Cheetah
« on: August 09, 2007, 12:09:05 PM »
Hey everybody, i am posting this here because one of my balls is a storm paradigm passion. I have a pba inferno, and a paradigm passion, both at 600. I was just wondering which one would be best for the cheetah. I am a pretty low rev player, about 250, 15 mph and a med-high tracker. Thanx a lot.

I'd say the Inferno, wouldn't the Paradigm be too strong for that pattern?

The Cheetah is short, but a high volume of oil.  A strong ball with a weaker drill sometimes can work very well on it.  I have heard of people successfully using a Mammoth for example, and that thing is a oil-hungry hook monster.  I had my best scores on it with a Total NV when the shot was a little broken down, but also scored well with the Spit Fire.

I used my Passion on the Cheetah playing in the swamp that is the middle. I had to slow it down a bit, and swing it from like, 18 to about 10 or something like that...something a stroker like myself shouldn't really be doing lol. But it worked well for that night, and it drove through the pins quite well. I know it's probably not much help, but at least I can say that I've done this

playing the cheetah pattern for the first time is a great learning experience. one would assume that with "only 35' of oil" that you'll have to play deep inside with a weak ball when in reality most of the time it's just the opposite. although the pattern is only 35' in length it has the most oil by volume. strong bowling balls with aggressive coverstocks are often times the best equipment to use. one of the biggest challenges in playing this pattern is realizing the lanes themselves. wood, wood with guardian or laneshield, amf synthetics, and brunswick synthetics. these all play slightly different due to the friction available. however, your breakpoint will need to be outside the first arrow, as far right as the 1-2 board, appx. 36-38' down the lane. i've been able to use my entire arsenal playing this pattern----it all depends upon the type of lanes being used and the amount of wear and tear on them.

So far I found the Cheetah pattern to be my mortal enemy, and by far the hardest pattern I've bowled on. I think I took the wrong approach the few weeks we had it, not knowing where to play with what equipment. Hopefully next time I'll be able to own it.

Another small hint is to keep your hand up the back off the ball and not around the ball.

That's actually true for any PBA pattern for me.  The more I used forward roll as opposed to lots of side rotation, the more predictable and consistent my reaction became, and the better my pin carry became.

Thank u everybody, the lanes are brand new amf synthetics. My scorchin seems to be pretty snappy compared to the paradigm because the scorchin is drilled for a later hook, not rolly. I was thinking of putting some delayed reaction on one of them, do u think that might help in reducing the snap at the end.

That is just going to accentuate the skid/snap actually I believe.  By making the ball go down the lane more, it will force the ball to grab harder on the dry and turn up sooner.  You might try sanding the ball down to a slightly lower grit for an earlier roll which results in less angularity at breakpoint.
