Hi all,
First post, so bear with me, this is gonna get long. I just got back into bowling about 6 weeks ago with about a 7 year layoff... (bowled one fall and one summer season 3 years ago, then quit again) I average between 210-220 depending on the house and I'm back in form now and ready to go, but I need to rebuild my arsenal and it's a whole different ball game now... literally. (P.S. I throw the ball between 17 and 19 mph and turn the ball pretty well. I'm on the high end of a tweener)
My new equipment is:
Gravity Shift: Drilled with a medium layout
Rapid Fire: drilled pin up with CG in to go a little longer
My old equipment:
Retro Piranha (shined): pin up
Killer instinct (shined up): pin up
Vicious Attack (dulled up): Leverage
Here's the thing... last I bowled, the VA was my heavy oil ball, the KI was my go-to ball, and the piranha was my dry lane and spare ball. I'm going to keep them all because I think they'll fill some mini-gaps in equipment nicely...
But as for my main equipment here's my problem:
The Gravity Shift is great, haven't bowled MAJOR oil yet, but on a 41' THS it has NO problem getting around the corner and back to the pocket. So, I don't know yet if I'll need a heavy oil ball, but if I do I'm thinking a Cell, drilled to roll early and keeping it box finish... am I right in that? (or even a Track Rising... I know that sacreligious on the storm board, but honestly... it looks like the Critical Mass and I'm a nostalgic guy... what can I say? ha)
Second, I was told that the Rapid Fire would be a good medium ball, so I drilled it to go long, but it's ALOT more aggressive than I thought... it rolls earlier than I expected and unless I'm mistaken it's using it all up early and dying at the end unless I keep it inside with the oil longer...Needless to say, it's not a dry lane ball. I can use this ball as a slight adjustment to the Gravity Shift, but I STILL need a medium or medium to dry ball... I was going to drill up a Street Rod Pearl, but now I'm reading some people say that it's ALOT more aggressive than they thought, (someone even said it's like the Gravity Shift, that makes me nervous) so I don't want to get back in the same boat as I did with the Rapid Fire and still need to drill up another ball... SO...
Should I just drill up the Street Rod Pearl?
or should I drill a Jolt Pearl (even though it's the same ball)?
or should I just drill up a Tropical Storm to make sure?
or should I drill up a Tropical storm with stronger drill?
(or does anyone have another ball they could recommend for what I'm looking for, I know, don't hate me StormChasers)
Help! Too many choices and I'm just not familiar enough with the equipment to know.
(Sorry for the long post, but I just want to hear what everyone thinks after being fully informed. I ask my pro shop guys who know my game but I'm afraid they're just selling me what they want knowing I'll come back and buy what I needed in the first place... Cause I'm THAT guy.)
Thanks in advance.
