Virtual Gravity problems, how to fix?
« on: January 07, 2010, 11:22:48 PM »
Aight ive had my virtual for bout 6 months, and it may have 60 games on it. Ive had it rejuvinated once about a month and a half ago and i changed the surface to 2000 abralon no polish for a tournament i bowled in. Ever since i changed the surface, it has rolled like pure crap for me. So im gonna rejuvinate it again tomorrow to make sure there''s no oil in it. so what do i need to do to get it "close" to oob reaction, because ive tried the 360, 500, then whatever final grit you want and i still cant get anything close to the reaction i got 6 months. it doesnt have a weight hole, would that be an option? here''s a pic of the layout on it:http://s826.photobucket.com/albums/zz189/stopncrank/Mobile%20Uploads/?action=view¤t=2009-09-11_131056-1.jpg&newest=1
More than anything, i cant get the backend and continuation i got with it before, its almost like its rolling out on the back.
So what do you guys think i should do? weight hole, or is it something in the resurfacing process im missing?

for these balls i.e. rogue cell, vg, dimension

my final grit is used very quickly on the ball. i go from the top of the ball to the side, just one pass. do that on four sides and thats it. you dont want to smooth out the ball much.

if you tried that... well im out of ideas. then im not sure why some vg's die. but my theory is that once you smooth out the deep grooves the ball no longer grips the backend like it does OOB. and from what you said it died a lot after a resurface and thats what i keep hearing. someone touches the surface and it never seems to react the same.

Also make sure the 360 and 500 pads you use for the underlying surface are fresh.  If they're worn, the ball will not get the same surface texture, and it will react different.  I touched up the surface on my Reign about a month ago, and went with the same finish I had originally put on it immediately after getting drilled -- straight from 500 to 4000 on a spinner, then polish by hand.  After redoing it, the ball really labored to pick up a roll and didn't want to finish on the backend.  I tried adding more polish because I thought it might be reading too early, but that didn't help any.  I went back to the pro shop, and we realized the 500 abralon pad we had used was really worn, so we redid it using brand new pads, and the ball started reacting like it did when it was brand new!  It's amazing how big a difference such a slight change made.

well i know the 500 pad was fresh i got it out of the pack, the 360 probably wasnt. and i went 2000 instead of 4000 and probably hit it too much. im gonna try again tomorrow.

so how long with the 360 and 500, and do you use firm pressure with those grits then get lighter with the final grit right?

Well there you go.  You didn't take it back to box finish.  You need to finish with a 4000 pad to prevent the ball rolling too early and burning up.
