Building an arsenal around Hy-road Nano and Hy-road Pearl
« on: March 09, 2018, 11:31:34 AM »
I currently own a Hy-road Nano and Hy-road Pearl and am looking to build a Storm/Roto arsenal around both balls. I love the ball motion with each ball, and can use one or the other on most lane conditions. There are times however that I feel other balls would match up better with the lanes, and would love to get the perspective of this forum on options to compliment both the HRN and HRP. A few pieces of information about my style:

- Left handed with med revs and med/high ball speed. Tend to be slightly speed dominant.
- My preferred line is between first and second arrow playing 6 at the breakpoint.
- Would prefer to stay away from asymmetrical cores, as they tend to be too angular for me, which creates more ringing 7 pins than I would like. Although I do hear the No Rules Exist is really smooth for an asymm.

Any reason not to have the OG Hy-Road?  Its the best of the bunch imo (haven't tried Nano though, only seen others throw it).  Just bought my second one.  After that yeah might look for lower RG balls.  Storm/Roto guys can hook you up but just love to plug my favorite ball when I can lol.

Handful of good options to compliment them two balls. If you're looking to avoid Asyms, I would say for a different look you could test out a Son!Q, IQ Tour Solid, Idol, Dare Devil Trick, All Out Show Off, and/or Hustle INK.

Any of those should give you something different from the two Hy-Roads you have.

No, I don't have a great reason to not have the OG Hyroad. My only thinking was that there wouldn't be a condition to use it that either the HYN or HRP couldn't handle. I know you said you haven't tried the nano, but do you feel there's a material difference between OG and the Pearl?

Like all of those options you listed. One other option I was considering was the Phaze II, but wasn't sure if that would be too similar to the nano.

If you had to pick two from your list to compliment the hyroads (making a 4 ball arsenal) which ones would you choose and why? Also, is there a way to test any of these ball's before making a purchase?

Bought the pearl in 16lb dumbly believing BTM that it was stronger than the OG and it was not even with the higher diff.  Its sharper off the spot but requires a fair amount of friction to work for me.  Now that I found a good surface for the OG Hy-Road I can use it all 3 games of my doubles league no problems.  For higher rev players with less axis tilt on here they seem to prefer the pearl.  I am a THS warrior which the nano is not ideal for so that is why I don't own that ball.  Went with some quantums instead.  Love me 2 piece balls.   Pretty much have a complete mini arsenal of 2 piece balls now.  That Hustle Ink and those Dare Devil balls are the Roto pieces I see people on here really rave about fyi.  Own an IQ Tour as well and everyone says its owns flatter patterns but its not as good as my Hy-Road or even Venom Shock on THS at least for me.  Very consistent and predictable as in 9/  5+ times a game.  Still you have a good base to build off.  Good luck.

Personally to fill out a 4 ball with those options, I would go with the Son!Q and IQ Tour Solid to complement your two Hy-Roads. Hy-Roads lope a bit down the lane where as those two options spin up a bit quicker. I would feel pretty confident that I could tackle most conditions with those 4.

Unless you plan on having 6+ balls sitting around to choose from, I would probably hesitate on having both a Hy-Road Nano and Phaze II.

Makes sense about incorporating 2 options that rev up sooner. Being a little speed dominant I think that would help. If I went with the 4 ball arsenal you suggested, would the IQ Tour serve as the best option for heavy oil conditions, and the Soniq for med/heavy oil?

Nano would be your heaviest oil option. IQ Tour could handle some volume if you hit it with a lot of surface, but I'm considering everything at box finish. I would see them in this order as far as handling oil HRN > IQ Tour > Son!Q > HRP.
