OK...Does Polish on a NANO....
« on: March 24, 2011, 11:37:07 PM »
Kill the cover?

My pro shop guy told me that Storm had just notified pro shops, that polishing the NANO, kills the cover...
Is it a rumour?

I saw the re: from Hank Boomershine.
I had sent an email to TechSupport at Storm, which I should have done first.
This is how rumors start, and I'm sorry for the post.
Thanks for your re:

Hi Duke Harding,
This is a RUMOR! The Nano takes a polish quite well and for those bowlers with slower speeds and/or bowling on lower volumes should be using it (if they want to use it for longer than 6 frames ).

The NRG coverstock is very pliable. Sanding or polishing, back and forth, it can be used on a wide variety of conditions and for a multitude of styles. If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to contact us at tech@stormbowling.com or call us at 800-369-4402.

Thanks

Russell,

I agree...I very seldom roll a ball OOB....I hit it 2000AB first...I only bowl on THS Pro Anvilane surface, and find that surface  works.

SInce ball companies do more than one ball with a pad, when finishing the ball, there would also be a difference if your ball is done with a new pad, or your ball is the last ball finished with the pad (before replacement)....at least that's what I was told, once.

Who cares?  I don't ever let a ball out of the shop with an actual box finish on it because they are completely impossibly to duplicate.  If I touch the ball with a fresh 2000 before they throw it they get the same look as the box finish, and when they come back and say "can you put it back to box" I don't have to charge them$10 for 20 mins of work.

its actually pretty easy to duplicate a factory finish. just do what they do on a spinner or put it in a surface factory. especially on a house shot you get it close enough where there is a minimal difference in reaction.

The factory finish on a ball, is a suggestion, NOT an absolute. It is a starting point for desired ball reaction. Your pro shop needs to adjust the ball to your specific style, and lane play. Please understand that companies are putting out a factory finish that will appeal to the widest variety of bowlers. The cover is the FIRST thing that needs to be changed, in order to read the lane the right way, for the condition you are bowling on, and the lane surface that is in use.

If you are relying on the factory finish to determine whether you like or dislike a bowling ball, you may be missing out on a great ball, that just needs a surface adjustment.

Not adjusting a cover stock on a bowling ball, is kinda like never changing the seat position in your car, because that is the way it came from the factory. You need to make it fit YOU.

Hank Boomershine has answered this question: http://forum.bowlingchat.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2732

Glad to hear this as my shop guy told me the same thing about polishng it.  I think it was more meant to say why buy this ball than go ploish it.  I had asked the guys in Reno as we where out when the Storm teams where bowling and got the answer it was OK to do.  As it is, it shines up really fast just by use with lane oil and it does very little if anything to tame it down much.
