This may be a stupid question, but what would be the advantage of getting a pro pin bowling ball

Pro pin is a fancy term for a blem that has the pin at an unreasonable distance from the cg (for example 6").  Pro CG is another fancy term for a blem where the CG is significantly off of the line through the pin and MB.  They really don't have advantages, they're just different.  You could use them for exotic layouts, but then again you kind of have to.

I think that the longer the pin is, the longer the ball will go in natural. Only certain people can match up to it so i would ask your pro-shop if they would be ok for your style.

No - they arent always a waste of time.  If you get a Pro CG ball with the MB kicked the right way, it'll be great for you.  You can drill just about any pattern on it without needing a weight hole.  Also, a shorter pro pin can work great especially if you have a long span.  Once you get into the 10+ pin length is where you have a problem lol.

Not really.  Mark the spot 180* from the pin, call it the anti-pin, and that 10" pin ball now has a 3 1/2" anti-pin.  Lay it out like any other ball using the anti-pin instead of the pin.  Use the CG or MB that's already marked (weigh it, of course, to make sure that's really the CG).

I have a pro pin Horizon and a saturn both drilled pin over ring 5 inch pin to pap, they both hook plenty and hit as good as anything else.

For the price on auctions usually 60 and shipped or less you can get a very good bargain.

Ok, help me out here.  What step did you take to get the 10" regular pin to a 3 1/2 anti pin?  is the anti pin on the line with the cg and pin but "below" the cg whereas the regualar pin would be "above" the cg?

Hmmm now I know any propin can be used...sweet.

You can draw a line from the pin through the CG 13 1/2" to find the anti-pin but really, there's only one spot 180* from the pin.  The pin is the north pole, the anti-pin is the south pole.  13 1/2" in any direction, through the CG or not, there's only one spot.

Some people go buy those blem/pro-pin balls with the 5" or 6" pin and going for a really high-pin layout (all those "TJ trick layout" posts) and point to a ball with a 10" pin and declare it unusable.  But really, it's easier to lay out a 10" pin (3 1/2" anti-pin) than a 6-7" pin without resorting to any exotic layouts.  You just flip the ball over.  Not many balls are available with the same core/cover but inverted, so the flipped ball will be unique.

Yes when the core is flipped over it is just like a whole different ball, flip blocks are either on top or bottom if there are any. It is is easier to drill 9 or 10 inch pin ball just flip it over, remember the cover is the biggest factor anyway.
