Anarchy vs Prodigy
« on: November 16, 2010, 12:07:08 PM »
I have been out of bowling for a couple of years and I have recently started bowling in a new house. The house I was previously bowling in had synthetic lanes with plenty of oil in the middle with fresh backends and outsides, it was a pretty easy shot.

The only two balls I currently have are the Rapid Fire and Sidewinder. I could play outside with the sidewinder, and I could play anywhere on the lane with the Rapid Fire.

The house I am now bowling in has old wood lanes. There isn't very much hold in the middle and the outsides are flying. I have been struggling with the Rapid Fire. I have no margin for error. If I pull the ball, the Rapid Fire will not hold because of the lower amount of oil in the middle. If I miss right, the Rapid Fire burns up and doesn't make it back. When I finally get the ball to the pocket I leave a bunch of ten pins.

I think if I have a strong reactive pearl it will give me more hold on pulled shots and more recovery on wide shots.

I have never had much success with reactive pearls, but then again I have never had to worry about getting the ball down the lane with the synthetic lanes.

I am looking at the Anarchy or the Prodigy. I have medium to low revs and 14 to 17 mph.

Any help would be appreciated.

Contrary to what you are thinking, I believe you should be looking at one of the pearls in the Tropical family.

Storm's Tropical line is stronger than advertised but made for lite oil and broken down patterns, depending on the drilling you get.

I would look into that before spending excess money on the two balls you listed.

I would look into a weaker drill pattern also. Something like a 5 or 6 inch pin from axis point above the fingers, this will/should create more room inside of target.

The Prodigy and Anarchy are pretty strong balls, might look into a Reign or a Tropical Heat, much higher RG's, easier length.

Backing up what Jesse James said.

I bowl on synthetics with a shot that is very tight in the middle with little back end, but quite dry outside.  Pretty much anything polished (when pulled left) will skid down the lane leaving 2,8,10's, if I leak it right it'll jump off the dry leaving 3,6,10's.

I've discovered that my Tropical Heat (pearl) (2000 grit, pin above bridge, cg kicked 45 degrees) reacts really smoothly off the dry, yet has the strength to make it back in the oil.  In this house I've squared up a bit and am playing a 4 board angle over 12 or 13 so if I pull it into the oil, it'll go relatively straight down the boards without losing the pocket right.  If I leak it right, the ball burns up energy without being flippy, but has enough left to make the turn to the pocket.

The ball is pretty cheap and honestly, it's a great addition to a person's arsenal even if it doesn't match up in this particular house.

I agree with the others - the Tropical Heat Hybrid and Pearl are both amazingly strong pieces for their cost - they''re great on THS''s.  I use them as much or more than the other balls that I carry (6-ball roller).  The Pearl has been the 1st ball out of the bag lately!

The above comments are right on based on what you describe. I would go for a REIGN or even a TROPICAL PEARL.

I bowl in a wood house with good a new surface on the lanes and the Reign is always enough ball-most times use Tropical Heat / bowl a 2nd league on a THS synthetics and thr Reign works great. I see no need for the Prodigy or Anarchy unless you plan on using it on other patterns.
