Big Hit, Pyro and Thunderstruck
« on: November 14, 2006, 04:44:43 AM »
Your opinions on four questions please. I'm looking for an entry level reactive ball to go with my Columbia White Dot. I was looking at the Storm Pyro and Thunderstruck. They seem to be balls for med-heavy oil. And, I'm wondering what is the differences between the two balls?  Can a Thunderstruck be considered an entry level reactive ball? I was also considering the Big Hit Pearl and Big Hit Particle balls, any brief general comment on those two balls, are they worth going after?
Lastly, what is the air speed velocity of a laden swallow?

an entry lvl ball would be the tropical (may need 2 scuff it up a bit if u want 2 to handle some oil) or maybe a jolt sold but they are very similar.

Any of the mentioned balls would be nice, I would suggest the Thunderstruck Soild. The Tropicals and the Jolts are cheaper, but you will feel the performance loss. Go Thunderstruck.

I think the traditional choice would be the Tropical over the Thunderstruck.  I know the Thunderstruck hooks a ton and I don't know if that's what someone would want to learn with.  I know the Thunderstruck needs some oil because I find myself swinging it out a lot more on lighter oil and I don't usually play those kinds of lines.

I've seen people argue on here about what an entry level ball should be.  Should a player start with a lower end ball like a Scout, Tropical or Power Groove?  Some people will say no, but then again a lot of people say yes.  Some say it is better to start with something with a better core like a Jolt Pearl or Jolt.  This is one of those things that I would try to get some really good advice on before choosing a ball to get.  If you go with a mid-performance ball you will probably like it better in the long run, but it will probably be pretty hard to control at first.

Tropical:  Destroys on light oil.  Cheap ball too!
Thunderstruck:  Good for a variety of conditions, also cheap for some strange reason, but must be able to make the necessary adjustments in release and trajectory because it has a great hook potential.

I would rather choose the Tropical over the big hit. The Jolts can also be nice entry level balls.

Yeah, I am with Fluff on this one.  The Big Hit's are just the opposite of their name so I've heard.  I heard that hit like a pillow and don't carry much at all.

The balls to look at for you, a beginner are:

Jolt Pearl
Any of the 6 Tropical Storms
A Spit Fire - Drilled lightly

And thats about it. I would seriously consider the Tropical Storms because they are easy to adjust and play with.
