When a polished medium oil ball, like the Hy-Road, outhooks a dull oil loving ball like the Vivid, usually the "problem" is that there is not enough oil to conserve energy to use the Vivid. The White patterns (there are 3 of them) are not normally a heavy oil pattern. 2 of the Whites use around 18 & 19 ml of oil per lane, and the 3rd uses approx. 24 ml. Even the 24 ml is barely enough for a strong ball UNLESS you have more ball speed than you have revs.
Since your Hy-Road is hooking more, I suspect it is almost ideal for your delivery (rev rate, ball speed, tilt, rotation) for use on whichever White pattern you are bowling on.
Remember that resin balls are different from urethanes. WIth urethane the bigger hooking ball was always the strongest. With resins, the more expensive balls, like the Vivid use their strength to handle more oil than less expensive balls, but they need more oil to work properly. Without enough oil, they can leave weak leaves, like 5-7s, 8-10s or plain weak 10 pins.
