Nano Pearl compared to polished VG???
« on: February 09, 2012, 01:11:21 AM »
I was just wanting to know if anyone has had a chance to compare the Nano Pearl to a polished VG.... I am not sure which way I want to go... Do I ball up and get a the solid Nano and then polish my VG... or just buy the Nano Pearl or maybe a Marvel pearl...Kind of in the need for a strong pearl.... any insight or comment would help... thanks

As far as pure strength, the Nano Pearl is stronger in the back than a Marvel Pearl. The MP is strong, but its more of a sweeping arc opposed to the sudden move the NP makes. As usual, it depends on the shape you want.

I haven't thrown the Nano Pearl, but I have polished my old VG.  I retired it about a year and a half ago because it was just dead, or so I thought.  I was running into a problem with my Anarchy not finishing when the lanes started to carry down.  I took the VG to 360 and polished it with Ruff Buff just to see what would happen.  All I can say is it brought the ball back to life.  I've been amazed at how well a polished VG is.  I was even thinking of polishing my Nano just because I rarely ever throw it because I can't find enough oil for it.  I chose not to as it is my heavy oil ball.  The polished VG fits perfectly between a Nano and Anarchy.  I say give it a shot and you might be pleasantly surprised as I have been.

Balls in the bag and order they come out:
#1/2 Nano and Anarchy #3/4- Virtual Energy/Polished VG   #5-Big Hit (spare and really dry)  #6- Gravity Shift
#7- Teal Rhino Pro (oldie but a goodie)

Original VG was still the best core shell matchup Storm has had in 5 years.  However it was best in box condition after the lane polished it.  Like you, mine died and I have gone through Virtual Energy, Anarchy, Nano and Nano pearl.  All decent balls, but none have given me quite the same look I got with the original VG.  I wish I would have tried harder to revive it.

Most will tell you tha the pearl will be cleaner through the front and more angular on the back than the polished solid. This is generally true if all other factors are even.

The reviews on the Nano Pearl have been touch and go. I have two Nanos and prefer the original over the Nano. I would love to see a Virtual Gravity Pearl. For now, I have given up on finding a ball that rolls as good as the VG but is a step down.

At one house, I carry  an OOB VG, a polished VG drilled a tad weaker, a Marvel and then a Prodigy. I can stay in my comfort zone with this lineup. However, I generally like to use the OOB VG, chase the oil inside and adjust my ball speed and hand position. Doing this I generally start off playing up ten and end up playing between 15 and 20 out to 7 or 8.

i'm pretty sure the gravity shift is the pearl of the virtual gravity, and the virtual energy is the hybrid of the both of them.

How can you use such a top heavy lineup? Such early, low R.G. balls, your house shot must have massive amounts of hold.

This house puts out a decent amount of oil. Pretty much everyone uses strong equipment--Nanos, Taboo's Dark Encounter's, Hellraisers etc. for the first game or so. By the third game, if you can not change hand positions or really amp up your speed, it is time ball down because the track is gone, but there is still plenty of oil in the middle. I prefer stonger solid balls drilled weak with 4000 polish when I ball down. Works well for me although I generally end up playing tighter lines. If I am bowling well, I score better this way.
