Neither the Trifecta nor the Diablo have the kind of backend that the Paradigm has.  I went with the Agent because it fit my game better.

drrev: haven't really thought about the hr ss that much. i've got a friend that got one when it came out and he is close to me in pap, revs and speed and he didn't like it very much. not that it won't work for me, i'm just in love with the trifecta's roll and carry. so i'm really looking for something in between my trifecta and my diablo. plus, i need something pearlized, as the heads in the center i bowl in tend to get really nasty after about a game, game and a half.  from what you guys have said, i can assume that the agent will be about the same overall hook as the paradigm, just a little earlier and even with it's move. plus i don't think the hr ss would be that much different than my diablo that i have. i think they would be too close in reaction.

the fired up from what i've heard is the most angular ball after the paradigm. that might be an option, but the paradigm will handle a little more head oil, and i think the paradigm might allow you to open up the lane a little more.
this is one of the hardest parts of the game for me, choosing new equipment. i love the trifecta, but i just dont see the kind of oil it requires. i'm trying to find a piece that i can at least use for 2 games in league!

i don't think i've ever had a ball sanded to 4000! i think the highest i had was 2000. wouldn't that be too shiny a surface for med hvy conditions? i would think it would be too sensitive or over/under! my diablo is 1000 sheen, but i think i'm gonna go up to 1500 and lightly polish it. i also think i'm gonna take the trifecta to 1000- 1500 and polish it too. i think if i do that and get good results, i'll go with the paradigm. the diablo will cover med conditions untill i decide wether to get the FU or the spitfire.
