Broad Question
« on: April 14, 2014, 06:36:39 PM »
I was reading another poster's question and it gave me something else to think about. I already decided to pick up a Zero Gravity this summer to dominate patterns with some oil; however, I still need a medium oil ball that is rolly with a clean motion upfront. I realize I am not a fan of the flip motion. As nice as it looks, it isn't what I need. The right surface is what really matters to me. What do you all recommend?

Something symmetrical with a little surface.  There are tons to choose from depending on what brand you prefer.

Brunswick Mean Streak Beatdown or DV8 Marauder Madness are good ones.

I already own a Hy-Road. I love it, but I want a different reaction.

Look into Marvel Pearl. It's smooth for a pearl. Plus you could always sand a little for earlier rolls. Lights Out will be flippy. IQ  tour solid will start to burn up on some medium conditions. IQ Fusion is great but a bit flippy for a hybrid. Marvel Pearl is earlier and smoother.

I have a Lights Out pin down with 2000 surface. Smoothest ball in my bag.

this sounds interesting.  Does it handle oil better with the 2000 finish or is it just a smoother medium/light oil ball?

I have a Lights Out. I don't really like the reaction. Very inconsistent ball imo. I think maybe it's time for me to get away from r2s. I need more strength then what those balls provide. Marvel pearl as a step down to the Zero Gravity when I get one? Hmmm... I'll consider. I actually was thinking about the Marvel Pearl and Deranged. The only way I wouldn't get a Marvel earl is if it is retired before I am able to get one. I really want the Zero first though because of it's strength in vore and cover. I haven't had a ball of that calibur since the Virtual Gravity with a drilling that didn't suit my game. (inexperienced)

Yes Marvel Pearl is a step down from Zero Gravity, but I have to ask.  Why would you want a Zero Gravity if you dont like skid/flip reaction?  This ball is Very angular for a solid.  Its also not a particularly strong solid.  I am not saying its a bad ball at all, but Storm designed this ball to be more usable on house conditions(aka weaker).  It gets through the fronts well for a solid and has a very angular move to the pocket while being able to handle a moderate amount of oil. Its not really a heavy oil ball. If you want something that will handle alot of oil without being too angular, you might want to look elswhere(like a Marvel-S or Hyper Cell.)  This is my general opinion without knowing how you bowl or what type of conditions your going to be on,  so take from this what you may.

If your rev rate is 520+, R2S covers should be plenty strong.

How about a Roto Rumble?  For its price point that ball looks fantastic and takes surface changes really well from what i've seen.
