Do some core numbers just match up better for you?
« on: October 14, 2017, 03:11:58 PM »
So one of my favorite balls ever was the original black widow and I have had a lot of success with most of if not all the widows I have bought. I switched to storm and Roto a long time ago and have had a lot of success but still always considered the original black widow my favorite ball until I got a code black last year. I was having an awful season lost confidence but after I got the code black I just matched up so well with it i was back to my old self and ever sense I have been bowling better with all my equipment but especially the code black I just see the shape and reaction I get from that ball so much better than anything else. Now on Thursday I got myself a code red finally as a birthday present and just wow shot 235 258 255 off the press and again after a few shots I just seen the shape and what I was getting it was like I’ve had the ball for weeks. Now after that rant what I noticed is the codes core and widows core all have an rg of 2.50 and a diff of .058 am I thinking to much into it that I like these balls so much better than anything else or do some bowlers just match up to a set of core numbers.
In bag now, no rules , code black, code red , timeless , and fight and of course spare ball lol

Congrats on some great scoring and bowling!

But, no, don't rely on one factor out of many, many that determines how well you are scoring and how good a ball reaction you are getting.

As has been said so many, many times, surface+coverstock rules, 70% of a ball's reaction. Then there's the oil pattern, how well you're throwing the ball, how consistent is your release and ball speed, how accurate you are that day. Plus a thousand other factors.

The core's specs are only as starting point; once drilled, the dynamics of the drilled core will be very different from the statics.

Using balls whose core meets this apparent ideal will only limit your choices and possibilities.

Thanks code red is an amazing piece haven’t been that locked in right away to what a ball was giving me on the first night. I only got two shots with it in practice when it was done then game started I went through the face for a split then double and 7 pin a deserved another double and 7 pin I deserved then went sheet. Second game just two 7 pins I deserved so no complaints of anything first two game and third I left a ring 7 and 10 pin that I could have fell but still great night.

And yeah you are right I wouldn’t just pick a ball for those things only if that was case I would just kept replacing the oil soaked hammer pieces I had from back then just having the widows wasn’t enough to keep getting my money any more

Much like you, I also noticed that I gravitate towards balls with a particular set of core numbers. For me its, 2.48 and .048 differential. It is not that I can't use pieces with a different set of numbers, it's that I bowl extremely well with balls with core numbers in that general range, regardless of surface!

There might be a correlation here with the really high differential numbers, but I wouldn't put a ton of stock into it. Really think it's a case-by-case basis.

Of course I also believe there's a general range in core numbers that might just be better for some bowlers. So who knows. Besides you obviously. To be honest I would just go with what your gut says. Virtually everything is a quality product these days so I wouldn't worry about getting a dud. And if you do... then you can have fun buying another ball.  ;D
